Are the other continents relevant at all?

I've been wondering this for a while, and I wanted to know if the other continents (mainly Akavir, since Aldmeris is a dream-thing and Atmora is supposedly the same thing, or so I've heard) relevant at all in the grand scheme of things?
I mean, it seems that everything is focused on Tamriel, because of the towers and the wheel and all that, but what about Akavir? Why is it even there? Why isn't there anything important outside of Tamriel? Is there even anything comparable to Tamriel out there, civilization-wise? I read somewhere that Tosh-Raka is the Akavirian aspect of Akatosh, but why would Akatosh even care about Akavir? Also, do the Gods and Daedric princes have a presence in places outside Tamriel?

Sorry if this seems like a random hodge-podge of questions, but I'm thoroughly confused, even more so than when I was reading up on lore a few months ago.

Thanks,

We know that there was a tower on Yokuda, but that is due to the Left-Handed elves (which leaves the potential for the Maormer to have towers too).
