Arena mobile - good idea

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 6:38 pm

Hello, I'm from Czech republic and in our unofficial TES forum arose interesting idea: bethesda should create old chapters of TES for mobile (graphic same as on PC, race, professions and all game system same as on PC). The TES Travels Stormhold and Dawnstar not be good, at first time I was enoyed the game, but after short time the game don't inspirted and amused me. What are you say this idea.

I apology for bad English... :embarrass:

This has been suggested many a times.
The answer sounds like this: "It would be impossible to port. They said they were done with previous games. A mobile phone couldn't handle it. Not enough buttons!" and so forth.

Mobile phone versions of Arena and Daggerfall would be lovely :)

Unfortunately, it won't happen. But it's certainly possible, heck I'm even playing Arena on my mobile phone thanks to a mobile phone version of DOSBox, but it's a bit slow cause the phone CPU is bit too weak to emulate a DOS PC properly.

The answer to a re-release of Daggerfall was also said to be impossible. Look what happened there.

I have no phone, so it wouldn't matter to me personally, but I still think it would be a great idea. And what's this crap about not enough buttons? My cousin's phone has an entire keyboard on it. If the original worked with a keyboard and mouse, why wouldn't a phone remake?

I have part 1 for DS, does part 2 move like part 1 (move only south, west, north and east) or the TES games(any direct)? Not to many videos.

Here is a first person RPG (move in any direction), was mentioned here before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZRjcQwQrU0

I think porting old DOS games to modern mobile devices would be very difficult. It would probably be easier to develop a new game from the ground up, although they could always remake one of these games or make a game in the style of Arena or Daggerfall.

Well, this is what Orcs & Elves II looks like on my old Nokia 6085: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQb0a_J2NcQ

I think creating a game with the same look and feel would certainly be possible. Not sure about the size and scope though. Definitely worth playing though. Ravensword did this on the iPhone, and although not a full RPG it did capture an Elder Scrolls "look". The market's fairly crowded on the App store. Perhaps the returns are not worth the risk? I think a small team of 3-4 people could create a very nice small game in less than 6 months. Small investment, but chance of big payback, and also a presence on that platform.

The same argument could be used for DS too.
