Are you buying/building a new rig for TES:V?

Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 11:26 am

Well I don't know about you guys, but I've been holding off building myself a new rig in anticipation for TES:V. I want to run this baby as best I can! Next year I'll be doing a placement in industry so will be earning enough to justify it (and I still get my student loan!!), so (much to my girlfriends despair) I'll probably be spending over a grand on a new rig :)

Just interested to know how many of you have also been holding off.

Well it's running on the same console hardware so I don't expect the requirements will be going up at all. Right now I'm sitting on an i7 system with a 280GTX. That should hold me fine for the next few years.

I would if I weren't a poor, unemployed college student. As it is I'm hoping I'll be able to get a job in the summer so that I don't have to try to get my parents to buy me TES V as a gift... I can make do with my 360. Hopefully once I'm out of school and land a steady job, I can look into building a legitimate gaming rig, but until then, I'll be content with my laptop and 360.

With a Q9450 and HD5970 for a desktop and a laptop that can max Crysis with AA @ 1600x900 and be playable... I don't think I have to worry.

I've built a new computer two months ago, which should be more than adequate. Besides, it's multiplatform so the system reqs will be reasonable IMO.

Well, Bethesda claims that it'll work and look like a next-gen game.

But yeah, I'm probably going to get some new hardware for this - the question is what hardware?

Until we know the system requirements for Skyrim, I can't really make that decision.

Since a "new" engine is being used, who knows if it will be better optimized than Gamebryo. I think I should be okay with my current rig.

I was just about to start looking into putting together a new one, but now I'll wait a little longer until the system requirements are released.

My PC will max out this game easily. If in the highly unlikely event my PC cant handle it I will upgrade it.

I would love to, but college is right around the corner, and...priorities! I'll probably stick to the console version, actually - that way I don't have to invest in new hardware to enjoy the game.

I would love to get a PC for this game, but unfortunately I'm a little low on funds. Console version will have to do.

Probably...it depends on whether I can find a decent internship/clerk position at a law firm or something similar (I'm in law school). I'm running a desktop from 2004 that has been upgraded multiple times. It's kind of like the reliable car that has more replacement parts than original parts in it though, so I'm getting to the point where it'll be smarter to buy a whole new system. That means saying goodbye to Windows XP though, and that kind of makes me sad. Today I bought a new hard drive (1 Terabyte...man that's huge compared to the 150GB drive I had on this system), so that should tide me over in the mean time.

I'm saving all my money to put together a rig. I priced it out at $1,200 that includes a GTX 470 and a 6 core processor. That's part of the reason I'm glad it isn't coming out for another 11 months.

So if I can save $30 a week ($4 a day), I can have a sweet rig by the time I get Skyrim!

Yeah, probably. Though it's not directly related to Skyrim, since I wanted to make one this year. I'll just be holding it off a bit until I can see some videos or screenshots to get a ballpark estimate in case anything ridiculous happens.

I bought one in February 2008, it's pretty good. At most I might upgrade something, but I think I'll be fine for 2011.

I play on the 360, but I plan on buying a better tv before the game comes out.

Yes, but only because the game will be released shortly after my usual rig upgrade time. I might try and sell my i7 System around then too so I will have more money to play with. Hopefully this time I will be able to afford water cooling too!

I honestly don't expect this game to take much more hardware than what I have now, but by then I'm sure there will be more games out that I can use to push it's limits.

No, I'm certain my current Rig will at least be capable of running at near max graphics. I'll be upgrading it because I can.
