SO are you still buying Skyrim?

Post » Fri Jun 17, 2011 10:52 am

Well, I've just read through every single post on this particular thread and I'm not seeing any solid info on a confirmation (from BGS) on cuirass and greaves being merged. I'm seeing a lot of assumptions from people but if there is solid info and someone can point it out to me, I'll check it out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic6dKnv3WdU - I don't see any type of leggings on the Elven Armor at 3:52 in this video. Now, it's also not showing the other Elven armor pieces in the "Elven Armor" selection, which leads me to believe that the term Elven Armor does not stand for the complete set of Elven Armor, otherwise you'd see what the player currently owns of the whole set ( boots/gauntlets/helmet) displayed as well. That being said, I still don't see any leggings or greaves attached to the armor so one could also assume that they have renamed cuirass to armor, or perhaps they have several different labels, like briastplate, chestplate, cuirass, armor, etc. for different types of torso-covering armors. The boots don't have leggings attached to them either, so where is the leg protection? Just because it isn't in the inventory list in the demo doesn't mean we should assume that greaves or leg protection of some sort are not in the game.

I don't think we should get all worked up about this until BGS gives us a definitive answer on it. There are many factors, Smithing being the main one, to take into account before we bash BGS for re-working their apparel system.

Since we're making assumptions, let's assume something positive and say maybe they are working on making it so you can wear basic clothing underneath your armor. maybe you can wear robes, cloaks, or capes over your armor, which in turn will be over your basic clothing. All this could be for Enchantment Stacking purposes.

See what I did there? I made some positive assumptions about this whole situation, but at the end of the day, we're all still just assuming things without any real facts. We don't know what armor customizations are going to be in the game because they haven't told us yet.

To the OP's point though, even if torso and leg armor does end up being combined, it's not going to stop me from buying this game on day one.

I think everyone needs to chill out for a moment...

Todd said there are 3 main guild.
We'll have to wait for more info on the "minor" guilds.

No, Todd said 3 guilds for the main archetypes. Cheng hinted quite a bit along with hints from Todd that the Dark brotherhood is in but we will have to wait fro information on the possible other factions/guilds.

I'll still get it, because even in Morrowind I still did my best to wear a full set of the same armor. In Oblivion there is only one set I never bothered getting greaves for and that was iron greaves. Looked stupid.

How hard could it be to mod in separate armor pieces? Yes it might even require all new clothing for all NPCs, but modders have gone this far to have clothing for body replacers so why not separate the armor and then pauldrons can be brought in at the same time.

Reducing armor is right up there with a lack of spears of how sad you are for throwing a game away.

There is a kind of ridiculous whining on this thread that has to stop.
It is this kind of unthinking overzealous fundamentalism that gives internet forums a bad name.

Why dont you try formulating an opinion instead of just attacking with all the wit and and grace of a five year old?

People are entitled to formulate an opinion without being bashed by the very devoted fan crowd.
People have a right to critique aspects they are unhappy with without being dragged to the pyre at the town square.

Yes, I am unhappy with a lot of the streamlining and removal of features I see in Skyrim.
Does that mean that there is any reason for this relentless bashing?

For shame.

I think fans are just upset because so many people don't give enough appreciation and credit to a already hard pressed team like Bethesda that spends almost ALL of there money and time to make a game that is both fun and accessible to everyone.

So if that means merging the greaves and chest plate and adding custom smithing jobs, than so be it.

And also this isn't exactly an over zealous forum if you want to see that go to the MW2 forums and post MW2 svckS!

Lol you'll get quite the Zeal from fans out of that. :celebration:

No, imz serious me wants 17 armor pieces!!!11!!eleven!!

Actually, if I'd design an "armour coverage" system, I'd probably go with roughly:

* Foot soles (x2)
* Toes (x2)
* Feet (x2)
* Ankles (x2)
* Shins (x2)
* Knees (x2)
* Thighs (x2)
* Hips
* Genital area
* Buttocks
* Abdomen
* Chest
* Lower back
* Upper back
* Tail base
* Upper tail
* Lower tail
* Shoulders (x2)
* Upper arms (x2)
* Elbows (x2)
* Forearms (x2)
* Wrists (x2)
* Palms (x2)
* Hands (x2)
* Fingers (x2)
* Thumbs (x2)
* Throat
* Neck
* Chin
* Mouth/Lips
* Nose
* Cheeks (x2)
* Eyes (x2)
* Forehead
* Ears (x2)
* Skullcap
* Skull back

That's 55 different body zones (52 for creatures without a tail), with different effects depending on which get hit, as well as with different cultural norms about which parts are allowed to be shown in public, and to which occasions.

Since I couldn't get out of the starter dungeon in Daggerfall, I'd say "dumbing it down" was a bit necessary.

TES V : Skyrim will feature endless customisation, reams of stats, a unique top down view featuring the latest in sprite technology, and an amazingly tactical 'turn based' combat system. :tongue:

Lol, Im sure 99% of the people that say they won't buy the game over this issue, actually end up buying it anyway.

Besides, is this officially confirmed? I don;t care much, but it's good to differentiate between fact and rumour.

The thread is not stupid. I am not true to the series. I will buy Skyrim as soon as it comes out. In spite of some potential negatives, I am nearly blind with anticipation! :bonk:

3. Soultrapping is out.

How would we enchant anything then?

Yet another misinformed individual making something out of nothing. We were told before Oblivion was released that the AI shown at E3 was scaled back. No one was duped. On top of that they explained in great detail why this had to be done in The Making of Oblivion. As punishment for your insolence may all your friends and family throw every instance of your actions being dictated by the world around you in your face every chance they get.

Soultrapping was a pain anyway. Especially with the clunky vast system. I'm sure they replaced it with something better, or maybe just done away with charges. I don't mind either way.

To people saying no can i ask why the whole vastness of the game will be ignored by you because of something so minuscule like armour?

Vastness of the game? The only thing vast about The Elder Scrolls, since Todd Howard took over as lead, is the amount of features that have been removed from the game. Daggerfall was epic. Random quests, multiple languages to learn, climbing, several forms of shapechanging (ie werewolves, vampires, etc) an entire continent to explore, deep guild involvement, Horses, carts, ships and tons of houses available to buy.

With Morrowind we got one part of one province instead of a continent. We lost languages and climbing, lost all forms of shapechanging except vampirism (and lycanthropy by expansion). Guilds got trimmed down, Horses, carts and useable ships got removed, and we lost a lot of customization. In spite of all this Morrowind still turned out to be a pretty good game because it retained some sense of adventure and exploration.

Then there was Oblvion. An utter piece of fail whose only redeeming quality was its (at the time) posh graphics, and physics engine (best demonstrated by improvements in combat). It's AI was about as radiant as a moss covered turd. We lost levitation (but hey we got horses back) :shakehead: Guilds were about as interesting as a silent movie, and the open ended sense of exploration and adventure was gutted via :down: level scaling. :down:

Now, what do we know about Skyrim? Level scaling, though somewhat toned down, still exists for dungeons (I don't know about items). Levitation is still out. We are losing spell making as an option. And now we lose more equipment customization options.

I'm running out of steam so I'm gonna wrap this up...
We have lost so much over the course of the last three games, and gained so little. Todd Howard's Bethesda has done nothing to earn my loyalty. Dumbing down the elderscrolls has burned up any good will Bethesda banked with Arena and Daggerfall. Therefore, barring the unexpected, and in light of the plethora of good games being released this year, I will not be purchasing Skyrim when it is released. If I play through everything else, and/or I like the things I hear about Skyrim after it is released then I may take one last chance on Bethesda.

A parting shot...
You know what I don't get? I don't get people who are so blinded by their FAN ... BOY status that they can't see everything the Elderscrolls isn't.
