No, I did not come back to Oblivion due to the news of the Elder Scrolls V being announced. I had returned to Oblivion for unrelated reasons quite some time before any official news of the Elder Scrolls V was available. Mainly, I got the temptation to play it again, perhaps in part due to having been playing Morrowind earlier, thus still being in the Elder Scrolls mood, and in part due to seeing a Youtube video demonstrating what can be done with Oblivion's graphics using mods, or something like that. Irontically, I'm not actually using the showcased mods. Regardless, I''d still be playing it even if Skyrim had not been announced, although I AM looking forward to Skyrim regardless.
I won't buy TESV as long as it requires Steam. My understanding is that it will require Steam right?
I may be mistaken, but I don't think we have any official information one way or another on that subject. But I wouldn't be surprised if it requires Steam, considering that seems to be the direction Bethesda is headed, going by New Vegas, at least, which while developed by Obsidian, is published by Bethesda, so while Obsidian was in charge of game design, I expect Bethesda was able to determine what kind of DRM it would use. Of course, had the response to Steam been sufficiently negative, Bethesda might have chosen to do things differently. But considering New Vegas seems to be doing pretty well despite some complaining about the use of Steam, I could very well see Bethesda continuing to use Steam.
Myself, I wouldn't really approve of needing to use Steam, I'd really prefer not to have to install third party software that really shouldn't be necessary to run the game on my computer to play it, and besides, it's absurd for a single player game to require online activation to play. Still, it hasn't stopped me from plying games I want to play before, and if Skyrim requires it, I doubt it will stop me this time.
