Arena install problems

Post » Thu May 20, 2010 7:18 am

Well I have the CD version of Arena and I'm trying to install it on Vista. Now I didn't have any problems with Daggerfall and I've looked through the instructions in the UESP but it wont run.

heres what happens... I follow the directions on the "How to Install Arena" in UESP It opens up and I have to choose the sound and music card. I do so. Next I notice the "Install" button is grayed out and I cant select it, so I click done and exit out. It tells me that to run the game I need to type ARENA after C:\ARENA_CD so I do. Then it waits a second and I get this message in DOSbox.

MSCDEX Driver not installed.
F:\>

and there you go... I'm not sure how to fix this or what it even means, I didn't find any answers on the UESP, please if anyone can help me I'd be really thankful.

EDIT: I also tried to copy the CD onto my C drive and install through there but the install button is still grayed out and when I try to run it now it just says "Illegal command: ACD" where it used to say MSCDEX Driver not installed. F:\>

I used to get that. I never figured out how to fix it, so instead I made an .iso of the CD, put it in the already-mounted DOSBox directory, and then mounted the CD drive (I used D, I think that's what Arena assumes it to be) with the .iso using the following command:

imgmount D "C:\ARENAD~1.iso" -t iso

eBay or similar, I guess? The CD-version has voice-acting, more cut-scenes, and better graphics if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, yes (just barely, it has a Daggerfall-style book pan in the intro added in), and yes (if you count Uriel Septim getting a less hideous lip sync).

My version of Arena came in my Daggerfall box (along with books etc.) so it might also have been acquired that way. Also bargain bins in older stores might also have the boxed Arena CD version.
