Are you buying/building a new rig for TES:V?

I don't think that Bethesda has ever put out a rig wrecker like Crysis so I think that people are safe with the system that they have. Keep in mind that this game has to go on the ps3 and the xbox360 for Bethesda to make some real cash.

8GB DDR2 @ 1068Mhz
I might add a SSD to the mix to see how much faster load times are than my 500GB 7200RPM.

With that much ram, you could just do a RAMdisk and install to that to see how it would perform. Have you ever tried monitoring to see how much ram you actually use on a daily basis? I hover around 60% of 4 GB even with a RAMdisk.

I'm going overkill on the ram

Intel i7 950
Asus Rampage III Extreme
12gb Ram (with cooler)
Nvida GTX 580(might get SLI if I have enough money left)
1200w power modular
1x 2 TB Internal Hardrives (Green)
2x Blu Ray Combo Drives
Antec Dark Fleet DF-85
CoolerMaster V8 CPU Cooler
3x Leadtex Blue Case Fans
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer

Play all my games on max settings but mainly Skyrim

Edit: Just under $2500 AUD not including shipping
Edit: If that doesn't work can always use my new ps3 (PC gamer at heart)

With a Q9450 and HD5970 for a desktop and a laptop that can max Crysis with AA @ 1600x900 and be playable... I don't think I have to worry.

Holy bottleneck Batman!

If I have a job then I might upgrade some of the hardware so I can play it a little smoother. I can usually play games like Oblivion on max-ish graphics, it's just the FPS will fluctuate.

Atm:
Core i5-750 @ 3.6 GHz
2*2 GB @ 2040 MHz
ATi 5850 (6950 6970 soon :celebrate: )

Before Skyrim I'm upping CPU to either Bulldozer or Sandy Bridge, whichever has the best bang for the buck & temperature OC-wise, and doubling my ram and getting an ssd. Should be enough for mediocre settings.

LOL we have basically the same system <3
Core i5 750 @ 3.5GHz
4GB OCZ RAM
Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 5850 OC Edition

If I were you I would hold off that new GPU. A 5850 is still more than sufficient and I think it would be cooler to wait for AMD's new Southern Islands architecture in the 7000 series.

Edit: Get an SSD. I got a Corsair Force F60 over the holiday to use as a boot drive and for a couple of programs and the speed increase is very noticeable.
