SO are you still buying Skyrim?

Everybody is confused, wonder if Bethesda is bottling and selling our confusion.
My guess is upgradable armor or multiple armor sets.

I agree with most of you; merging armor slots isn't by itself a deal-breaker.
It is, however, an indicator of Todds "what can we take away" ideology.
The worry here is that this ideology has sculpted the game as a whole and we'll end up with a game too simplified to be fun.
I can understand the reasons for toning down the complexity. It should widen the audience some and increase revenue but if Todd pushes this strategy too far, he'll end up shooting the franchise in the foot:
The game may become simple enough for children but too violent to be appropriate while at the same time becoming too simple for the older audience to enjoy.

I'll read some reviews and maybe find somebody that bought it and give it a try before I buy this time around.
If it's crazy simplified, maybe I'll just get a copy for my 6 year old son.
Err.. Wait.. Too violent.

Seriously 23 people? This isn't a barbie doll game. You can live with 1 less armor slot.

Most of them are lying and will buy the game at some point, more like 5 I reckon.

I also question the subtitle:

Are you going to buy skyrim even though amour is reduced.

it is not clear to me that armor is "reduced". If Curiasses and Greaves are combined there can still be a wide variety of armor.

I've not been following this in detail, trying to avoid spoilers, but I thought I heard that there were statements about more diverse armor, including armor specific to races. I could be wrong. But just combining two pieces doesn't necessarily mean that there is less diversity of armor.

I am likely still buying (unless there are some very sketchy reviews) but if they move any further from what I need in a rpg to have fun I won't be purchasing the next game.

Basically I an seconding what Psyco01234 said.

1 less from Oblivion, 4 less from Morrowind (not factoring in clothing, nor the robes too)...... It's the trend that is getting everyone up in arms. Beth is doing the oposite of what the fan base wanted. It's still not a personal game breaker for me and I agree with you poeple are over reacting when they say the won't buy it.

no. what is stupid is sticking to a brand just because of the name. with all the news that makes skyrim even more dumbed down from oblivion than oblivion itself was from morrowind, it is justifiable not to buy the game. it is much more stupid to buy it because you liked previous game. its just like people who buy all new iterations of call of duty or the new cool ipod

Who said we're sticking to Skyrim 'just because of the name'? There is more than the name for sure. All simplification considered, there are still a lot of features that are new or improved from Oblivion. Oblivion itself improved the series in some particular aspects, you know... anyway you're on the wrong forums if you think that persuading people not buy the game will bring anything good to the series.

Buying it of course. Mixing armor types too much looks ridiculous anyway.

Todd said there are 3 main guild.
We'll have to wait for more info on the "minor" guilds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8u7px_GzWQ I'm still buying Skyrim. I'm sure that the game is in a lot of ways overhyped, I know that there will be problems, I'm sure it won't be quite what I'm expecting... BUT so was Oblivion. It didn't stop me fom putting hundreds if not thousands of hours in it.

Plus the core game is less than half of the whole packadge. The creation kit will no doubt allow us to mod the game into what we want it to be (that was the case with morrowind and oblivion). There will be countless overhauls, hundreds of quest mods, some of which will propobly put the main quest to shame.

Actually I kind of feel sorry for those who will be playing it on the consoles, their experience will be only a fraction of what is possible. Unless they will manage to implement modding on consoles.

The thing is...this is just a drop in the bucket. Nobody can do what Bethesda can with an open world game. Some come close (Gothic, Two Worlds) but each has their own problems which are ultimately greater.

But here's the rub. When Bethesda continues to "streamline" and "make accessible," it becomes easier and easier for those and other rivals to compete. And it opens up the possibility that one day, a gaming company will make a game that is "better" at being an "Elder Scrolls style game" then Bethesda themselves. At that point, the only thing making ES better than it's competitors will be it's prettiness. And I don't buy games because they're pretty.

"Bummer but if I'm hoenst I NEVER mixed and matched armors in OB anyway since the combos looked terrible so "Oh well" is my reaction"

Of course you never did it in Oblivion, they had already taken out the best options. In Morrowind it always looked bada$$ to have different pauldrons, especially on the bonemould armors which had different regional styles. And it allowed them to make more armors that didn't need complete sets, such as Imperial Silver cuirass, just pop some steel or ebony pads on there and you're set.

^this. People always moan about immersion, and if you ask me I don't think an ancient dragon-slaying warrior would wear iron boots, daedric gloves, a steel helm, and a various assortmant of other armour styles.

Don't you mean Fallout with magic? :D

Yeah more simplifing and streamlining. I am a bit worried because of the dumbing down. I remember having great times in Diablo, Baulders Gate games and others, when you find certian magic item armours and what not. So now there is less to look for in Skyrim. I loved how we could customize our characters with different stuff, like in Daggerfall or Morrowind, and even Arena I would have Heavy, medium and light armour to mkae a cool distinct look. I guess those days are gone.

Oh well, this is no shock.

But I have to agree with the quote. It is Fallout since Fallout was just one piece clothes. So it does seem Skyrim is becoming more Fallout than TES.

I guess it doesn't matter since it will still be a fun game to play.

In response to them "dumbing" it down, armor put together has been around for a long time, the earliest game I can think of is the first Fallout, you got the whole set in one piece, helmet and all
