Are you going to "Blind" TES V?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 8:13 pm

Yes, I will. I did this with Morrowind (though not so hard, because I wasn't a TESF member when I got that game), Oblivion and Fallout3 and haven't visited the FNV forums yet, and won't untill I have played the game extensively.
The only things I will look into is screenshots, and some (p)reviews. But the spoilers section of the TESV forums will be off-limit once the game is released.

I'm gonna' try my best to do so.. I didn't with Oblivion and kinda' regret it.
Obviously if I get really stuck, I may run crying to the UESP, but with now previous TES experience, I should manage.

Best of luck to others that try this.

Fo' shizzle.

I want to explore the world, not tick things off a checklist :) It's the unexpected things that give the most enjoyment.

IF you are unfamiliar with what blind means then it's basically not looking up any quests or characters or researching the game much on UESP or any other website. I think it makes for a more enjoyable game if you don't since you are experiencing it first hand. I won't even look up a character building tutorial.

Definitely. I don't want to ruin the freshness of the experience.

All of my first plays are blind.

Of course it would be better if I could play knowing absolutely nada about TES.

I'll stop looking at the forums about 1-2 months before the game is released. I did that with fallout 3, new vegas, and hopefully will do it with TES skyrim. I don't know if I will succeed.

Going in blind for the most part. The only thing I'll want to know before hand is how many Vampire clans there are and the differences between them.

I will look at screenshots and a few gameplay videos. Other than that I want to discover the game for myself. I'll leave the min/maxing for subsequent playthroughs.

I always do that, with every game.

The Wiki is a great reference tool, for when memory fails, or to look up old info ~but not as a game guide.

Researching the plot besides the very first thing they tell you in the teasers...the quests...is like saying HI I desire to intentionally enjoy this game less! Knowing whats going to happen is not fun

BUT..pictures and screenshots generally are spoiler safe..most of the time you wont know what your looking at.

Definitely. I will spend the time I normally spent on UESP by reading in-game material.

Yes. I try to go through all games "blind" the first time, as I feel it helps me with immersion. Now, on consecutive playthroughs, it's all fair game. If they offer a strategy guide for a discount when purchased with the release, I'll probably get it, but I won't look at anything but the intro, stats, bestiary, char. gen. info etc; until I'm done my first full playthrough.

I wasn't even aware of the term "Blind." I thought that was the norm when entering, large, open world, games such as this.

Same, when the OP posted I thought it was something like not spoiling yourself with previews and images, etc. But then I saw a bunch of people posting things about reading guides and going to the wiki to solve quests.

Oh my goodness people, do you guys really read guides for games? Every single game I play I go "blind". That is the only way to do it!

Of course. I don't know why anyone else would do otherwise. I did buy Oblivion's guide, but that was just because I liked the reading.

I might do that during the second or third playthrough.

How would you do that if you'd already looked at the guides on your first playthrough?

I'm only going to view the guides if I get really stuck. I ruined Oblivion by looking everything up before too long.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the point? :/

I always blind my games, I don't see the fun in a game if you look it up.

The only thing I will look up for my first playthrough is a list of the perks and the corresponding requirements.

I did that with Fallout 3, Fallout NV, and I'm going to be doing it with Skyrim. I mean, I'm on my second playthrough for NV and I'm finding quests and characters I had never met before even though I was certain I explored all that could be explored in my first playthrough.
