Are you an avid reader?

Something I loved in Oblivion was the books. There's no telling how many hours I spent reading them in the game. I assume that they will be in Skyrim but the fact that Fallout (I know that's not necessarily a good comparison) did not have them makes me a bit concerned. Do you guys expect books to be in Skyrim? Were they in Morrowind? I never played it.

There are tons of them in Morrowind. Maybe even more then Oblivion. My favorite being Capn's Guide to the Fishy Stick :P

New books were in Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion, so I expect plenty more in Skyrim.

I believe they will definitely be in game, they've kind of become a staple of Elder Scrolls games, and I kinda want to say I've read somewhere that they've already been confirmed, but I'm not sure.

So yes, they are in Morrowind, and apparently even Daggerfall.

I wonder who's job it is to write the books. I wonder if each employee gets to write a few or if they just hire specific people to do them.

It does make sense for them to keep the one's they have from Oblivion though. Just add to the collection. Old books would still be around 200 years later.

The books add a great amount of lore, more than most movies could hope to boast

I hope they recycle books. It allows for a far larger amount... adding older books onto newer ones, that is. Daggerfall added about 90 books to the series, Morrowind (with expansions and DLC) added about 230, and Oblivion (with expansions and DLC) added about 140. They added many books for Oblivion. I agree with you, I loved reading all the books I would like to see some in old ones in Skyrim but new ones would be great, its nice to sit back and take a break and read a book. :geek:

I hope they recycle books. It allows for a far larger amount... adding older books onto newer ones, that is. Daggerfall added about 90 books to the series, Morrowind (with expansions and DLC) added about 230, and Oblivion (with expansions and DLC) added about 140. They added many books for Oblivion. If you draw a parallel between the Empire and the Roman Empire, it would seem likely that V might take place in something like the Dark Ages.

In that sense, books would of course still be in the game, but possibly rarer and more widely sought after.

It would be cool to see a small group of Nord scholars trying to maintain and copy ancient texts like the Irish Monks did.

Just a thought though.

Anyway, not including Battlespire's and Redguard's book totals, which are likely pretty small, the series already has approximately 470 books, and this isn't including letters like the Akaviri messenger's diary page or the letter in Rosethorn Hall. By adding a guess of Redguard's and Battlespire's book totals, I'd say the series has accumulated about in-game 500 books in its 14 1/2 year history of lore. I expect Skyrim to add many more, at least 80-100.

There's some weird *** in those books. Mysterious Akavir speaks of cat-folk nation in the east who used to enslave dragons and eventually succeeded in transforming themselves into tigerdragons.

It's fun to ask yourself if those things are real lore, or just fiction within the lore. :P

156 (I need to check my work) 143142 books were introduced through the last game and its expansion/DLC, and so I'm hoping Bethesda will make at least that many for Skyrim and its expansions/DLC. If they want to add about 230 as they did for Morrowind and its expansions/DLC or go even higher, I won't argue. :D

There's some weird *** in those books. Mysterious Akavir speaks of cat-folk nation in the east who used to enslave dragons and eventually succeeded in transforming themselves into tigerdragons.

It's fun to ask yourself if those things are real lore, or just fiction within the lore. :P


The fun thing about Akaviri lore is that not much is actually known, so how the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Ka_Po%27_Tun came around is truly a mystery and still being investigated within the lore. I love how the world and it's lore is progressing in real time with us as we play it all out. :hehe:

Well a little confused much happens sometimes I guess, also you are right no gfame I have come across can stack against TES in terms of story and lore it spreads generations threw the elder scrolls universe.
