That's the game protection. Look in your 'Arena' folder for a 'Docs folder, all the answers will be in there.

At least those copy protections didn't put spy ware on our computers or other intrusive programs or slow our computers down. All these new copy protection programs treat us legitamate buyers as if we were criminals and people who downloaded the game illigally playing the game without any troubles at all.

"Out of This World" had a large disk with abstract pictures on it, plus a slightly smaller disk riveted to the top of it with abstract pictures on it as well plus a hole in one spot instead of a picture. The game would show you two pictures and would give you a multiple-choice selection of the proper response picture. So you'd take the disks, line up the two pictures the game showed you, and note the picture on the larger disk revealed by the hole of the smaller top disk. Then you'd select that picture in the game and off you'd go.

I wonder how much that security cost.

Well it seems to have been effective in this occasion, so I'd say not very far. :P

yeah i heard EA has been doing that [censored].

Steam has the best copy protection which is basically "if you dont buy the game, you dont get the online multiplayer, the free updates or user generated content and if you find some what to hack it onto steam, well just [censored] ban you" it works a lot better because it actually rewards you for buying the game, whereas EA punishes you for it.

I don't think Steam is very good either. You still have to go online and activate your single player games, not much unlike the EA fiasco last year with Mass Effect and Spore.

Online activations for single player games svcks, no matter if it's Valve, EA, 2K Games or someone else.

http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/publishingservices.php, in the general scheme of things. Aside from when your internet connection flakes out, the integration with its games is seamless and it's not a very cumbersome program either. I could understand someone who only buys, say, Half-Life 2 may be a bit irked by it, but if you're an avid Valve fan like myself and have a ton of stuff tied to your account, it's quite the blessing. :D
