The thing is...this is just a drop in the bucket. Nobody can do what Bethesda can with an open world game. Some come close (Gothic, Two Worlds) but each has their own problems which are ultimately greater.
But here's the rub. When Bethesda continues to "streamline" and "make accessible," it becomes easier and easier for those and other rivals to compete. And it opens up the possibility that one day, a gaming company will make a game that is "better" at being an "Elder Scrolls style game" then Bethesda themselves. At that point, the only thing making ES better than it's competitors will be it's prettiness. And I don't buy games because they're pretty.
"Bummer but if I'm hoenst I NEVER mixed and matched armors in OB anyway since the combos looked terrible so "Oh well" is my reaction"
Of course you never did it in Oblivion, they had already taken out the best options. In Morrowind it always looked bada$$ to have different pauldrons, especially on the bonemould armors which had different regional styles. And it allowed them to make more armors that didn't need complete sets, such as Imperial Silver cuirass, just pop some steel or ebony pads on there and you're set.
