Are you a collector? Will you collect something in Skyrim?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 7:34 pm

Everything, rare armour set, weapons, books, plants.

Rare / unique items are cool, hope there are many in Skyrim (pardon the contradiction), cause you can make your house like a museum. As mentioned by Minus Sanity.

I tend to put different tipes of equipment in different chest. A chest for stee, a chest for daedric... and of course books.

I've seen a lot of house mods do that, designated chests for every specific type of armor and weapon. I don't really understand why. I've never been like "Oh! I need a Mithril Cuirass!" when I'm like level 30. I could see keeping a chest for Daedric Armor alone in case you wanted to enchant it with something different or something like that, but what use is a full set of Mithril or Leather? Why have chests set aside for that when not only are they for much lower levels, but they're light armor. I'm not sure I understand that type of organization for something I'm never going to use or even look at. I'd understand if you placed all pieces of equipment on display so it's a nice little showcase or something, but if they're just sitting in a chest...I don't get it.

My Skingraad house is clad in the finest rare items as well. It was fun placing items like the unique painting I had made for me in Chorrol there

Yes! I loved the Reward Painting. I hope more things are like that in Skyrim, existing solely for the purpose of decorating your house. I always love decorating my house. I spent a lot of time doing so in Oblivion on various different characters.

Oh yeah, especially my mages and thieves. Wherever my home base is, it's packed with all the cool stuff in the game. Mankar Camoran's Robe? Laying over there in the corner, his staff sitting on top of it. Umbra? You mean that old thing? Laying in front of the fireplace. Open up that chest over there and you'll probably find fifty pearls, thirty or more welkynd stones, fifteen or twenty sigil stones, and uncounted soul gems. If it's unique, valuable, or even just interesting, once I get enough money to be comfortable, I end up being a pack rat. My thieves are the worst.

Me too. Must have everything! I am a collector of all manner of junk whether it has a use or not.

Edit:
That sounds crazy, I'm totally opposite in real life.

I'll likely collect unique items again.
And perhaps books, and all armour sets and gems.
Or pretty much anything that will look pretty in my Skyrim house.

First and foremost I collect books! Books! Books! New lore, old lore, funny lore. All collected. All here. :read:

Secondly, pretty much everything. I like to have at least one set of every armor, one of every weapon, anything that's unique or rare, a ton of potions and booze, and lanterns/candles if they bring them back. And of course Dwemer stuff since we will see the return of Dwemer ruins.

In Daggerfall I am trying to get my hands all: The real Barinzea by anonymous (forgot her exact name), King Edward by the same anonymous, and Biografy of Barinzea books...

in Oblivion I'm collecting Daedric artifacts...

Maybe, if sword racks are in I'd be collecting weapons most likely, allthough my first mod project will be a house for my character, in which case I'll just place a collection of sorts in there if I feel like it, saves me time and makes my house look cool in the process.

I will pick up each and every one of the most useless items in the game and cart them home with me. I can't wait!

Pretty much.

But I never did this in OB because the physics were too much of a pain to put anything on proper display.

Howver

In MW I collected those littled red statues, used many lanterns (set up "runway lighting" up the hill to my house), and of course...PILLOWS!

I tried collecting sets in Oblivion but I was always too lazy to search for a specific item and thus my collection was always incomplete. I'll probably try to collect something ridiculous that noone else has thought of collecting.

On oblivion i always collected bones, and tried to make skellies out of them. That didn't quite work a lot of the time... No hands or feet. and hard to move full skeletons...

I always collect books, and I also like to collect skulls.
It's not too weird in Tamriel seeing as the Mages Guild and arcane shops like to have them on their shelves. :P

Books and gems, no organizing I just throw them on tables and shelves and leave. My houses look like those weird games where you're to find a specific item in a room full of junk.

It depends.

The ability to display anything in Oblivion was limited for a great many reasons.

1. The more items in a room, the more issues it caused with game performance.

2. The inability to arrange furniture or choose furniture (such as display cases).

3. The inability to put objects where I wanted them and how I wanted them.

4. The NEED for money at low levels.

5. The LACK of anything worth collecting at high levels, aside from truly significant items.

6. The inability for my character or myself to see the difference between a cool magic item that was standard, and a unique item (some things such as Umbra stick out - but some unique items have nothing that distinguishes them from "any other normal magic item").

7. Weight. Sure, that war hammer looks cool, but it weighs 75 pounds. PS: Will someone please tell me who in their right mind wields a 52 pound katana effectively with one hand? This is akin to Rambo firing two M-60s at the same time that he's holding with just one hand each. More-so, actually. The M-60's are lighter (combined) than that katana is.

And more.

So... I could see myself collecting things, sure.

If the game is built with the appropriate tools to do so.

My previous Morrowind character collected history books and fancy silverware, and my last Oblivion character collected shoes. I'm hoping Skyrim has enough clutter that I'll be able to take up an even more deranged hobby by then.
