Are Werewolves Immortal?

Lycanthropy is too unknown. Stupid Hiricine and the Coven Witches for not sharing that kind of information.

But wolves live much, much shorter lives than men. Wouldn't a werewolf live a shorter life than men? Say a human life span is around 80 years. a wolf lives about 15 (not sure about that). Wouldn't that mean that a werewolf would live around 45 years, since he is half man, half wolf?

In any case I don't think werewolves live for very long. They are hunted down in wolf form and insane in human form.

Bats live shorter lives than humans, yet their supernatural counter-parts live forever. Werewolves are pretenatural as well.

Uhhh, you need to brush up on your vampires. If we were to take Bram's Dracula as the default vampire, he can transform into a bat, wolf, and mist (there may be others, but I forgot). All this says, he can transform into dark thing. He could transform into a spider likely.

Also, there have yet to be vampires that transform into anything in TES. The only mention of transformation is a type in Black Marsh that can become fog.

But vampires (if thats what you mean) are not half bats. They have as much in common with bats as with mosquitoes. Werewolves are half men, half wolves. At least that's what I understand from the lore.

Incorrect. It is Valenwood's Keerilth who turn into mist. They are the only known vampires for transforming into something. I know vampires in ES have different varities. Over one hundred clans exist in Tamriel, we only know a few of them and their powers.

Yes, but do not compare werewolves with normal wolves. They do have a a Beast inside that hungers for blood and flesh. But that does not mean werewolves live as much as normal wolves. They aren't even considered natural by "normal" standards in the Elder Scrolls universe. They are not just half men, half wolves. They are men and women with a Curse that turns them into wolves. Yet they retain some of their humanity. But they suffer from insanity and violence and mental issues. I think werewolves have prolonged lives rather than a decreased lifespan.

I still wonder what those werewolf statues are suppose to be. I know they are werewolves. Atleast they turn to werewolves when you approach them during the Ritual. Maybe they are there from the last hunt and the Werewolves were preserved there until the next hunt in the Third Era. Or maybe the werewolves sleep there until they awaken.

Damn, sounds pretty epic. Too bad they are unfrozen during the Bloodmoon and not before. But we don't know that.

I think werewolves have prolonged lives rather than a decreased lifespan.

Hopefully Skyrim will tell us more about werewolves. For now, neither of us can prove we're right. I still think that even IF they have prolonged lives/don't age, vast majority of them is killed off very quickly (propobly mostly in their human form, since naked, crazy, frenzied people don't tend to live for very long).

This brings me to another question: do werewolves retain their powers (strength, smell, hearing etc) in their human form? In daggerfall, werewolves in human form kept all their powers, while in bloodmoon they didn't (iirc). Which one do you guys think sounds more correct according to lore?

I think it has to do with the Bloodmoon Ritualistic Prophecy, but it's unlikely. In werewolf form, they have increased senses and powers and bloodlust. In human form, atleast from Daggerfall, they retain their senses and immunities to diseases. Daggerfall without a doubt is more correct toward lore. It makes more sense. Main reason that I think Bloodmoon werewolves were immune to diseases in their wolf form rather than human was because Bethesda didn't want to risk the PC of not catching Corprus, as it is a part of the Main Quest. Some people could decide to do Bloodmoon before the Main Quest and not contract the Corprus diseases. Of course, in that case, they could cure Lycanthropy, but some people would not want to cure it.

I think that in human form werewolves lose most of their strength and speed (though they are still stronger/faster than normal people), but keep their supernatural senses. I really didn't like that in Daggerfall we always had increased stats, felt like cheating.

Gosh, I really hope that there will be werewolves in Skyrim...

They are definetly stronger in their wolf form. And you are correct, they retain their supernatural aspect in human form as well. I hope so too, with proper gameplay modified from Daggerfall.

Heightened senses of smell (prey detection) and strength, speed & endurance are typically retained (though at lower levels) with the werewolf in human form, and should be...Though blood-lust and madness can certainly become a factor for those werewolves who lose their connections with reality and humanity...

True, to a point. Although werewolves in human form are still people, they lose their humanity and become rather violent and moody, suffering from mental disturbances.

Oh yes, somewhat like that. Generally moody and aggressive, with a lack of clear mentality. It's in lore for real life folklore and gameplay.

What books have you read in relation to lycanthropy?
