Are you all aware of this?

Post » Fri Aug 20, 2010 1:22 pm

its good to have new things, I don't think any one is contesting completely new additions to the game. but it some times seems as though they take things out just to take them out and make the game different. sort of like tearing out the foundation of the house to reshingle the roof.

It's well known that Bethesda tries to make each game independent. They try new things with each and every game they do, and then learn from that for use in future games as well.

Apparently Beth, and they made them great as far as I can see :)

(yes, but don't mind the duel-wielding, spell combining, sprinting, 280 perks, huge mountains, a whole new level of RAI, a carriage system, a better combat system, better menues, detailed environment, better graphics, lots of new creatures, weather dynamic, wind effect water, 3D view of every object, solving riddles, traps, 130+ unique hand made dungeons + a whole hand made world and... you get my point)

Those two are yet to be seen. Personally, after reading about the menu system, I cringe when I think about it on my platform of choice.

I've yet to see anyone saying "OMG they added Dragons? Skyrim is Doomed!" come on, I don't think anyone is that far gone. I haven't complained about anything -added- not perks not dual wielding not Skyrim not wraiths, not what seems to be better Rai this time around, not children, not Alduin's lore nothing. not a tinge...its the things being taken out and not being changed and improved that irk me

Alright check this out

I already showed where my response under the qoutation of the list where my response was directed to you.

My response was designed as such because from your -edits- you seem to dismiss peoples concerns as cited by -Laughing- and that these concerns have no confirmations beyond people worrying about them, that was directed to you, my statements IN the qoutation were a result also to you saying that these concerns where born of the forumers and as such (not stated by you after this) had no basis to be a concern was also directed to -you- regardless or not you have a problem with them -I- did not say you have a problem with them -I- was saying why they are problems and not just the false statements of Doomsayers....alright? am i clearer now.

yes what was the point? to point out peoples fears? and in pointing them out insinuate its just baseless crying? are not neccesarily true and are from people who've been around on the forums - was what I was responding to, not that you cared or not.

Aaaand again, that's your OWN interpretation, which I have no idea why you would like to search for the bad approach and interpret it like that when I... again... CLEARLY stated that I was laughing at the AMOUNT, and pointed out that it was NOTHING else (so... yeah, live with it).

And yes, this concerns are born from the members of this forum because only people can create concerns, logic.

As for the statement I did not make of all those concerns having no basis: Again, your own interpretation, and completely not true.

As for the point of this thread and the quotation you gave of me: Ofcourse I will write it down because I can't take concerns as facts, as the topic creator I should be as objective as possible and thus I must include this sentence in it. You, and no one else around this forum, can't say if all the concerns listed are necessarily true. It's very much logical I would post such a thing.

The point of this thread is dependent on the person. Some will see it as "I am not alone with my concerns around here, and I see that it's not such a big deal now.", some will see this thread as a thread to cool everybody down from the thousand concerns we produce each day before even trying the game, and so on, and so on. This thread is in no means a thread created to laugh at people, or to say that their fears are baseless. YOU chose to interpret this thread like that, so deal with it quietly instead of creating flaming around.

/discussion. Now let's get back to the topic, if you wish to continue this conversation PM me, it's better.

yeah I know, and I guess thats just where I have a complete idealistic difference, I think that features that work should be improved with each new title rather than swaped for a feature that is new (while introducing completely new features that get placed in a part of the game that wasn't already occupied), but not necessarily better or just slightly better than what could have been leaps and bounds better if they were less concerned that every game have its own identity from the previous games.

I agree it's very much subjective. For me, hearing about the menus, I liked it.

And those two cents I greet with open arms. I'll respond to them too.

I remember seeing a couple of threads (or posts) complaining about the fact that dragons are a bad and cliche concept and shouldn't be introduced in TES, I think you can find some in the search option, dunno though, haven't tried myself.

I attribute such posts to ignorance as Dragons are mentioned clearly in the Lore, I think there is a boundary between Cliche, and semantics of what point does it serve to say something like Dragons are Cliche...when they are everywhere...even in Human history?

I believe you would find more success and less chances for gripe if you allocated everything that was -added- to Skyrim apart from previous series

I agree, I personally don't think dragons are cliche at all. I actually think it's about time they will be introduced to TES. Like someone else said already in this thread, it can clarify us a lot of holes in the lore and things we didn't know that were a mystery.

Apparently Beth, and they made them great as far as I can see :)

(yes, but don't mind the
duel-wielding - ok new in the series
spell combining - no better than spellmaking
sprinting -rpg irrelevant
280 perks - that cannot compensate for the loss of skills and attributes
huge mountains -rpg irrelevant
a whole new level of RAI -i will comment after i see it
a carriage system -rpg irrelevant
a better combat system - this remains to be seen although i doubt it will be better than in mount&blade ...an indy game
better menues -you mean not made with consoles in mind? rpg irrelevant also better isn't an addition
detailed environment - as detailed as moded OB ? not impressive , rpg irrelevant and not an addition
better graphics - better than what , 5 years older games?
lots of new creatures - like dragons
weather dynamic - rpg irrelevant
wind effect water -rpg irrelevant
3D view of every object -rpg irrelevant
solving riddles - like breath the waters ? not an addition
traps - as in OB , not an addition
130+ unique hand made dungeons -not an addition , all rpgs have dungeons
a whole hand made world - like in MW , not an addition

you get my point

(yes, but don't mind the
duel-wielding - ok new in the series
spell combining - no better than spellmaking The two are unrelated to each other, you can't compare.
sprinting -rpg irrelevant So is duel wielding, ES is an Action-RP game.
280 perks - that cannot compensate for the loss of skills and attributes There is no loss of attributes, they still exist (and are you complaining about 3 skills removed?)
huge mountains -rpg irrelevant Please explain why.
a whole new level of RAI -i will comment after i see it It's your full right to be skeptical.
a carriage system -rpg irrelevant Are you just making it up when you see you have nothing to comment about it?
a better combat system - this remains to be seen although i doubt it will be better than in mount&blade ...an indy game Only time will tell.
better menues -you mean not made with consoles in mind? rpg irrelevant also better isn't an addition Yes it is. According to the new features they've added to them.
detailed environment - as detailed as moded OB ? not impressive , rpg irrelevant and not an addition If detailed environment is RP irrelevant, then please tell me what is? (and it's a VERY LARGE addition to the game)
better graphics - better than what , 5 years older games? Yes.
lots of new creatures - like dragons Yes.
weather dynamic - rpg irrelevant Not true.
wind effect water -rpg irrelevant Not true.
3D view of every object -rpg irrelevant Not true.
solving riddles - like breath the waters ? not an addition Not true.
traps - as in OB , not an addition Not true.
130+ unique hand made dungeons -not an addition , all rpgs have dungeons Not true. AND, it's an addition compared to OB.
a whole hand made world - like in MW , not an addition I'll give you that.

Todd never lied about RAI in Oblivion. People in this forum just started basically making up their own interpretations of what he said. Two different things.

Pretty much. Todd wanted RAI to work like it did in that first vid thats always posted. But it resulted in everyone dying. Apparently its fixed, or reworked in Skyrim. Its a good system, but plays into the whole quest marker conundrum. If you have truly radiant AI, your going to have to ask everyone where everybody else is, or just not have quest markers. Some like this, some dont, but it doesnt seem to be the way Beth is going with Skyrim.

Although I think QM have been confirmed?

Sorry, but that's nonsense. The 'RAI' in the video is clearly scripted/scheduled from beginning to end. He says 'she decides to do this, then she decides to do that'. Which she doesn't. She has clearly set AI packages and scripts that tell her what to do next. So unless a 'fire bow at target' AI package, then an evaluate package script command to pick the next package counts as a decision this video showed something that never existed. While it was not directly a lie it tricked people into believing the AI would be far better than it really was. The 'mass murder AI' myth is something I don't believe in either. There is certainly a problem with people killing each other if they start to steal things, but it can't be an excuse for all the awesome stuff they showed in the video(s) that for some strange reason didn't make it into the game (because, as we know now, they were scripted/set up).

But whatever, Oblivion is Oblivion and I hope (and expect that) Skyrim will have better AI.

I'm not losing any sleep over the OPs list, I'm sure Skyrim will be a pretty amazing adventure when it's finished.

One thing did concern me when it was mentioned somewhere, that was "Auto Looting". I just hope there's an option to disable it... permanently.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I don't share any of these concerns, for the people who misunderstood. This thread points out a list of problems that some people share concern with about Skyrim.
Besides that, some of the things that are mentioned on the list are not necessarily true and are only concerns forum members pointed out over the time spent around this forum.

I decided to check how many things that bother us there are before the game even got out yet xD

So, here it is, hopefully it won't create any flaming wars or something like this... This thread is for all to notice the fact that we have this many problems with the game and it hasn't gotten out yet xD which is hilariously funny, at least for me.

  • People are worried about the possibility of no spellmaking.
  • People are worried about the removal of attributes (everything they did is still in the game, only in a different form of perks/skills/etc).
  • People are worried about the removal of Athletics and Acrobatics, as well as Mysticism. Mysticism's spells gone to other magic schools and still exist.
  • People are worried about the concept of dragons.
  • People are worried about that there might be a simple and fan oriented storyline that includes no depth - Also, was the concern of some.
  • People are worried about having too many dragons(?).
  • People are worried about fast travel - adding Morrowind like options or the "Don't like it don't use it argument".
  • People are worried about having quest markers and quest compass.
  • People are worried about the removal of Birthsigns (it's most likely they are now the perk trees you see when looking towards the sky)
  • People are worried about possibly not seeing your legs or upper torso.
  • People are worried about not having enough choices and consequences in quests and thus, limiting your "Freedom" as a character.
  • People are worried about that the combat system might be - slash, slash, slash, block, finishing move, similar to Oblivion's combat system only with a finishing move.
  • People are worried about that the PC version was downgraded due to consoles capabilities.
  • People are worried about the removal of classes, now specializing according to what you do and not according to what you choose at the beginning of the game.
  • People are worried about low resolution textures (spotted in the trailer).
  • People are worried about the possibly not being able to climb mountains.
  • People are worried about not being able to block if you are equipped with a spell and a weapon.
  • People are worried about the lack of spears.
  • People are worried about no-good looking waters in Skyrim due to the water we've seen in the trailer (I personally think they look good).
  • People are worried about how powerful magnetism will be.
  • People are worried about that dragons might be the "New Oblivion gates" or possibly the new Cliffracers.
  • People are worried about that Skyrim will have less role playing options.
  • People are worried about not having separate armor slots. Having a system similar to Fallout 3.
  • People are worried about dragons being too easy and lame or too hard and exhausting.
  • There exists suspicions of the trailer's dragon fight being scripted.
  • There are fears of Todd giving misleading information about RAI and the rest of the game, which will not be included in the game after its release (similar to what happened with RAI in Oblivion).
  • People are worried about not having mounts.
  • People are worried about being limited due to children being invincible (which will not be discussed in this thread... WARNING)
  • People are worried about level scaling, and what it will be like now (and if it'll really be like Fallout's 3 system).
  • People are worried about not having open cities.
  • People are worried about Skyrim being about the same size as Oblivion.
  • People are worried about no levitation.
  • The most important concern out here: People are worried that there's a small chance M'aiq the liar will not be in Skyrim!

So, yeah, just wanted all of you to be aware of this xD I'm actually giggling right now a little... Anyway, if you can think of more problems mentioned that I didn't put on the list, you might as well post them and I'll add them to this "Official problems with Skyrim list" of mine.

EDIT: The game hasn't even released yet! xD

IMPORTANT NOTE: I don't have a problem with even one of the above :) Just mentioning the problems that occurred around this forum.
For those of you who didn't understand, I am laughing at the amount of problems we (as the community) have with the game, not about the problems with it or that we even have problems with it.

well that a big list have to say onley a few of then concern me these are a follows
People are worried about that there might be a simple and fan oriented storyline that includes no depth (this has been the fait or other games like CoD and Tomb Rader)
People are worried about dragons being too easy and lame or too hard and exhausting
People are worried about that dragons might be the "New Oblivion gates" or possibly the new Cliffracers
thats about it one thing that I do need to coment on is this comment:
There exists suspicions of the trailer's dragon fight being scripted. of course it was scripted it's a promo used to promote the game It uses the gam engen but that figt is scripted but i think the one's that we fight will have AI and possably be a littel more vilent anwill NOT be scripted

I have concerns about the removal of attributes (but I'll wait to see the game before), possible removal of spellmaking and that magnetism thing. I don't know if we know yet, but I hope it won't be some sort of auto-aim. I can aim myself.

Sad about spears, but I'm used to it since Oblivion. For the rest, Skyrim should be great.

You just opened up a nasty, nasty can of worms. For the record, not a single one of those do I have a problem with.

Skyrim is not going to please everyone - it can't. The same level of excitement and discussion preceded the release of Oblivion, only for this forum to be flooded with complaints of 'it hasn't got crossbows, spears, orangutans, ice-cream, etc.' just minutes after its launch.

I have no doubt that it will have tons of cool features to outweigh whatever flaws it has. The only one I'm really concerned about is the level scaling, which I felt was the biggest fundamental flaw of Oblivion and shattered the illusion instantly. Pretty much everything else can be ironed out with mods.

Oblivion's "RAI" was not highly publicized, it was for a new system, they didn't have enough time to get it working properly so they had to introduce it in a very limited for. As for Skyrim it's highly publicized and Todd has stated that they've greatly advanced in making it work, also that it will be available for mods in the construction kit, so you'll actually be able to play with it yourself.

As I recall, RAI was highly publicized. Here is a paragraph from Oblivion's October, 2004 press release:
Oblivion features a groundbreaking new AI system, called Radiant AI, which gives non-player characters (NPCs) the ability to make their own choices based on the world around them. They'll decide where to eat or who to talk to and what they'll say. They'll sleep, go to church, and even steal items, all based on their individual characteristics. Full facial animations and lip-synching, combined with full speech for all dialog, allows NPCs to come to life like never before.

I think RAI was discussed in many of the subsequent interviews and previews, and was one of the featured features at E3. When Oblivion was released, RAI was there as publicized. Maybe not everything it could do in the development lab was much publicized, but what it actually does in the game was.

RAI was one of the features most publisized about Oblivion. It was said that NPCs could do (or had the potential to do) a lot in the game, including hunt, steal or buy food from stores etc.

This time it's definately in, Bethesda has had 5 years to work on this feature among other features, and I think this time they'll do it right.

Well there is twist lie Todd to us as game producer or show thats AI enhanced by scripts can be really interesting, its something like different view on one historical event like mystery of Nerevar death what is different for ashlanders and Tribunal.

RAI have some nice potential, but such potential must be enhanced by scripts and tweaks of variables what was almost not done by devs but was achieved by modders,
RAI as feature is good by self but was implemented in flawed way perhaps now it will be much more improved since flawed AI along with leveling and UI one of first flaws what was criticized in Oblivion.
We can remain skeptical until play game, but hope now somewhere is fortified by knowing thats devs at last will try to fix flaws.

I'd be surprised if it's not in. I mean, the AI has developed a lot under these 5 years. Look at other RPGs and you'll see they got really good AI. RDR has really nice one and Witcher 2 got great as well.
So far, looks like Skyrim will join the group.

Interesting/funny thing:
I heard before that the reason the RAI was a bit "stripped down" in Oblivion was because the NPCs did too much. They bought up everything in the stores so when the player eventually wanted to buy him/herself, there was nothing left!
