Last year I bought two Radeon HD 4860's. They came together, but did not come with a Crossfire bridge. With Skyrim announced I finally decided to stop being lazy and spend a whole 10 buck to get one lol.

My reason for upgrading soon really isn't TESV, but more the lack of punch with my current rig. I'd like to see Oblivion completely maxed out one of these days, and I've a few other things that I work with that lag quite a bit (Reaper being one of them, oddly) with my build.

TESV is just a later-coming side-effect of me wanting to upgrade now.

If you already have the cards, that's one thing, but I really don't understand the point of buying two cards when you could buy one card for double the price and have it perform as well or better than the two on their own. I mean, there's a card for any pricepoint these days and for the most part the price is directly proportional to performance, so why would you bother with two half-way-there cards and hook them up with some silly flimsy dongle when you can buy one and have it be the real deal.

Ok, yeah, so i see that if you chain three top 'o the line cards together you could theoretically get this uber amazing system, but there isn't a game on the market that can't be played with a single high end video card. And if you're trying to future proof your system, it would be far more prudent to simply update to the latest and greatest every 9 or 12 months than to blow all your money at once on some delicate multi-card setup that might not be as effective after a year and a half as something brand new down the road.

Depending on how Skyrim is optimized, I might further overclock my processor, but that's about it. Rig's in the sig.
Oblivion showed no improvements until I got a faster processor. It didn't care for new graphics cards, or at least did not show as much improvement as other games did..

There are currently no games my PC cannot run on full settings. But only time will tell. The second I'll install a game my PC can't run, be it Skyrim or any other game before (or after) it is released, I'm off to the store to build a new rig.

I honestly can't afford to keep upgrading this PC. Fortunately my rig's good enough to play most new games on the highest settings. :D I can only hope Skyrim doesn't require a too-powerful system.

Q8200 @ 2.33ghz
GTX460
4GB

My only concern is the processor. If needed, I'll find a way to overclock it. :D

My awesome ASUS gaming laptop can bring Crysis to it's knees and make it beg for mercy, so I'm good.

What Laptop have you got, been looking at upgrading, Alienware MX's look nice what you got to compare to to them? Could play Skyrim on a new Laptop too :)

The thought of doing high performance gaming on a laptop still makes me shudder. Am I just old fashioned?

No, of course not.

It did factor in, though. £300 for a machine that'll run every existing game at high settings at my native resolution of 1680x1050.

I built my current rig for Oblivion (with only very minor upgrades since), and I will build a new one for Skyrim.

Guess it depends on when we'll get to see what the specification are. And if graphics-wise it won't matter too much (e.g. medium graphics aren't so much different than high, but performance wise it costs a lot).

I was planning on upgrading and hoping to at some point this coming year, but Skyrim coming out has caused me to set a goal.

I'm going to purchase a computer built by digitalstormonline.com by the end of Spring 2011. Probably cost around $1,200 with whatever is the most powerful CPU/Video card combo I can get.

Well it's running on the same console hardware so I don't expect the requirements will be going up at all...

I'm really hoping for a separation between the console and PC here.
Make the 'minimum requirements', ummm...whatever. PC users should have an extra page or three in the options menu for UI, HUD, polygon, water, view distance, physics, and other visual enhancments.

I'm planning on getting one of those terrible 3rd shift night jobs on campus so as to accrue the lucre needed for such a venture.

But, while I'm certainly looking forward to TESV quite a bit, I feel as though the upgrade is made more viable by the huge numbers of great PC games slated to come out in 2011.

TESV
Guild Wars 2
Portal 2
Shogun 2: Total War
Diablo III
RAGE
Crysis 2
Fear 3

And so on.

You know the 6950 unlocks to a 6970.

Yes....I had to pump steroids into my computer to be able to run Oblivion. There's no way I can run Skyrim without a significant upgrade.

I'll be moving country (again) a few months before Skyrim, so I'm looking forward to building a new budget gaming rig. It's easier than shipping my current one, and chances are it'll be cheaper than shipping it too!

If it has decent multi-core support everything should be gravy. I can run Fallout pretty well, so Skyrim should be okay, I hope.
