are you getting the 'Strategy Guide'?

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 8:27 pm

I was wondering how many people will be getting the strategy guide and when, i myself will most likely pre-order a copy that comes with a the guide. What are your thoughts on the pros/cons of getting the guide?

No. I want to figure out the game myself, and not get spoonfed everything to do.

I will never get one. It is meant to be a game of mysterious adventures.

Never buy one the UESP site is great for stuff like that.

As for using it, I definetly won't be until I have found and done as much as I can by myself first (likely at least 1000 hours or so, through various play throughs). I don't want anything to be spoilt by reading about any quest lines/outcomes beforehand.

I'll get one, the guide is an awesome book. You can use it or not, but either way it's a nice thing to have. The Oblivion guide is currently doing service as a monitor stand. :hehe:

i agree that i too love the sense of adventure, but whenever iv'e finished a quest i like to check whether iv'e missed something cool, plus the radient AI will probobly mean a lot of the quests cant be too specific... :hehe:

Never bought a strategy guide for a game ever. Why buy a game and then a cheat guide to play it? I never understood the logic behind that at all. Its like buying a game only to watch someone else play it for you.

pros: you know everything in the game

cons: you know everything in the game (suprise is a good thing, taking away that takes away a fun aspect of the game)

Edit: to answer your question, no I am not getting the guide, for 2 reasons, I don't want to know everything, I can just look online (i don't feel like paying more money when I am paying a ridiculous price for the CE (for a dragon made of pvc) [i'm not getting the ce for the dragon, i just meant that its overpriced for a plastic material)

Well considering the AI and how quests are randomly generated, a gameguide doesn't have much use besides the main quest and general gameplay tips...and if we can take Morrowind and Oblivion as role models for Skyrim, neither would call for a guide...

Nahh. Looking through the Creation Kit will give me 100x more information than a strategy guide

I sure am. There's a lot of information in there that you can't get anywhere else. I won't be reading a lot at first and defintely not the quest information when I begin play but there are maps and character information, weapon stats and other details that will be fun to read when I do finally read it. It's a collector's item too and the preorder was only $16 on Amazon, not bad at all. :)

when i first got oblivion i was given the guide for free. from there i got the guides for fallout 3 (GOTY) and fallout nv. i was happy and fine. then i got OWB dlc for fallout nv without looking at any guide. i loved finding things out for my self. from that day on i never look at any more game guides. THE END

pros: It's a nice item if you like to collect TES related stuff.

cons: It costs money while all info you'll ever need can be found on the UESP for free in no time, including info on later DLC content, making the guide pretty much useless.

im now getting convinced the guide aint worth it, consider what DESTROYER said, plus being able to see UESP, all i know is the oblivion guide i got may have spoiled the quests for me since i couldnt resist reading prettymuch everything.... :hehe:

Following a guideline set by a strategy guide would ruin the game for me. The first time I play through the game I want to marvel at the new things and discover it for myself. If on a subsequent play through I want to know exactly how a quest or something works, I will consult the god like fountain of knowledge that is UESP. No little book can contain that much information.

I might buy it later just to have as a pretty object.

Also with the new radient AI system alot of things in the game can't be accounted for as they will be different each time you do them.

Obviously things like the MQ will be linear but other area not so much

Who the hell buys strategy guides anymore? If you really need help in a game. That's what Gamefaqs is for.

I sometimes purchase strategy guides, but usually after having played the game for awhile. Honestly, I like technical facts in the guides and the lists etc. They usually have a nice manual going over all the specifics of skills or talents or perks and what not. I find that stuff accessible and I enjoy having it accessible. Additionally, after having played the game for some time, I enjoy reading the quests in the strategy guides and reviewing the decision trees to see what sorts of things I may have missed.

I don't think anyone buys those guides and just do what the guide says step by step. That would be a terrible way to play a TES game as far as I am concerned.

Haven't used a strategy guide since I got stuck in Pokemon on the Gameboy Color.

I will not download or buy a strategy guide: just using me brain to get through the MQ of Skyrim gives me the kicks! :celebration:
