Are the Graphics a major disappointment?

Post » Mon Jul 12, 2010 11:11 am

I love the graphics and think they are a huge step up from the gamebryo, and people you need to realize the unknown size of this game. All graphic limitations are not only with the card maximization, but the game limitations. If this game is anything like the size of oblivion, the graphics are a disappointment to me, but if this game is almost 2x the size, or just bigger for the matter of fact, i'm impressed. You guys seem too disappointed to me, but we only know a fraction of what the game has to offer, and we are yet to even see hd gameplay. I'll bet money that this game is going to fit its graphic limitations perfectly, and like i've seen bethesda do, they go all the way to the max, even with aged products *cough*Gamebryo*cough*

The Graphics are great. Those that are saying they're bad or unimpressive are either expecting too much out of the game or didn't google hard enough for the HD scans of the GI mag.

We have only seen very low-res print quality screenshots.
RESIZE them to about 50% and then you might compare to other still images of other games.

To demonstrate how ridiculous it is: resize a scan of a screenshot and compare it to a still of the video sentakai has posted in an other topic:

It's just too early to tell wich engine is "better"

I'm a whole shabang kind of guy. I'd rather see everything in motion first but so far they have met my expectations. The Oblivion screens themselves didn't do justice to the way the trees and grass sway in game when they were revealed. I want to see this deal with the snow effect.

The games Bethesda made with Gamebryo didn't look the way that they did because of the Gamebryo engine, and if this new game is properly built then the size of the game world shouldn't be a major determining factor in how nice it can look.

As for what I think about the graphics: they look pretty standard for a relatively high-profile game to me, but compared to Bethesda's past efforts they're a pretty significant improvement (not in a "this is a new game from them so it's going to look better" sort of sense, but in a "I didn't think Bethesda as a studio was capable of this" sort of sense).

The graphics are alright. They're good, but not anywhere near "next gen" good like Todd was saying. And the fact that games on the PC (and some consoles) that were released anywhere from 1-4 years ago look better than the current screenshots (Crysis, Metro 2033, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat) and that Cryengine 3 will just outright slaughter it even on console ports is kind of disappointing.

All in all, I'm hoping those screenshots were from the console version, and that the PC version will have some real eye candy with it.

Graphics are fine, I'm way more concerned about some of the other gameplay elements in the preview. It looks a lot more detailed than Oblivion, and the art direction seems a lot better, so no reason to complain, in my opinion.

graphics are fine as they are and indicates that they aren't using improved graphics as a gimmick to attract new players and leaving out other important aspects of the game.

There's about twenty screens in the new issue of Game Informer magazine of Skyrim that were seen for the most part for the first time today.

Well I have only seen grainy scanlations so I can't say for sure but from what I can see from the scanlations it looks like it's a painting of Oblivion meaning that the graphics are much better looking as the final result. Even when I do see the graphics in the magazine, they will be even better in the actual game because pictures in a magazine don't do justice compared to HD resolution video.

The one NPC with a visible face looks somewhat like a real person. So, good enough for me.

Yup, this is my hope... there is still hope for dx11!!

Can i ask why everyone is comparing it to crysis? Crysis is a objective mission based fps, while elder scrolls games are open world and free roam rpgs... Like the guy below, size sometimes doesn't matter, but for graphics, it really can make a major difference. Maybe not on pc because of the options, but for a console gamer like me it's a huge difference when comparing the capabilities of the xbox and playstation.

In the recent Gameinformer magazine issue. The graphics look good, I'm the type to value and appreciate any visuals. Heck, I still like Morrowind's.

I agree, for the time, and the size, morrowind served a great look at what was to come!

good to great for a 2011 console game

bad to outdated for a 2011 pc game

lets hope those are XBOX 360 pics ( ps3 , no geams ) and that the pc version has waaaay higher textures, poly counts, physics, dx11 and tesselation.

Nothing wrong with the graphics, they look solid. They look like something that will age well, no rough edges, quite realistic and good looking, as I expected and I'm pleased. Skyrim will still be a sandbox game too, so that's damn good graphics in that case.

^^ Oh god the animations I forgot about those. Watch they'll have never changed from Oblivion, lol.

Hopefully we'll get some better running animations this time around.
