Are you a typical "gamer"?

Post » Thu Dec 17, 2015 10:42 pm

Pew Research did a survey on "gaming and gamers" among 2000 people, regarding how gamers' attitudes to gaming differ from others'.

MIght be of some interest to those who want stats on sociology of gaming, though the results are probably what you would expect.

I've always found these threads more fun to read if you think of "gamer" as "gay Mer".

Is there a gay NPC in all of Elder Scrolls? Nazeem's wife seemed to have her suspicions.

I have never really considered myself a "gamer", per se, let alone a "typical gamer." "Gamer" to me implies getting into the workings of games and figuring out every little nuance for "most efficient play time." I look to video to waste time :D

I never really understood what "gamer" meant, tbh. Like, I play video games, I guess? So do most of my siblings. It's just a thing. I guess I'm in the 38%.

Several, but up until ESO most of them either died or are dead.

I consider myself to be a "gamer." But I do not consider myself to be a "hardcoe gamer." I doubt that I am a "typical gamer" either. Actually, I don't care much for labels. I think labels are often a symptom of lazy thinking. I just play games.

That was a very interesting article. Thanks for linking to it.

I'm not American, which automatically disqualifies me as a typical American gamer.

I play games. What label I have in the eyes of others is of no concern to me :)

I do actually describe myself as a gamer, which I kind of think of as a mark of pride... and I have the typical positive attitudes to gaming that go along with that according to the survey. I went back home and visited an old friend, and I beat him at his favorite game that I had never played before, and when he got kind of annoyed I said "I'm a gamer man"... I mean we were both wasted... I guess I meant I had generalized gaming skills that let me pick up the gameplay quickly.

I would have to concur with the 2 quotes for myself. I just like video games, always have.

I joke with my friends kids that I corrupted their parts and turned them into gamers. Neither played video games until they saw me playing. (After I had moved in with them for a time.) I get a kick out of watching my friend (mom) playing Fallout 4. She's gotten pretty good for someone who didn't start gaming until her 40's. She picked it up quick.
