Are you happy with how weapon mods look?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 8:11 am

Many of them are just base weapons with extentions, they look good for that purpose.

But with working with clutter items, wouldn't you prefer that they actually look like they were crafted from those parts giving it a scrapped authentic look?

If something is made with wrench, I wanna see that wrench. Unless I can melt glass and metal at proper temperatures, I wanna see those parts on the weapons raw.

Are you happy with creating 3 threads in a row?

Kidding aside I couldn't care less about modding as I'm going for melee my first 2 games.
I'm going to start guns in my 3rd playthrough and will continue playing whether I will like the mods or not.
I'm still hoping for decent mods for Melee weapons. Adding spikes to clubs, sharpening, balancing weight for either head heavier for more power or handle heavier for more speed, handle wrap for more stability...

nah. seems a bit much

i mean, if the weapon is some weird wacky thing that has a wrench in the design like a pipe with a wrench on the end to make a clunky looking wrench hammer thing then yeah

that seems like it'd be some kind of schematic type deal

but if its just taking the base elements like steel and screws into account, no, i don't want a wrench stuck on the side of my plasma rifle's stock

not like it matters much if anyone likes it or not, since the game is already basically finished, and it is not as if they would care what is said on here anyway, even if EVERYONE said they hated it.

I saw them turn a pistol into a full on rifle, with scope and a bayonet on the end. The screens were moving way too fast for me to get a look at what those things do, but color me intrigued to see what kind of hideous abominations I can birth on the worktable. Things that will be spoken of in hushed whispers. I want my weapons to be more feared than me myself.

I want to make weapons that when my enemies see them, they know it's the end of days and they should make peace with whatever spaghetti creature they worship.

I'm happy because it looks like the Commonwealth is on its way to some sort of post post apocalyptic setting. The tech level just seems higher than a true post apoc game should be.

It's nice to have the option and variety, but it doesn't have to be used :) weapon mods were very popular in the past games.

In this case immersion should give way to better looking, fun design.

Not particularly, no.

(Also, think about how many versions of each mod they'd have had to model, based on various combinations of the objects that can supply the parts?)

You don't have to keep telling people in threads how it doesn't matter considering how far they are in the game's development. People still like to talk about it and share their opinions with one another anyway because it's a forum.

Anyway, I'm happy with how the weapons look upon modifying. If I'm doing some advance modifications for my weapons, I would like to see them at their upmost powerful design, not as scrap. Even then, there are some weapons that seem to already have that worn look to them by default, and even with modifications, like the pipe rifle. I think that will suffice enough for someone wanting that kind of aesthetic for their weapon.

Those aren't mods any more, they are flat out parts. Anyway, there's a good share of weapons that look like they were put together with tape and spit (pipe rifle), so I guess as long as there are some weapons that look "official" and others that look like they were constructed in someone's basemant, then everyone's happy, right?

I was sold when I paused the video of the RL Pip boy being shown when he scrolls through the weapon screen and saw "Bayonetted Triple barrel Missile Launcher," so that may answer your questions :D

I think they may add a bit of an improvised look to them, especially the bayonets. Scopes are precision instruments so hopefully you will need a high rank in whatever governs crafting mods to create those, and I would expect them to look like a real world scope would.

There was also a mod section of the pip boy which has me wondering if we can also "mod on the fly" for example you get to a building and take a modded .45 "assault rifle" and mod it into a .45 sub machine gun for indoor pray and spray, and when we get on the roof convert it again to a .45 "scoped rifle" for some "Inteligence guided selections"

Tou did note what was on the pipe rifle right?

To be honest there was a lot of junk on the pipe rifle lol. Could you be a little more specific?

NO, it look way too close to dead space then i would like. I fear that that it will become same crap as it was in dead space, where constructing weapons looks like fun at first, but it gets boring very fast and you then suddenly understand that they just have killed all the weapon related fun in game.

Bayonetted Triple Barrel Missile Launcher. Just... whoa. A picture of that should be in the dictionary under 'anol' I mean, if 3 missiles doesn't stop whatever is coming at ya, you definitely need a bayonet to finish it off with, right?

While weapon mods looking professionally made, even if they are made from junk, isn't exactly realistic, the amount of time needed to make the texture combinations for every possible item combination that could be used to make the mod would be beyond staggering.

There would also be tons of clipping problems if they did that, which would only further lower the vaisual quality of weapon mods.

So, I can't really see the point in doing it.
