Are you all aware of this?

Post » Fri Aug 20, 2010 9:19 am

I don't know about that. Im sure after releasing Oblivion, after they got their feedback about level scaling, that they weren't prepared for what they had done. If they had known how terrible it would be I think they would have fixed it...

we still have not heard any thing in regards to level scaling, but we might beable to intepret FO3's level system to be a response to that.

but in regards to the things in this list, I am sure they were aware that not every one would be happy about the changes.

I fail to see the point of this thread. But if you could send this list to one of the dev somehow, now that's at least something. With making this thread right here, it might eventually came to the attention of the devs too of course, but the inevitable [censored]storm it likely to stir up doesn't worth it. Just grumpy faces all around from both sides of the opinions in the end.

There'd be reason to bother the devs with this mass of ignorance the majority of which has been addressed by bethesda and can be easily found,

Bethesda tries new things and if something doesn't work they fix it, that makes their games better and better with each game.

Point is we can't assume they know exactly what they are doing. They make mistakes just as any of us. Assuming that everything that they do is exactly as they want it is just wrong

Or maybe it was exactly as they wanted it, but what they wanted was just a terrible idea.

Eh, ok I'll bite.

  • Lack of spellmaking is not confirmed, just that its being looked at. The new combineable spells and different spell modes feature is the most likely technical difficulty.
  • Likely a nonissue, depending on the quality of the perk system. Agreed that there's a whole lot of (probably unnecessary) fuss about it.
  • You mean people will miss having to make like a kangaroo all over the landscape the whole time?
  • Being that this is a TES game, you might be able to avoid most dealings with dragons by just not doing the main quest. The dragon encounter near the start might be mandatory tho.
  • Its possible I suppose. Given that even BGS has criticised how Oblivion worked out depth-wise, I think this worry is premature.
  • See 4.
  • Meh.
  • Double meh. Might be able to disable them.
  • The possible removal of boring stat increasers and once-per-day spells that hardly ever got used. FTFY
  • I'm sure you can see them in third person. Can't think of why they're needed in first unless you play a female character that wants to look at her chest.
  • Present in all CRPGs to some extent. Whether its annoyingly intrusive or not is individual.
  • Possibly. Thats a risk of making combat less about dice rolls and more about player reflexes. Hopefully the difficulty slider will affect opponent AI intelligence in a useful way.
  • Kinda. It still looks pretty gorgeous, so I'm not too worried as long as we get the higher res textures.
  • Triple meh. I've done the custom class thing with every single character since the release of Daggerfall, because the builtin classes were mostly not that great.
  • Where? Wasn't the trailer based on the console version, which we expect to have lower-res textures?
  • Not confirmed anywhere to my knowledge, nor even evidence to suggest anything one way or the other.
  • This would for sure bug all the three-armed players out there. BGS should get right on that. =P
  • I like spears too, but this plus crossbows sounds a lot like the sort of thing that BGS would put in a DLC, just sayin'.
  • Water looks fine to me, people just look for reasons to complain about stuff.
  • Lack of this feature made companions more trouble than they were worth in earlier games. It could be annoying but there's no reason to think it will be.
  • Might be the new Oblivion gates, but if so just rush through the part of the main quest chain that puts them all over.
  • "Role playing options" is a rather broad term. I expect some things to be more limited and others to be less limited than in previous games. Doubt it will be that bad.
  • I agree with this one. As a dabbler in modding, there were never enough slots, leading to people having to use a ring or tail slot if they wanted a head item that didn't make the hair vanish.
  • THey've been described as a boss-type creature. I know of no games where bosses are everywhere. I suppose they could be lame but I have no reason to believe so.
  • Very well might be. As long as actual gameplay is even approximately as awesome, this isn't a problem.
  • Maybe. BGS isn't under the same pressures as last time so I think they deserve some benefit of the doubt from people who enjoyed Morrowind.
  • Quadruple meh. Mounts were as irritating as companions in OB thanks to their AI and lack of magnetic targeting, especially the Dark Brotherhood mount. And they maneuvered like crap. I'd rather run than ride one of those again.
  • Not correct according to Todd. They're apparently just all world-class sprinters with fantastic dodging. Meh anyway.
  • Whatever system they use won't svck enough to keep players away. Folks will adapt. It might even be awesome.
  • Annoys me a bit, but I'll adapt without complaint.
  • Bigger isn't always better, as long as content is detailed and well-integrated. Daggerfall was huge but as a result most of its content was procedurally generated.
  • Levitation would be nice, but whatever.

I continue to fail to understand how the fact that some might not share the concerns of others is held to be of any significance whatsoever. I'm not concerned about everything on that list. However I recognize that there are others who are concerned about the things about which I'm not concerned. And I sincerely couldn't care less. I am not harmed by the fact that others hold opinions I don't share.

And on a personal note, I see this thread as little more than a self-congratulatory flame-baiting.

Not having open cities.
Don't know what you mean by that.

Open cities is where, in Morrowind you just walked through Balmora, and Ald'Rhun, in Oblivion you had to go through the gate, which triggered a loading screen, to get inside any major cities.

Just from memory, I'm pretty sure they said the larger cities are not open, but there are small towns which are open (similar to Oblivion, but hopefully they made small towns actually useful lol)

No spellmaking.
[censored] no Spellmaking but it still gonna be good without it
Attributes gone but still everything they did is in the game.
I don't Really cared about that so much i think Perks is Better
The removal of Athletics and Acrobatics, as well as Mysticism. Mysticism's spells gone to other magic schools and still exist.
Athletic = The Sprint Option /Acrobatics i hope they are gonna make a Good Movement system for it/Mysticism don't Really care if it's gone and some spells moved to another School
The concept of dragons.
I like the Dragons
Simple and fan oriented storyline that includes no depth - Also, was the concern of some.
Hmm don't know if i like it
Too many dragons(?).
Hmm it's Unlimited but i don't know what to say about it
Fast travel - adding Morrowind like options or the "Don't like it don't use it argument".
Hmm don't Really care about Fast Travel
Quest markers and quest compass.
Hope they make a Option to turn Compass/Quest Markers on and off
The removal of Birthsigns (it's most likely they are now the perk trees you see when looking towards the sky)
You don't need Birthsign's at all in that game
Possibly not seeing your legs or upper torso.
I don't care about it if i wanna see it i just switch to 3rd Person
Not enough choices and consequences in quests and thus, limiting your "Freedom" as a character.
Oh Damn....
Combat system being - slash, slash, slash, block, finishing move, similar to Oblivion's combat system only with a finishing move.
I don't think it's like that...
PC version being downgraded due to consoles capabilities.
I don't Really care if PC Version is Downgraded
Removal of classes, now specializing according to what you do and not according to what you choose at the beginning of the game.
I think i Kinda like it
Low resolution textures (spotted in the trailer).
Where did you spot it ???
Possibly not being able to climb mountains.
How do you know ???
Not being able to block if you are equipped with a spell and a weapon.
Yeah that svcks but i just wanna block with my Weapon if i have a spell in other hand or nothing at all in other hand
The lack of spears.
Don't care about Spears
Worries of no-good looking waters in Skyrim due to the water we've seen in the trailer.
Water Looks good what are you talkin about ??
Worries of how powerful magnetism will be.
I am not worried of that at all
Worries that dragons will be the "New Oblivion gates" or possibly the new Cliffracers.
They won't be like Oblivion Gates and i kinda liked Cliffracers
Worries that Skyrim will have less role playing options.
It's gonna have more Role playing options than you think
Worries about not having separate armor slots. Having a system similar to Fallout 3.
Hmm i don't think i am worried about that
Dragons being too easy and lame or too hard and exhausting.
i don't want those Dragons to be too easy it's supposed to be hard
Suspicions of the trailer's dragon fight being scripted.
i don't think it's Scripted at all
Fears of Todd giving misleading information about RAI and the rest of the game, which will not be included in the game after its release (similar to what happened with RAI in Oblivion).
Umm i don't Fear that at all but he must not give misleading info..
Fears of not having mounts.
I would like Mounts but i don't fear of not having it then i just gonna walk and sprint
Being limited due to children being invincible (which will not be discussed in this thread... WARNING)
...
Level scaling, and what it will be like now (and if it'll really be like Fallout's 3 system).
I don't know what the Fallout 3 Level Scaling is i didn't play Fallout 3
Not having open cities.
I don't care about that at all because i think the Towns are just open :P
Skyrim being about the same size as Oblivion.
i think i like it being the same size but i always thought it's smaller
Possibly no levitation.
Do we Really need it at all ?

Missing the point that they aren't "problems" they're ignorance. The majority of what you've written has been addressed confirming what is and is not there. It would only take 30 minutes to 1 hr to get fully up to speed on the facts. Plus a copy of game informer.

No - you quite clearly point them out so that you can congratulate yourself for not sharing them and so that you can communicate that you're "giggling" at the thought that other people do have these concerns. It's not intended as any sort of public service or whatever the costume is that you're trying to put on it, but merely as a way to take a backhanded swipe at all the people who do have concerns and set yourself up as a member of some sort of unconcerned master race.

If you and a few others wish to sit and congratulate yourselves on how superior you are because you aren't concerned about any of the decisions made, while "giggling" at the fact that there are others who are concerned, you can do it by PM.

You "confirmed" and claimed things were not "confirmed" inaccurately, you also claim these are currently "problems" making the assumption that these are real problems. If you were just listing peoples concerns you could put "people are worried there will be no levitation and it's been confirmed that there is no levitation." "people are worried about not having attributes" "people are worried of..." ect and then accurately confirm things that are in or out. If that was your intention.

Im actually kinda worried about Skyrim. I mean, they're still looking at minor stuff like HORSES! How many games have done horses for years, and Bethesda is still messing with it? Should have nailed it in Oblivion!

Im also worried about the landscape. Shure, it is varied, but when you think about it, there wont really be any placed of landscape that we havent seen before in other games.

I don't know why all points on the list are hilarious to you. There are previews, there is a trailer and there are interviews. Enough information to like some things and dislike other things you've read or seen. Of course only the game will show how everything really works out, but why even post on this forum if all information about the game (whether you like the information given or not) is considered meaningless by you since you can't play the game yet?

And I also don't know why you have no problems with any point on the list. Do you fear to become the target of a fan-boy witch-hunt if you admit that you are concerned about a single detail of the game? You wouldn't have a problem with a lack of role-playing options, a lack of choices and consequences, lame dragon fights or some of the other points listed? I don't say any of these points will be true, it's just that I find a bit weird that some people here would probably even cheer and think it's a great idea if Bethesda told them that the game CTDs every ten minutes. 'You get much more fun out of the game if you need to reload every 10 minutes! Increases play-time!'

I have a few concerns about the game and some of them are not on the list. But since it seems this thread was made to denounce people who don't love every single detail we know about the game so far I don't see any need to write about them here.

Alright :) I'll make it clearer.

And gpstr: I laughed at the fact of how many problems we have with the game before it got out, read it carefully please. I don't want any misinterpretations.
I didn't laugh at the problems some have with the game, or the fact that there are people with problems with the game. Just laughed at the amount, that is all. I'll make it clearer.

They're redoing horses (they originally had them in skyrim) because they found them done better somewhere else and realized that in oblivion you road them like a military jeep, that was how I felt about horses in oblivion, so they're trying to make it the most natural horse ride possible, my thoughts is like Zelda would be best. Let them handle it, I highly doubt they won't have horses, but if they didn't I wouldn't mind too much.

I don't think majority of opinion and supposed opression of minority is really an issue. I doubt that this community is what drives the evolution of the game so it matters not if people are blindly accepting or very doubtful its not likely to change the game, more likly to change how the devs word their statements when doing interviews. its the internet, people giggle and rant but none of it has the gravity people here treat it with.
