Are you happy with the Remastered Edition?

Post » Sun Oct 30, 2016 1:03 am

Not really happy on a PC at all, as a first reaction.

It seems, that somebody at Bethesda thinks, that a PC is just another gaming console.

Options for graphics resolutions have been narrowed down, the main menu has been made even more console-like, which I did not think was possible. It is unclear, whether the DLCs can be toggled. The entire mod management system seems heavily geared toward consoles and Bethesda.net. Perhaps other mods may also be used, but that is not immediately clear. I sure hope they haven't pulled a fast one on us.

The immediate first impression is strongly negative. Well, the graphics are better, but I was overwhelmed by the unexpected changes in the main menu system.

Perhaps all may not be that bad, but we shall see, I am not too trusting at the moment. I may have to sleep on this, and look at it more closely later.

Hmm. Now there is a Mods folder, which is separate from the Data folder, DLCs still have separate esm files, but all the textures and meshes are in sets of numbered bsa files, not DLC-specific ones. I really can't understand Bethesda's reasons for hiding and embargoing all the information about what changes they may have done to the setup, as this immediately raises more questions than it answers.

So so SO happy! It's a dream on my PC and YES you CAN loot the Torturer's Hood now! And my Dark Elf has pretty glowy red eyes and softer looking hair. Love it!!!

So far, it looks we've got what Bethesda said we would. Now, to mod the heck out of it :P

Yes. Just for the fact that mods on console have been a dream of mine since I got my 360 years and years ago.

My first impression is very negative based on technical issues.

1. The game will not detect my video card even though it is a newer card.

2. The lack of options with resolution is a bit concerning. I can set old Skyrim to just about anything. SE is reduced to 3-4 resolutions. The best aspect I can get is about 1/2 the screen, and that destroys immersion.

3. The graphics are better, but I don't think they are that much better than modded Skyrim.

I understand that this was free for me, and that its mostly intended to give console users mods, but I would still like to dive into the experience. However, I am not going to do that unless they add more resolutions.

Well I finally got it unlocked and... colour me unimpressed. The only thing I can say is... is that it?

Textures are obviously higher resolution so look a bit sharper theres some kind of blurring effect when I move I assume thats the much vaunted Depth of Field, I've yet to see any God Rays whatsoever...

and, er, thats about it. Wow that was thoroughly underwhelming, honestly.

You'll have to set your resolution manually in SkyrimPrefs.ini just like in Fallout 4, in my case 3440x1440 the maximum the launcher will detect is 1080p (1920x1080) and also set to windowed mode, borderless, probably.

bFull Screen=0

The game is widescreen only (unlike regular Skyrim) and the little letterbox didn't even center on my screen. The game is dead to me for the foreseeable future. So glad I didn't pay for it!

Besides the lighting effects my modded original game looks better. AI path finding even in the opening was still awful, if not worse, in the opening scene before you take control of your character. The sound on a 5.1 system is improved but overall, I'm happy to stay with my original modded version. I can see why console players could be very happy with it though.

Alright, I played it and transferred my save file. I played on a vanilla version mostly, only downloading the unofficial patch. Here's a few things I noticed:

- The stats for a bunch of my stuff dropped. I will look into this later. (Keening, Dwarven Blackbow of fate, Vampire Lord armor set)

- Keening's enchant is still broken.

- You can now see through Keening!

- Placing Auriel's Shield on a rack when it's fully charged makes it glow like a beacon, nice touch!

- I couldn't load my save file at first until I removed my ancient pick axe for some reasons, had to get another one.

I love the game, the mechanics changed a bit and it feels nice, but I can't wait for a bug patch, I really want to play with Keening.

Looking forward to exploring the updated engine and its capabilities... but STILL not able to remap keyboard bindings?????? This should be an easy fix if Bethesda wants to do it.. right? I just want to be able to map keys on my keyboard to different movements. Like using my numberpad for movement? Other than that, spectacular!!

I thought you could after the first patch, and the remastered one should be using the newest patch. I'm an arrow key user myself so I know your feels bro.

But I'm playing the PS4 version right now, I prefer my massive 1000 hour open world games on the couch :3

Well, on the upside there seems to be a character profile save manager built into the title screen menu

Edit: Or at least something to do with selecting which character. I'm not exactly sure how the system decides to organize the save as my saves don't always wind up under my character's name. I have to select "Show All Save" first

- While the Torturer's Hood is lootable, sadly the executioner's gear is not

Believe I missed the difference in visual game play between SE and my heavily modded version of Skyrim? Wondering what ENB gamers two cents is on this. But unless you're a console gamer, it doesn't appear to be worth the inconvenience to install. Even if all the major popular mods were ported over in say, the next 2-3 weeks or so.

Mark me as another PC user that's not that impressed by it. Textures and none pixelated shadows are my biggest highlights so far.

I've spent more time playing on PS4 and so far it's been great. The best thing for me has been the frame rate - no choppiness like the PS3 version.

One little thing that bothers me is a kind of graphical 'glitch'. When I move the camera the darker areas of the screen go even darker. It's not a massive difference but it's noticeable. Is it my TV or the game itself?

Edit: the so-called glitch is actually caused by my TV. Renaming the HDMI port as PC gets rid of the problem but makes the picture more blurry.

The positive for me is that it gives me an excuse to buy a modern monitor. Now lets see if I bother to play an unmodded Skyrim.

This is a hard one. I would go back to the standard Skyrim in a heartbeat if I could reset achievements.

I feel like this was a bit of a last minute thought, with not enough time for decent execution. Already I've found a lot of texture errors, and obvious ones such as http://oi63.tinypic.com/25iu49f.jpg!

I was so excited for this, but so far it's been a bit of a disappointment. The only thing I'm truly impressed with is the sunglow.

Poll lacks a "Oh God no, I'm not happy!" option...

Soon as game started up, had fight overscreen issue...

Then noticed npc still look same, Hair is still ps3 looking, the fog looked AWESOME!!!

AWESOME!!!!!!!!

But npc and outfits and alot of objects still look like ps3 trash.

Game runs nicely, better then my PC could, and better then ps3.

But some of it is beautiful, and some of it.. is like.. whats this ps3 ugliness doing on my ps4. XD

I'm well aware of how this version came to be and why... but I expected so better. Even by my low standards, I expected better.

Lack of external mods was not considered in my point of veiw... cause well, Its not world ending. I just wanted to play game at solid 30fps and all pretty looking.

50/50 isnt to bad.

Oh and +1 to beth for fixing the forehead gap on one hair style I like. XD

I'm quite happy with it. Haven't played Skyrim on console in quite some time and it's good to play it there again. I do have it on PC but I just enjoy gaming more on console.

The updates have brought it new life, even after 200 hours on the original between PS3 and PC, Remastered Edition has brought me so much more joy and wonderment again!

Though, every mod disabling trophies svcks... I just want to add sign posts to the game... that doesn't affect any trophy!

Eh, can't complain since I didn't pay for it. XD But seriously, I'm going to stick with the original version for a good while at least. The SE looks nicer but graphics have never been a huge selling point for me and it'll be a while before all the 200+ mods I'm using are ported over.

Watching my friend play it (he is a first timer to Skyrim and the TES series, though he dabbled with my copy of Obvilion one time), and I can say as a returning player, I'm not that impressed.

Graphically, beautiful. Very nice indeed, the scenery in it's entirety brings a whole new aesthetic appeal to the game. Though for a returning player, it's nothing I'm going to jump over, especially not for $60. For a simple HD to higher-HD Remaster, I don't see the value (that could change though once he gets the Pro and we hook it up to my 4K TV). Especially with the mod situation, it's still where it was for me back then...just not worth the price until later on. The need to actually expand on game content to make a true new experience on the Sony platform is kind of a must for me to justify that high of a price. Until that's actually there this will definitely will be a used copy purchase for me.

Got it today on Xbox One (previously had the base game only on Xbox 360). Very impressed with the visual upgrade for the most part and it definitely seems to run smoother than the original version did.

Not saying you are wrong. For me, it's worth it. My son is loving it again on the Xbox One. I am enjoying it on the Xbox One. So for me while I had to pay $90+ (taxes included in that) it's still worth it, just to be able to play on the Xbox One. So for us to be able to play it again on our platform now is great. Yeah it svcks paying more, but at least we have the "worth" there for us.
