Are vampires animals?

Post » Wed Mar 13, 2013 4:44 pm

So I'm wandering around near Riften and I'm approached by a trio of vampires (I'm with the Dawnguard). This is not a random encounter I don't think because I know all of the random encounter points in the area and I am not near one. So, they approach me and I ready my axe for battle... but they don't attack me. So, I try talk to them and they just spout off pithy one liners. I'm like "Ooookaaaay..." and slowly walk away.

I head around the south side of Riften heading to Ivarstead and I notice the vampires are following me. They notice the guards outside Riften's south gate and attack them. They take out one of the vampires, but both end up dying. Still the vampires aren't attacking me.

After standing around for a minute, one of the vampires enters Riften, and I'm like "Oh crap, this can't be good." And follow the vampire in. After all three of us are in there (me and the two remaining vampires), they start going nuts attacking people at the market place and it starts a big ruckus, with the entire town joining in. After both of them are slain (I think, because everyone stops fighting, but I can only find one vampire corpse), everyone goes back to normal. The sad part is that Bassinius and Fastred both died in the Skirmish. They had only been in Riften a month, after eloping there from Ivarstead.

Okay, so the reason I believe that the vampires didn't attack me is because I had recently taken a trip to High Hrothgar and had acquired the Voice of the Sky ability. But that would mean they are animals, as it only affects animals, right? Is it a glitch? Who knows! But that is also the reason I didn't attack them. If it was because of the Voice of the Sky ability, I didn't want to lose it by attacking an "animal". Anyone else had this happen to them?

Weird, right? So now I guess it's not just an insult, but more of a fact, to call them filthy, bloodsvcking animals.

Exactly. Those filthy bloodsvcking animals now don't have legitimate evidence to prove that they aren't animals!

I'd love to, but I play on Xbox, and I'm not using my digital camera to film my TV. It was kind of ironically tragic to see Bassinius and Fastred lying side by side in the middle of the market place. Well, most of Fastred. Her head was on the other side of the market.

Nah, I'm not worried about the people dying. I role play so that if NPC's die, they stay dead (pending Necromancy). I just thought it was odd that Voice of the Sky would affect vampires in that way. Thought people would like to know and was wondering if anyone else had experienced it.

It was weird how two minutes after they had died a courier approached me with a letter of inheritance from each of them. That Jarl doesn't stuff around.

They aren't considered animals, but they are allied to certain animals. Perhaps that perk puts you into an allied animal faction, thus giving a disposition boost from vampires?

I too have noticed that the small cadres of vamps who are skulking about with the intent to enter towns and go nuts don't seem to attack me when I encounter them on the road.

However this was on a character with no shouts... so I don't think it has anything to do with that.

:D

Voice of the Sky does work on Vampires, but whether it's supposed to or not is another question...
