Are there any mods that use 'Improved anim support from MCP?

Post » Sat May 28, 2016 10:10 am

Hello,

I would like to ask if there are any mods that use 'Improved animation support' feature of Morrowind Code Patch. The reason I'm asking this is because most player animation mods say in readme they are not compatible with this feature. However I have never seen a mod that would actually require this feature. So perhaps a better question would be whether there is any reason to actually install this feature in MCP?

Hmm... I could be wrong though, but doesn't Oblivion spell casting style for Morrowind use the MCP 'improved animation support' patch.

I checked Nexus and the only mod I found was http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/44004/ mod that probably use the MCP 'improved animation support' patch.

Thanks for looking around :) Oblivion spell casting does not use this feature, it uses MWSE and MWE and the only thing it does is that it allows casting with weapon, which MCP now offers by itself.

Yeah, I knew there was one around. But besides this one I do not think I have seen any.

You're welcome. :)

Oh, I was wrong then. Anyway, it's good to know what a certain mod(s) is using or not using. :P

I didn't know there were a mod around, but I think it's time some modders started to use the MCP 'improved animation support' patch in mods more often instead of relying of LizTail's Animation Kit. Which is old and not being updated for a long time.

I think that Anim Kit and Improved anim support are quite different things. Improved animation support allows usage of some new bones AFAIK. And latest update of Improved anim support also allows to play custom animations on player (custom like completely new, not new running etc.), but player have to have them assigned, which is extremely impractical, almost unusable for regular mods, since every time player picks different race the animations will not work. Anim Kit is more of a tool to split and merge animation files. The only time you need them is if you want to use several improved animation mods, like new walking anims plus new casting anims, where each is from different mod.

I guess you're right and what you said is something I had no clue about, which show how much I know about modding in general.

However, over the years I got the impression that the Animation Kit and the 'improved animation support' patch doesn't work well together when using both in mods. Correct?

The animation feature from MCP usually will work fine with most animation mods. "Animation Compilation" for example works fine on my end.

I don't know of any mods (other than Illy's) that use the MCP feature. That's not to say there won't be any in the future though. Commonly requested stuff like sitting in chairs should be doable now, so it's only a matter of time until someone makes such a mod.

Well, there is a bug about toe bones that I believe is somehow related to AnimKit. It might also be related to Improved anim support.

I do not think so unless the Improved anim support feature gets new update because of the problem I mentioned earlier.
