Are you happy attributes are gone?

Post » Sat Jul 31, 2010 3:59 pm

No spellmaking, I can live with. No classes sounds cool. No spears I can live with, but no attributes?

I realize they're trying to get at the core of what attributes represent, magicka, stamina, and health, but they were so much more! 1) They were an amazing mechanic for roleplaying. 2) There are more attributes than Endurance and Intelligence, what about Speed? Agility? Luck? 3) Attributes allowed you to partially commit to things. For example, if I want to have a lot more health, but still want some extra stamina, I could choose endurance.

No attributes I'm still unsure if can live with. I will probably still buy the game, but it won't have nearly the same impact.

Also, I have seen discussions on this, but no full polls, and the search bar turned up nothing at all on the topic of attributes, and my search term was attributes. :P

Poll Edit: I added an other option, and removed the extra words after the yes and no, I felt like I was putting words in people's mouths.

False dilemma. I didn't "hate" attributes. I also don't know if adding attributes will mess up what they've currently developed. We just don't know how the Skyrim system works.

Theres 3 attributes: Health, Magicka, and Stamina. The 8 only consisted of those 3 anyway instead of Luck and I'm sure strength and luck will be perks or somthing...

Attributes don't make or break the system or determine whether it is fun to play. Ask me again after we actually know what the hell we're arguing about. Too much speculation still, IMHO.

They're dead to me. I'm happy they're gone. They defined what being restrictive is all about. Thank you Beth.

No spellmaking? Oh maan... Are you sure? I've been keeping up with every bit of Skyrim media available and I haven't heard anything about any of that. As for attributes, I was honestly surprised about the development teams decision to omit them, but happy because In oblivion the whole attribute leveling thing, along with major skills (also being removed via classes) was seriously flawed and made it very hard to play the game right unless you knew exactly what you were doing. A new player could become very weak very fast without knowing what he was doing wrong.

Nope, this was never discussed. Never...

Why do you only have 2 options for the poll being on opposites of the spectrum? I like the way their going with this game, but I didn't hate them, plus it's not like you won't see the same effects from spells/items, it's just not like how Oblivion had it where you had try and maximize your attributes and spend all this time number crunching which isn't the purpose of this game, if that's what you want to play, go play Statmaster 3000: Return of the Evil Accountant.

The 8 were a lot more than just picking between Health Magicka and Stamina, that was the whole point of my post. Only 2 of the 8 affected those three, endurance, and intelligence. The others if at all, only slightly affected those. They did other things.

They are being put into perks most likely and if not than I don't really care ethier way to be honest, I'm upset they got rid of birthsigns :swear:

I'm not sad to see them go. One of those mods for Oblivion I never leave home without is nGCD. It alters Oblivion's leveling system to work a lot like Skyrim's will. As you raise skills, it automatically raised the associated stats, and in turn raised health, magicka, magicka regen, etc. Skryim just cuts out the middleman and requires you to actually distribute something. As a result, though, stats have basically been meaningless to me in TES for four or five years now.

Attributes have been folded into perks and health, magicka, and stamina.

I've been reading through some replies, and a few make points that I like. This topic has helped me see the other side of things, which was really its main purpose. Thanks. I'm still against them removing attributes, but keep posting, I may change my mind. :D

I won't be able to answer until after I try it. I didn't love or hate attributes before, so Im not gonna get worked up until I try out the new system. 11-11-11

I voted "No", because I'm sad they were removed, but I don't think they should be shoved back in. The devs have started down a path, and I'm sure the game will still be great without attributes.

But I will miss carrying more with Strength. I will miss better dodging with Speed. I will miss the sense of superiority with Intelligence. And I will definitely miss the certain "I don't know what" of Luck. I'm just an old school RPGer who likes character sheets with stats on 'em. Having three status bars just won't be the same.

Hmm, I'd say you didn't really care to begin with and just want your thread to grow because you love attention. Am I wrong?

Interviewer: If one core attributes such as strength and endurance in addition to the more specific?

Todd Howard: Okay, so you have 21 different skills. Then there are three core attributes: magic, health and stamina. A fan can come to say "you removed my eight favorite capabilities," and I reply "what do you want?". "I must have intelligence, because it affects my magic." Well, now you have a simple statistic of magic. Want to increase your skills in magic as you put points in magic, you do not have to detour through intelligence.

Todd probably finds these discussions amusing.
