Are you an active modder?

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2011 10:24 am

I've seen quite a lot of activity in the 'Show us what you are working on thread' but have been unable to keep track of what's going on. I thought it might be interesting to do a census of the Morrowind modding community to see how many are actually actively modding right now or how many might be wanting to mod next year.

Likely I haven't covered all the areas one can mod but I've left a something else response as a catch all. I decided to let those who are not modding add to the poll as it could be interesting to see how many forum goers are modders vs. watchers.

If you are active in the forums but not actively modding - there are some multiple choice options as to why you regularly turn up.

Of course this poll only touches this forum and doesn't include the many who use other forums such as GHF or PES or modders who for whatever reason are no longer able to post here but still mod away.

I guess I ticked a lot of boxes, but I'm a bit up to my ears in modding projects. I have been working on a total conversion for a very long time. I'm also trying to finish an update for my Scout's Refuge mod, and I'm working on a modder's resource I call the "Junk Yard" - a collection of broken and/or obviously used items. I think I'm about done with that last one for a while... as soon as I get the next release done, I plan to drop it for a while and work on the TC.

I think this poll is kind of a neat idea... there are some people here who are famous and regularly release works of art, and some like me who rarely release anything, but spend a lot of time modding anyway. It's kind of nice to see who's out there.

Well, my primary project with modding, happens to be with SmartMerger. Expect good things.

I'm also working on a few scripts, one of which is a stat burning mod letting you go over 100 on stats and skills and levels.
I had a mod for making soulgems rechargeable, however not only did i accidentally delete it but the added script forces all gems (empty and otherwise) to be individual, which turned the whole idea off for me. I will likely rebuild it and release it as a modder's resource another day.

I plan on helping with Deep Sea (TC) when the day walker has more done so i can work on level design.

EDIT: Also to note, I'm willing to help with other projects (TC and otherwise). PM me if you are looking for help.

sorta having a break from modding, cause all my mods svck.
+ it's summer so computer time is rare :(
+ Playing MW now.. not just modding it.

i'll probably mod again later this year, but atm i'm just doing small things that'll never really see the light of day.

i honestly doubt i'll still be modding in 2011, nearly made all the crappy mods i've wanted to. all a disaster, might aswell quit while i'm ahead :P

but it's still great to come on here and see what people are working on, and...er... flaming people.

Never released anything before (they usually end up getting dropped before being finished and then lost), but I am constantly messing with the CS. Currently working on an orc companion to drag around. I probably will be still modding in 2011.

I haven't released any mods solely on my own (although I have lots of personal projects that usually get abandoned about halfway through, including a couple of pretty cool Telvanni Pocket Realm ideas), but I enjoy working on a large modding team, due to the much larger scope possible for projects. Hopefully I'll be around for a lot of the upcoming TR releases ^.^

I'm working on a TC, and a big part of that has been learning what I can about NIF files (what we can do in NIFSkope for example) and my next step is to turn to blender for working on new meshes. I did not tick the animation box (probably should have) but ultimately I will eventually get into this as well. My current area that I am working on is a landmass and I decided to keep a document of successful methods I use for future modders to use (guess that might qualify for a tutorial, too... aw shoot...here I am mucking up the poll)

I am thinking of making a small release that is totally unrelated to the TC, and this might give everyone a chance to see what I can do since I'm kinda new here.

i'm a (new) active modder. i'm working on scripts/quests/something else. the something else, as my sig suggests, is an overhaul of the faction system, mainly focusing on adding functionality to being the leader of any given faction.

i also check new releases and ask for/provide help. tested the waters of general discussion a bit.

I have a couple quest mods.
A few new faction mods are in the design phase.
I have a few stat tweak mods (armor value, dmg value etc).
And I have a few mod "compilations", in which I've collected a few good meshes/textures from several different mods.
Oh and ofc, several house mods for my own use.

None of this is released, and it probably won't ever be.

I mod Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but not Morrowind. Which is funny because Morrowind is my favourite amongst those games. I still check this forum to talk to people and to keep up to date with the latest mods. :)

i would call myself a modder because i do much for myself. I tweak textures and build in some stuff. most is unofficial, nothing just to publish.

but i am a translator for english mods to go with the german version which needs knowledge in modding. this (after permission of course) is published in german communities. so i stay here and keep myself in touch with these genuises here to have a look which mod could be a good one to translate and publish. :)

Unfortunately I have modder's disease. :whistling:

I'm an active TR modder as well as doing numerous personal projects. I have a couple of mods published. Nothing fantastic, but I'm proud of the few I've released. I'm currently trying to learn to model, but it's a slow process for me. :) I've been modding for more than six years, but I've only gone public in the last two years or so. I honestly don't think I'll ever stop modding. Even if the community dries up and blows away, I'll still be modding until I can't find a machine that can run morrowind. :hubbahubba:

I've been working on my Ravenwood Island project for years. It's a monster landmass, and I'll probably be working on it for years to come. However, I'm determined to finish it, come hell or high water.

Along the way, I've created numerous "sub mods" that I'm preparing to release - but my masterpiece is still a WIP.

While I've been playing Morrowind for so very long, it is only in the past ten or so months that I've considered myself a modder having finally had the drive to learn scripting and create Elemental Magicka. It isn't perfect, but I'm pleased with the result.

I've taken a bit of a break from working in the CS but I've been doing some work on paper in preparation for a new quest mod that I really want to develop. I also check these forums fanatically to ensure I don't miss out on anything new that is released!

I started my first mod - a house mod - about 2 years ago but had to drop it after a few months through lack of time. I've continually put off picking it up again because of the need to re-learn everything. But I've decided it must be finished, or at least a first version. I thought of offering it to the community because I think it's pretty good (of course) but have had some more ideas I want to incorporate. So I'm getting back into it. I'm slow though, so I'm sure it'll go well into next year.

I am an active modder. my latest was releasing alaisiagae's morag tong armor resource as a functioning ingame mod. and i am working on a very large island called spectral isle from an island made for me by sgmonkey. and i am on the DOHR team. plus i need to finish a couple of other mods i have almost done. but next i will probably do the request of making all the ingame ships unique. as i have a penchant for making the game more varied that way. so i am going to be modding for quite some time

Lots of dabbling since I got the game (when it came out) but didn't actively start modding with the intent to release till recently. I have a long term texture replacement project that is quite ...different (that's my baby) , and am working revamps of two old mods to teach myself the fundamentals.

Lots of interesting replies within just 24 hrs there have been 29 who posted they are still actively modding

I hope the poll stays active for a couple of weeks to see if that number increases by much or whether it stays the same - which would show the active modders are also active forum goers - perhaps dropping by daily :)

I thought that was a cool reply - and wondered if you had moved onto mod the later games because those you began modding with have also moved onto those games? I see lots of former MW modders in the other forums - Emma, Korana , Throttlekitty come to mind but I know there are many more

Oh, I wish had included an option for translation - I think that provides an awesome service for other gamers.

I think you win the prize for the most screenshots of a mod not yet released :) But I know that feeling of gritting your teeth and saying "I am going to finish what I have started"

I mod a lot more than I play the game. I never did make it past giving Caius the package before I started poking around with the CS. I can't seem to keep my paws of it now. I've started modding everything because of it, even games that are nigh impossible such as Spore.

I'm primarily a scripter but I do texture work occasionally and even made a couple of new head meshes for a custom race of mine (that I desperately need to finish). I'm not very good at modeling, honestly. I tried my hand at animations once but I never quite got the hang of Blender so they didn't turn out. I stick mostly to what I know I can do: scripts, gameplay adjustments and the occasional texture. I mostly mod for myself and only rarely release something.

Yes, I mod. Actively. But I don't release things as often as I make new stuff.

As to what I do - I don't actually make new meshes and textures, I just play mix-and-match with the Bethesda-made stuff - synthesizing, if you want to get fancy about it.

I'll probably still be modding in 2011.
