Are You Legally Too Young To Be Playing FO3?

Post » Sun Sep 27, 2009 5:59 pm

I wouldn't say its that graphic really. I've seen "worse" if you want to look at it that way.
On the up side, gory games are good in the since that it desensitizes people to blood and gore, makes it good for people who want to join the military or law enforcement.

I'm actually proud of how little porm

I hate when games do this. Blizzard did in WoW (vannila) But they seem to have stopped since then, which is nice since i really like the game.
I feel ashamed to know I got friends however, who are such losers that they look for games with that crap. I got nothing against nudity, but animated nudity isn't something I'm in to, plus it gives gaming communities bad rep.

What? 17 isn't too young to play. That's how old you have to be to buy it where I live. (Pennsylvania)

Too young to buy it myself, but I don't think I can say I'm too young to play. Judging from what I've experienced in other games (such as Manhunt), I didn't think Fallout 3 was too explicit.

I find that the majority of people my age (17, I am a little younger than the majority) are pretty mature when it comes to violence (other things.. erm.. no). I think the rating is there just to let parents see what type of game they are playing, which especially applies to things involving way more six/drugs/violence then FO3 has. But the fact is, they don't grade the game on how MUCH six/drugs/violence. Just the fact that the game has it makes it rated M. At least in the U.S.

Whole lotta youngins in here.

Not too young here and I honestly don't think the game is very explicit. I've seen far, far worse things that were real. At least you can't smell people when you kill them :yuck: If you mean the language, then that's just stupid. Granted, I don't think there should be words that are considered "bad". It's just silly. You can say really awful things without using "bad words".

I am in the UK.

Up until June of this year the UK used a PEGI rating system (which is like the ESRB system) as a guideline system only and if legal enforceability was desired then the game would be submitted to the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) for rating.
If selling or buying a game (or DVD or anything) rated by the BBFC you could be fined, or go to jail for it. Or your parents could. Depending on your age.

Fallout 3 is a game Rated by the BBFC and thus in the UK illegal for under the age of 18 to buy and play.

After June the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport decided to fully adopt the PEGI system and scrapped BBFC ratings for games. PEGI ratings are now legally enforceable. BBFC rated games however remain enforceable but the BBFC will no longer rate Games.

Yes, I am what you consider to be "underage" to be playing this game. Only 13, but my parents have no problem with me playing games like Fallout 3, as it's a virtual world, simulated violence, etc. Anyway, it doesn't matter how old you are, as long as you are mature enough to handle a game, without letting it get to you in a way where you think about going out and reenacting the events you see in said game(s). As long as the parents are the ones who bought you the game, then it's perfectly okay for an underage person to play a M rated game. Besides, I think it's cool to have parents that allow me to play these kinds of games, as some wouldn't let you, no matter how mature you are. :)

I'm 40. I think that qualifies as "of age".

Explicit? Yeah, sorta...exploding brains and severed body parts are a bit graphic for our younger gamers, IMHO.

As a baseline, my daughter is 18 and I'd have no problem with her playing this game. 6 years ago, I doubt I'd say the same.

I'm old enough to play it. And I consider anything with intense human violence and f-bombs to be explicit. Thats not to say that it makes me squirm, because it doesn't. I've been totally denatured in terms of violence, but I still understand that stuff like this can make others feel uncomfortable. Anyone who doesn't think so is truly too young to be playing these games or a sociopath.

I'm in my middle forties, so I'm safe.

As for it being too graphic, thats all up to the person. If you find it too graphic, I can understand that. If not, thats fine too. And if you're a minor, if your parents let you play, great. If not, thats cool too because they're legally responsible for you. My opinion, I know what the real deal would be like... and that is a hell of alot more graphic and disgusting that what ANY game could show. But I'm not going to tell anyone how to raise their kids. Thats the parents job, not mine nor the governments.

Wow - I must have just missed this thread.

Some interesting posts about the different cultures of the world here, but I don't think it's a good idea to be encouraging people to admit to breaking the law, when discussion of illegal activity is not permitted on this forum.

Thanks
