are the snipers planning to buff and assist team-mates

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 4:51 pm

there has been countless posts on here about snipers and sniper rifles etc. and it has got me a bit worried as to how the snipers are planning on playing brink. as we all know brink is a team based game and all the characters have the ability to buff other player in order to help them out. but the usual place for a sniper would probably be somewhere up high and far away from the action. so how are you planning to play your part in the team? will you be rushing into the action to buff you fellow team mates or will you just leave someone else to do it so you dont get killed? i feel that as you only have 8 players on your team you need all the back up you can from fellow team-mates and if you have maybe 2 snipers on your team not willing to buff there team-mates then it could become frustration for the rest of us. i personally would have liked brink to have no long range weapons so that everybody was involved at close quarters. but that's just my own opinion, and snipers are in the game so that is irrelevant dont start on at me about saying it. just tell me if i have nothing to worry about and that you snipers will be doing your bit like everybody else buffing team-mates and assisting them.

Well, I'm running an operative with a barret rifle and revolver. I'd have to say that I play my character based on my class, not my weapon loadout. So, I'll use sniping as a means to an end. I might climb up high, use the rifle to cover my team and thin out the ranks, then jump down, Comms Hack, disguise, and slip past the thinned out enemy line to their command post.

I have rarely seen any long rifles in action. And when I do see them they are generally pretty close to the action, since all the maps are pretty close in anyways. The most long rifles I've seen in game was 2 and that was one on each team.

Personally, if i play a sniper at some point, i will try and play him as i did in Global Agenda.
Pick off injured targets, soften up big ones, take down turrets from afar etc. etc.

It is a Team Game, EVERY class is a support class.

Play them accordingly and it is fun, play them TDM like and you will get bored fast from losing most matches. Same for every Class based, objective based Team shooter.

Personally, i loved Shadowrun, Global Agenda and early TF2. So i have high hopes i will enjoy this one as well :)

i will stick my head out and say that i bet they will do like they do on all other games. hide, shoot people occasionally and do [censored] all for the team... i hope im wrong but sniping is the scourge of online gaming for many of us. it requires zero skill and kills teamwork. at least older games like bf2 required some skill with bullet drop and rifle sway. i think COD made sniping so easy everyone seems to use that class on games.

No matter how you put it, every sniper in every game is a 'part' of the team. Although not usually interested in the mutual goal they still kill alot of people. And killing people creates opportunities for other players to advance and to secure ground. And when a sniper is skilled they will present a serious threat. Someone will usually not take the route were a skilled sniper just mowed down he's teammates, creating one route less for the enemy team to take.

Good, I hope they camp and snipe. I'll be the one mixing it up, completing my objectives, and getting best operative. Can't hack the objective if you're hiding way up there.

That's true, but that kind of sniper wouldn't be as much of an asset as somebody who eventually gets up off his butt and gets something done.

Played all day, didnt see a single player using a sniper rifle. I picked one up in a loadout and i see why. By the time you line a shot on someone, they already dumped a clip into you and downed you. Finally a game where snipers have zero edge over anyone.

its been the case for me so far, if you hate sniper spam and camping kiddies, then you will love this game. You can have one team member hold back a little and spot any campers for the team, and i have yet to see a sniper rifle one shot anyone so far! Thank god someone pretty much took the sniper out the game for once!

Sniping:

Great on Defense, Fairly useless on 99% of Attacking objectives.

I feel that sums up my thoughts nicely.

Idk what you guys are talking about. The rifles in this game are amazing. They aren't overpowered and your not gonna go on a killing frenzy with them.

Every game i've been in i've had one of the rifles equipped. They are definitely a support weapon though and you have to have good aim.

In the next couple days i'll upload a rifle vid and you'll see what I mean. Been wrecking [censored] with it.

I'm also going to be sniping, and I'm going to be Operative when I do.

As Operative, your best team buff is the Hack Comms ability.

Pick off an isolated enemy and use them to give your team radar for a few seconds. If you're good, you'll know roughly where the enemies are as they approach a primary objective your team is defending, and you'll be able to give them early warning that a major push for the objective is coming. I'd call that a useful advantage.

Im running around right now with a Carb-9 as my primary, and the Long rifle as my secondary. I play as a medic also... My main role is support, i buff health and resurrect people more than anything... close quarters i use my carb-9... and if we get in a situation where a long hallway or open area is where the battle is, the rifle comes out... my class comes before my weapons.

Yeah, I find that I use my revolver more than my rifle, almost like my rifle is secondary. I still love using it, though. I'll agree with the fact that it doesn't seem overpowered at all. Great support for a firefight, good for picking off single targets, but if you camp all day you'll be less and less effective unless you start capturing command posts.

I like playing a engineering sniper or medic sniper. A sniper in Brink isn't a long distance killer. Just a longer distance killer. But Brink sniping seems pretty well balanced, you really need to buff a rifle to get that kill though.

from my experience with the two Long Rifles, i have figured Soldiers and Engineer make the best 'Snipers' so long as you realize that as a Brink Sniper you are supposed to focus on the team, not getting as many kills as possible. Long Rifle are actually pretty damn accuracte without using a scope. That little dot is just about perfect, but only someone with skill can score a hit on a moving target. The Barnett bolt-action is best, as it only takes 2 hits regardless of body type. Barnett is very useful for making attackers think twice about doing the objective, even if you don't kill them, they will be easier for your team to kill. The Drognav is really weak compared to the Barnett, although with Rapid Fire, it makes a better 'battle rifle' than the semi-auto AR (Rokstedi, i beleive?)
Engineer is probably best with the Barnett, and the Soldier is better with the Drognav. That is my opinion anyway.
