Are you happy attributes are gone?

Can we get a beating a dead horse emoticon please.

Since we have yet to experience the new system, I see no merit in beating on this dead horse any more.

Yes there are those who like it and those that don't. I am on the fence until I have the game in hand, or we get an in depth explanation as to how it will work. An RPG doesn't need a set of arbitrary ability scores to define a character, and certainly doesn't need one where these scores increase as you level. Everyone could max out all of their abilities eventually, and this means every character has the potential to be identical to every other; super human demigods.

Lol, that'd be awesome, but first I'd like them to concentrate on making a better search engine. I searched the word Attributes before posting this, and got no results that were even about attributes. :P

did you put -this forum- and -in Title- when you searched? all of those posts are there because attributes are mentioned...so you can see how pervasive its become

No.

Its as if Bethesda have approached this problem of attributes being not quite right with the same way they appraoched unbalanced skills sets in Morrowind, instead of looking for a way to fix it, they just removed it.

I dont care what anyone says, removing features from a game is rarely a good thing. If this new no attributes doesnt work, there is a very good chance the entire game will feel...wrong due to the character progression not working correct.

I also think this is the death of attributes in the ES games, when was the last time bethesda admited it was a mistake that they removed a certain feature (aka spears from oblivion, ) and they included it in the next game......I still see no spears. Whether this new system works or not, attributes as we know them have left the series for good.

Oops, I didn't :P I should really learn how to use that thing better before criticizing it.

Indifferent. I absolutely hated the way attributes and leveling were handled in Oblivion and Morrowind, and was eager to see them change in some way. Didn't matter how, just about ANY change would have sufficed. Removing attributes may not have been my first choice in going about that, but I'm not going to miss them.

Sometimes, I felt as though attributes limited me; I would practise certain skills just to make sure I had good bonuses when I levelled. Without attributes, that restriction is gone!

What I've been saying all along. Attributes are restrictive.

I'm skeptical, but won't complain unless the removal of attributes detracts from the depth of the game. We'll see when it comes out. The new system is looking a lot like dark messiah's to me (albiet, with more perk options) which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't necessarily fit TES's RP style.

Im sure at the time of Oblivion's release Bethesda's reason for rampant level scaling seemed pretty good, but in retrospect now, it was an awful idea. The same could be possible with this new skill system.

That was a problem with how the attributes were distributed, not with the concept of attributes themselves.

Daggerfall and Arena let you distribute points into whatever attributes you wanted when you leveled up, you didn't need to do any grinding.

I voted no. Health, mana, stamina are not attributes. There is no way to raise magic defense without raising the mana bar that I wouldn't need. With attributes there was a chance for that to happen, even if it wasn't done before. (Willpower) That game play mechanic is gone.

That's not entirely accurate. It's more like being forced to grind skills you have no interest in so that you can maximize your distributable points a level-up so that you're not gimped later in the game.

What I'm trying to say is the system is needless, not that the actual input or output of skill grinding is. Attributes could've been worked around to be more less laborious, and I think we're on the same page with that. I'll try to pose my thoughts more clearly next time. :foodndrink:

I'm on a wait and see policy, beth wouldn't change such a major thing without good reason, but we won't know if it pays off or turns out like OB world leveling with you untill we get our hands on it.

No spellmaking, I can live with. No classes sounds cool. No spears I can live with, but no attributes?

I realize they're trying to get at the core of what attributes represent, magicka, stamina, and health, but they were so much more! 1) They were an amazing mechanic for roleplaying. 2) There are more attributes than Endurance and Intelligence, what about Speed? Agility? Luck? 3) Attributes allowed you to partially commit to things. For example, if I want to have a lot more health, but still want some extra stamina, I could choose endurance.

No attributes I'm still unsure if can live with. I will probably still buy the game, but it won't have nearly the same impact.

Also, I have seen discussions on this, but no full polls, and the search bar turned up nothing at all on the topic of attributes, and my search term was attributes. :P

Poll Edit: I added an other option, and removed the extra words after the yes and no, I felt like I was putting words in people's mouths.

who cares skyrim will be better then oblivion anyway.

I just closed a problem thread earlier this evening, that devolved into this same pointless nit-picky argument.

Y'all can focus on what's missing and moan about a game not yet released, that you don't know how it will play, you have no real idea how your characters can roll, and you can all continue to [censored] about what you already feel is missing because it's not like some other game or games... but you can't do it for the rest of the night.
We've been getting complaints about these topics, and the complaints are about - and from - the same small group of members. So everyone can take a deep calming breath, smile to yourself and say "geez louise, why am I getting so worked up over a game I won't even really know about or be able to judge for another 6 months", maybe go have a snack and a nice beverage and find some other topics to participate in this evening.
