Are there enough materials to max out all settlements?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 9:29 am

So for my "master playthrough" where I go about collecting everything there is to collect like bobbleheads, magazines, games, etc, I also want to build each settlement to where I reach the limit.

My main hub is Sanctuary and while I've scrapped everything there is to scrap, and build to my hearts content, my materials seem to be diminishing all while the limit bar is only 75% full. I've had to scrap materials from other settlements to aid building in another.

So even though I can buy materials, in the end that'll take forever to accumulate and lots of caps. So do you think it's possible to build and reach the item building limit for each settlement?

I have more caps than I can possibly spent with the water purifier, buy a trader station, and a bunch of traders hang around selling me more materials than I could find myself. No, it wouldn't be enough for all settlements, unless you limit the number of settlers to very few.

Ofcourse no problem at all(will take a lot of time and might require you to clear same respawned locations multiple times but the amount of building materials is limitless)

Oh sorry misread a bit, by scraping only stuff found in settlement areas no not even close, you will need to gather materials yourself outside of settlment areas.

Scrap items respawn, eventually. So, yes it is possible. But it will take a long time.

Thankfully, junk items and what respawn in a lot of places on top of enemies with the exception of unique items and what.

I call going back to said places "Shopping".

You will find there is never a lack of places to return to for the sweet sweet scrap.

Yep, sure is as long as you can get the caps to buy the crap you need to build.

One way to lower the settlement size bar is drop weapons on the ground, go into build mode, then store the weapons in the workbench. Grab the weapons from the workbench and repeat...

The size limit is there to basically prevent you from having too many objects which can lower performance if there is an excessive amount of building objects. Not much of a concern for desktop PCs since you always install a more powerful CPU to handle the extra objects.

My main concern is that I build everything from wood and from scrapping everything I could from Sanctuary and the Drive through, I had about 2000 wood which is all gone now and used in my "treehouse". :P

So if I were to go buy a wood shipment from Abarnathy farm, it's like 25 wood I think so accumulating thousands of pieces of wood for construction would obviously take forever. (>_<)"

Well there is more merchants that sell it(wood shipments come in 50(greygarden and abernathy farm merhcnats) and100 in Diamond city-Moe) merchants respawn every 3 ingme days i think so you can get a lot off wood that way, also bear in mind deconstructing certain items gives wood as well and last your non assigned settlers do actualy scavange a bit themselves(only basic materials if you dont build scavanging stations and assign settlers to them). So yes its defenatly possibile but its gonna take a while:)

there are not enough materials inside the settlements to max out all. You need to gather as much as you can. Some junk will actually respawn when new batches of enemies take over already cleared areas. This will happen from time to time or when you get a radiant minuteman quest. I've found probably 20 out of the 30 possible settlements and all are max size limit except for sanctuary.

Copper, crystal, fiber optics, ceramic are some of the more rare materials that you'll either need to buy shipments of...... or.... do the shipment glitch.... (look it up on youtube) before they fix that glitch.

But as long as you adventure out and collect junk, you should be able to max all settlements size limits no problem.

Now, if you do a "settlement only" playthrough, where you stay in either sanctuary or some other settlement and do nothing else... they it could be a problem.

It's possible to NEVER max out the item build limit. If you physically scrap Junk, Armor and Weapons -- drop them on the ground then go into Build mode to scrap them -- each item scrapped decreases the Number of Items Built meter. You can also scrap raw resources -- Wood, Steel, etc. -- at a 1-for-1 rate. (For example, scrapping 100 Wood = 100 Wood.) So if you have several resources stored in that local workbench that number in the hundreds/thousands, you can reduce the Built meter fast.

I picked up the scavenger or whatever it's called perk that allows me to scrap weapons and armor. At level 2 and by level 25, you probably needn't ever worry about picking up junk ever again. Combat weapons tend to come with wood and steel. Pipe-guns, ironically, do not provide wood.

Maybe I don't understand the OP but I'm at level 60 and have "minimally" built up every single settlement that I've been sent to. I give them all the beds, food, water and defense anyone could ask for however, my settlements do not have frills (that's right, no Netflix). Even doing this, I have tons of materials in my workshop and do not have one single trader station. I have done the redundant quests over and over and I am a pack rat and come back from these mini quests full of whatever is lying around. Since level 30 I have been taking less and less yet even the challenging mats such as adhesive, copper, oil..... are still in the hundreds in my inventory. Wood and steel are so plentiful I don't even bother lugging any of it around and just clear each settlement as I visit it.

Since you can perpetually gain more caps, and resources from various sources, yes.
