SO are you still buying Skyrim?

Post » Fri Jun 17, 2011 11:32 pm

The armor being combined isn't even a problem to me, there are other flaws that I don't like.

However, I'll still buy the game and hope I can somehow Role Play while the game holds my hand and leads.

Perhaps the first picture is weak armour he got at the start and maybe he upgraded it through smithing.
Just a thought.

If thats the case then Skyrim will be superior to any other TES in terms of customization.

Vastness of the game? The only thing vast about The Elder Scrolls, since Todd Howard took over as lead, is the amount of features that have been removed from the game. Daggerfall was epic. Random quests, multiple languages to learn, climbing, several forms of shapechanging (ie werewolves, vampires, etc) an entire continent to explore, deep guild involvement, Horses, carts, ships and tons of houses available to buy.

With Morrowind we got one part of one province instead of a continent. We lost languages and climbing, lost all forms of shapechanging except vampirism (and lycanthropy by expansion). Guilds got trimmed down, Horses, carts and useable ships got removed, and we lost a lot of customization. In spite of all this Morrowind still turned out to be a pretty good game because it retained some sense of adventure and exploration.

Then there was Oblvion. An utter piece of fail whose only redeeming quality was its (at the time) posh graphics, and physics engine (best demonstrated by improvements in combat). It's AI was about as radiant as a moss covered turd. We lost levitation (but hey we got horses back) :shakehead: Guilds were about as interesting as a silent movie, and the open ended sense of exploration and adventure was gutted via  level scaling.

Now, what do we know about Skyrim? Level scaling, though somewhat toned down, still exists for dungeons (I don't know about items). Levitation is still out. We are losing spell making as an option. And now we lose more equipment customization options.

I'm running out of steam so I'm gonna wrap this up...
We have lost so much over the course of the last three games, and gained so little. Todd Howard's Bethesda has done nothing to earn my loyalty. Dumbing down the elderscrolls has burned up any good will Bethesda banked with Arena and Daggerfall. Therefore, barring the unexpected, and in light of the plethora of good games being released this year, I will not be purchasing Skyrim when it is released. If I play through everything else, and/or I like the things I hear about Skyrim after it is released then I may take one last chance on Bethesda.

A parting shot...
You know what I don't get? I don't get people who are so blinded by their devoted fan status that they can't see everything the Elderscrolls isn't.

You can't compare an early game like Daggerfall to a modern game.

Im not saying I wouldn;t want it to happen. I;m just saying you have unreasonable expectations with an unfair comparison.

I'm still buying Skyrim, but taking out more character customization I'm not too fond of, I like some of the other changes, but now it feels like they're dumbing down the game a tiny bit, Morrowind's armor system was great, and I felt Oblivion's was good considering most games had combined gloves and etc. anyway, but removing pants was a step too far imo.

Wow to the 30+ people that said 'No', what the heck do you play? I can't think of any game that has the kind of armor customization as the TES games even with the Skyrim changes. Seriously, what are you going to play?

The only thing that would stop me from buying it is Bethesda giving me a free copy. Or my untimely demise. I'd rather it be the free copy thing though.

The Merged Armor issue is minor for me . . . many of the the other things about Skyrim have made me decide not to pre-order the game.

The E3 demo reinforced my previous concerns . . . and I was really hoping that wouldn't happen. I'm nearly certain that the main focus in creating Skyrim has been on combat, and on streamlining the rest of the game around combat . . . where every player will be a warrior/mage/thief . . . with no character limitations. That's a HUGE issue for me.

I'm rather puzzled by this viewpoint, the fact that we have 280+ perks upgrades included, and we are only able to pick 50 of them, is a huge character limitation, no character limitation would actually be the former games, since you could achieve the same level of power in everything, you only had to play long enough. With skyrim all the power will be in the perks you take, meaning two maxed out character can be completely different. The TES series is a combat rpg, of course combat is gonna be centered.

And the presence of Oblivion's Fast Travel, and of the Fast Level (along with the rapid skill advancing Perk rewards) leads me to believe that the game is more focused on fast paced gameplay than on in-depth gameplay.

Oblivion fast travel is really just fast travel, because it was in baldur's gate, arcanum, daggerfall, the ability to instantly travel has always been around. The speed of level up is because you define your character through your levels. This is of course also balanced, it's gonna be fast in the beginning to get your character defined, and just like any other rpg, it's gonna slow down and drag out as the game progresses.

I don't think it is unfair to expect a game released with today's technology to have features that rival a game made in the 90's. The Elderscrolls should be progressing, not taking steps back.

We are still going to purchase this game, but I missed E3, so didn't know about this,...ahem,...downgrade to armor options. It does seem a bit sad to lose the armor combo mix thingy, but I love TES series and have enjoyed every installment, in its own right. I think my daughter and I, will love Skyrim just as much ;)

A 10% loss of equipment slots is not that big of a deal, esp since Todd said there are more armors overall and the crafting system, allowing you to make your own/upgrade armors.

Of course I'm still buying Skyrim..... I'm buying anything that says TES on it. I trust BGS at this point... Does it svck that they took out some customization with armor? Yes. That isn't going to stop me from playing one of the best games of all time.

I think whoever voted no on this poll is either new here, or bitter about it and will forget about the armor deal as soon as Skyrim comes out. When nitpicking is the biggest complaint you can make about a game, you know they're doing something right.

I think this is stupid if a person doesn't buy Skyrim for such a small thing as armour then their not a true skyrim fan in my opinion.

Honestly can you name one game that has come out resently that has all those in it? I loved Daggerfall, loved the houses (and a bank), armor, cart, ect. But could you image what it would take to make a game with all of that and use what is expected in todays graphics? It just isn't possible. So the next option is to keep the graphics where they need to be on current levels and keep what you can that makes these games great. I mean of course we want it all, but I will take what I can, and then mod in what I miss if possible.

Who wants to bet they will buy the game anyway...

I can't understand that having one less armor slot is a deal breaker. Its not like Skyrim is a game about choosing clothes for your dragonborn

Pfft. Armor. Yes I'd prefer it if they kept Oblivion's number of armor pieces, or gone back to Morrowind's even, but it's hardly game breaking.

I'm in it for the large explorable world and the mods anyway, and we're definitely getting those.

Same really.

We are likely to get mods that split greaves/cuirass anyway. So if it bothered me I just make/DL one of those.

Still 100% going to get it, it's such a small feature to ever put me off such an epic game.
That's disregarding the fact that mods will most likely be able to change it anyway.
Sorted.

Ofcourse I am, no amount of [censored]ing and moaning will put me off. It actually offends me that one of my favourite developers have created this astounding looking game and people are getting up in arms about the lack of armour customisation. But I don't really mind, considering that the game isn't being made for me in mind and Bethesda have included alot more in the way of character customisation. I'd happily trade in my seperate armour pieces for beards, Tattoos and scars etc etc any day.

This armour travesty is just one of many things that will stop me from buying Skyrim, among them weightless carrots, no playable Sload, totally unrealistic dragons, no Dwemer steam trains, and the inexcusable lack of armoured dinosaur mounts.

Get it together, Bethesda.

Weightless carrots? Well, thats the final straw - count me out too.

The armor system does not bother me.

(Although, I was not set on on buying the game, even before that was mentioned.)

Lack of meaningful stats, classes, and the new reliance on perks bothers me far more than anything else that I've seen about it.

I don't think that anything short of them making all the people in the game small pink horses will stop me from buying this game...

Wow 34 people have decided not to buy Skyrim because of this?

Or are they just mad and likely to change their minds on 11.11.11?
