Arena CD version - Fast travelling kills my character

Post » Sun Apr 18, 2010 12:10 am

Whenever I try to fast travel my character dies. The character does not have any disease or anything, it doesn't matter what I have in my inventory, whether or not I've got my weapon readied, etc. No matter what happens the character dies for no reason. I can however fast travel to the town I'm already in. I tried creating a new pretty much identical character, which had no problems fast traveling whatsoever.

In case a similar topic has been posted before, the search engine must be improved, because I searched countless times, with countless different keywords both here and on Google without getting anything similar.

That's what I thought as well. I even managed to rest at a tavern for a few hours without any problem.

You sure? Click the status button if you haven't yet to see if you have anything. I wouldn't just rely on the portrait color.

Strange. Are you in the middle of a quest? Some quests spawn enemies when you rest, who knows, maybe the game internally is attacking and killing you with enemies when you travel.

I don't know about Arena, but in Daggerfall diseases had incubation periods, where you had the disease but it didn't show symptoms yet (and thus didn't show as a status). It's possible that a disease is dormant now, but shows and kills you as you travel. Have you tried resting in town for a few days or a week and see if anything shows? Just resting for hours may not cut it.

I've got no quests active, and I tried resting for 20 days, still nothing... I haven't gotten far at all, but I really want to continue on my current character. But I'll just start a new one I guess. In case any of you are interested in trying out the saves, I'll find some place to upload it.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2wxqmmmdtzq I wasn't sure which files was needed, so I just grabbed a bunch that seemed correct.

EDIT:
Packed in .7z format, so you'll need http://www.7-zip.org/.

EDIT2:
Fixed the savegame link.

I tried the second savefile (the one where you were in a town at night, no enemies nearby) and fast travelled with no problems. Which is the savegame in question? FYI, whatever file has the names of the saved games was not included so I'm just loading games titled things like "<9" and "#<@".

Either try reinstalling Arena or I could fast travel to your desired location and send back the save, if you want. That may work.

P.S. For future reference, the files needed for Arena savegames are the files that end in .00, .01, .02, etc. All the .00 files make up the save game at the top slot, .01 files make up the second, etc.

I had problems with every save, though more specifically I guess I was using save nr. 3 or something, all of the saves are of the same character, but I think nr. 3 from the top was the last one. If you look at the file attributes, you should see which one is the latest.
I'll try to reinstall it later, and see what I find out.

EDIT:
Grabbed the saves, deleted the folder with all it's contents, reinstalled, replaced the saves, and nothing...

If you could travel to Rihad and send it back I'd be grateful, just use the city night save.

EDIT2:
Fixed the saves link (same fix as previous post).
