Area 51...?

Post » Fri Jul 08, 2011 3:02 am

Im curious. How is it that you create and released a video game based in the Nevada desert without actually including Area 51? Obviously you have the Las Vegas strip, but why on God's earth would you not include Area 51? It truly makes no sense and is, in my personal oppinion, something that this team made a huge mistake on. Are you really going to tell me that nobody on the team working to create this game and/or the dlc didnt step forwards and say "hey were kinda in the nevada dessert here and since fallout 3 had aliens wouldnt Area 51 be logical?".... nobody over there said this?

Bethesda/Obsidian if your people over there do not understand what would interest a gamer, please by all means fire somebody and hire a true gamer that can explain to you what and what would not be worth including in your product.

1) This is primarily a gamer forum. You're going to be waiting a while for a dev to wander in.

2)They decided that Area 51 was outside the scope of New Vegas. It's distance made it too far out.

3)Old World Blues which is set at Big MT will fill all the roles Area 51 would have done. Except they won't feel obliged to have Aliens everywhere.

4)Having Area 51, just because it's 'near' Vegas is such a poor arguement. Otherwise it'd be featured in CSI more (It's been in one episode and then only mentioned, never seen)

5)Plenty of gamers here aren't interested in having Area 51.

edit: 6:) Having glanced through your post history, well, calling them morons in previous topics and then this aggressive post, somehow I don't think they'd listen.

Yes, but Utah is not too far for some reason.

Sure, but a majority? Lets take a poll.

Even leaving aside the geography involved, that ground has already been fully covered by Mothership Zeta. If you want more, that's what the mod community is for.

Ok I see, so the reason is, "we've been there, done that." Fair enough.

For the main game yes. DLC are obviously different.

I didn't say the majority, just plenty. If we took a poll, we may see a half and half split or one side favoring the other. Polls aren't exactly reliable anyway, you'd see different results depending on time of day and all that.

I'd seen the Ops name before and out curiosity looked. Usually useful as sometimes they've asked before and think that reposting might elicit a different response from the previous time.

Also I was bored.

Pretty much. Each of the four DLCs for New Vegas is very different from both the base game and each other. Area 51 would have just been more aliens. Plus the Big MT is much more creative and original. We think you'll like that more.

Im very curious as to what the "greater threat" is going to be.

I was just thinking the same thing. But yea, since we already had MZ, OWB's story will be fresh and probobly a better DLC because of it.

The devs probably think an Area 51 area would be cheesy. Why waste time on something everyone else has already done before when you can spend that time doing something else. It's called innovation.

Does this look like an Alien to anybody..

What is that? Im doubting it is an Alien because it looks too much like some one in the Space Suit you get during the "Come Fly With Me" side quest.

I am so glad that somebody from Bethesda and not Obsidian said this and I hope that this opinion reflects that of Bethesda in general in regards to alien content in future Fallout games.

There are 3 mods with Area 51 in Nexus. Each mods are different story and wasn't so bad.

But honestly, I don't like Alien stuffs.

Since that's the case, there's also no proof of anyone wanting an Area 51 DLC.

Well seeing as "plenty" can be taken as a varying number of people, but is not the same as "most", I don't understand why you even said that. Besides, I would be more surprised to see that the majority of people actually explicitly want an Area 51 DLC.

So you can send people to Pittsburgh from Washington DC but not to Area 51 from the strip? I dont understand the argument. As for "its been done before" well yeah so have super mutants, ghouls, dogs... etc. etc. Just because something has been done before doesnt mean it shouldnt be included in future projects. Like it or not the aliens obviously exist in the Fallout universe. Why not expand on them further?

I just see it as a missed opportunity to let players get away from all the ...I dont know, sand? Im not exactly a Fallout walking wiki here, possibly it would go against some magical lore? But when I think of Nevada I think of Las Vegas and Area 51.
