True, all the provinces still deserve to maintain benign cultural traditions and rights, but I think the Empire is compelled to step in on things like slavery. They mostly let the provinces live under their own rule and kings anyways. I'm hoping the Empire will transition to a Republic as well and that the Mede dynasty hasn't corrupted it overly much. If Bethesda uses the death of the Septims to turn it into a completely evil, tyrannical Empire I'll oppose it be but disappointed. Its just too common to find that theme, and I'm a believer in a benevolent government given the right officials and a stable and morally inclined system of laws.

I'll definitely be disappointed too. There's a lot of good to be found in the Empire. The only problem with a republic is that only the Emperor has the vision of the dragonborn. If the Republic becomes too corrupt and defies that vision, it could be a serious problem. Otherwise, a Republic would be great.

Prince Attrebus Mede seems like a good man. If he survives the Infernal City, gets experience under his belt and takes control of the Empire, he could do very well for the people of Tamriel. He reminds me somewhat of Juliek

Why did the Chimer/Dunmer feel they had any business on a volcanic island populated by Dwemer who just wanted to be left alone? It's not like the Ashlanders were the original inhabitants.

Again, to be fair, that's not quite the same. The Chimer merely wanted a place to live, guided by Veloth. The Empire had plans of conquest and great aims.

I hope that Bethesda doesnt turn the Empire to evil as well, that just makes things black and white not like it is now with no clear 'bad guy'.

I think a republic would be a very good idea, if the Empire put it in place, they could also hold a position to keep tabs to make sure the governments in each province dont fall to corruption. I mean, they are struggling right now and there is no time like the brink of ruin to reform!

I would love to see the Aldmeri Dominion rise up, however. I would love to see a major conflict between the two Empires, and various small bastions of slavery and superiority in Skyrim would be quite nice. Quaint, even!

I'm not sure what my nord will think about this. I mean, in his previous lives (reincarnation type stuff) the empire has always been just and fair in his eyes.
But now, the people who brought him up seem to resent the empire, so he was brought up to think that way too.
Perhaps he is neutral. He does not know at the moment.

Yet were it not for the Empire, Hammerfell and High Rock would have fallen into endless civil war, Morrowind would have been destroyed, and Tamriel would have been the realm of Mehrunes Dagon.

The Empire respects local tradition and religion, as long as it does not support slavery or oppose Imperial law. The various regional rulers retain their power, answering only to the Emperor. And as for our conquest, Tamriel must be united to face any threat. No one can afford to stand alone.
