Are you a gun owner?

Post » Fri Jun 18, 2010 3:45 am

Well, I don't carry it around at all. But I'll still get myself better acquainted with it this summer, hopefully. I hope never even have to take it out though.

Yeah, even if you don't carry it around. If you can conceive of a reason you'd use it, make sure you're familiar with it before the situation ever arises.

I plan to own a gun one day. But would like more informartion on the subject. What would be a good direction? Possible to rent a gun at a firing range to try it out?

Should I start with a pistols since I would like one for self defense?

Also opinion on bolt actions?

I've fired an assortment of rifles and carbines and a pistol a few times back when they were still legal here. I think I may have even hit the target once, though I may be mistaken.

I don't have a gun, however the only gun I would use for self-defense is a shotgun. Only thing I've ever shot was a BB gun and my dad's shotgun once.

-2 12gauge shotguns (one pump, one autoloader)
-A Beretta 9mm
-A bolt action .22 rifle
-A little .380 pistol

As long as the topic remains open ill post in this highly biased poll, I do not see gun owners as bad people but I am for very very strict rules regarding gun ownership. Even more so after this weeks recent events.

At the moment I have a little 22 rifle that an uncle gave me and 1 broken BB pistol that's about it. Personally I would like to own a firearm, but I just don't see a point in it since there's no gun range near me. Could use for self defense however it would just get dusty since my neighborhood *thankfully* is calm and quiet. Besides guns are for show knives are for pros. :mohawk: :chaos:

No. Since I'm only 14 :) Though I do believe we have the right to possess firearms and to defend ourselves, with the right authentication and training.

I plan on buying a couple guns when I can own them legally, maybe even collect them, but thats not for a couple years.

Unless paintball counts.

Was not expecting to see so many responses this fast, interesting answers. I currently own 4 firearms by the way and plan to buy many more(as well as hopefully inherit some as well like my grandfathers BAR) as well as if I can save up enough a tank or apc.

I dont see any reason why a normal everyday person would need a gun. A farmer who has to worry about wolves running off with livestock, yeah, but anyone else....

No and I don't see any reason why I should.

My father owns a few Civil War era Mosin rifles and some handguns(old Beretta 92 and a revolver(I don't remember the name)) though.

Not anymore. I had a 22 rifle when I was younger and we lived out in the middle of nowhere.

Nope, don't think it's allowed over here, except for at a shooting range. Still some whackjob started randomly shooting around him with a machine gun in a shopping mall here a few days ago...

I don't see the point of having a gun for self defense here.

But you are partly true, one of those rifles has a pre-communist regime stamp with a date 1910.

I have never touched a (real) gun nor a shotgun in my entire life and a great majority of the people I know haven't either.

That would aply to me too if Finalnd didn't have...Whatever it's called when every man has to serve in the army. Fired an RK-62 assault rifle (AK derivate used by finnish army, nowadays they have RK-95's). Boy did i svck

Is America really that much more dangerous than the UK that you guys all need guns? I'm at uni in Middlesbrough, which is pretty [censored] rough, and I have never once felt like I needed a knife or anything, much less a gun.

Edit: to be honest I disagree with the public having guns. I know the whole 'more likely to shoot a family member than a burglar' thing is a cliché but to be honest I think there's probably a lot of truth in it.

Further edit: I like how biased this poll is

Logically, I don't really see any reason why they should be readily legal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence#Homicides_by_country - there's a pretty obvious correlation between ease of availability of firearms and overall homicide rate (and particularly with gun homicide rate), as one would predict. One of the few things Australia has gotten right, in my opinion.

That said, I'd consider getting one were they legal here, and I have no problem with gun owners.

The problem with gun legislation is that is does not solve the issue, and this is bad untrained whackjobs getting guns. All legislation does is harm legal gun owners.

For instance, I have a friend that lives in a gun controlled county next to D.C, it is one of the most dangerous counties in the country. Now, travel over to my county, with almost no gun restrictions and highly conservative, one of the safest in the country. I have some friends that live right on the county line, and robbers will NEVER cross the border, because almost everyone in my county has a gun.

In England, they banned guns, but guess what? Gun related crimes have risen 300% percent! Gun restrictions only target legal gun owners, and that is why I HATE gun laws.

Why does a area need to dangerous for a person to own a gun? The area I live in isn't dangerous, I just like guns and shooting them. Is there some reason I can't have this hobby? I plan to buy a .22 for each of my children that they will have from birth, I also plan to teach them how to use and respect them.

Because the people who already break laws aren't going to worry about a little gun control.
