Argonia wip

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:15 pm

As per your PM request the other day I have made those pages of compiled Black Marsh lore i made downloadable again. Everything I could find on Soulrest is located in the geography document, but other then the short Arena description there really isn't any other info on the place. From the little I could tell its a city with high walls and sturdy gates that block out the sounds of the nearby ocean. I think making Soulrest similar in appearance to this http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/10126-1190333969.jpg would be pretty cool.

http://rapidshare.com/files/232925480/Black_Marsh_lore.zip.html

It can only be downloaded 10 times because I'm lazy, so I would like to ask others not to download it until zackg gets his hands on it. Someone else can put it up somewhere for a more permanent download though if they like.

I dont know why so many people would (or why one jackazz would) but its saying its already been downloaded 10 times and I cant get to this.

@Dirnae
Yes I would definately like some creature work done. Ill search the internet for reference pictures and see what I can find and pm you later.

Yea...that is quite annoying. On the bright side i have now uploaded the files to TESNexus because I'm tired of managing temporary links.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24454

Edit: You also need a word program to view the files.

Also, Im working on the Kothringi ruins and its looking good, except the textures are dissappearing when I export it. If anybody will be willing to, Ill upload a model and they could run it through blender for me and tell me what Im doing wrong.

I'll check it out, could you please provide it as a .blend too with the textures? You probably just forgot to add a pipeline.

Absolutely not. I assume youve downloaded a texture pack replacer for the shivering isles then, thats a cgtextures.com stock image from this page I believe http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id=8986&PHPSESSID=f6ff51e17add946dd89e63bee27bedcb

first column, fifth down.

Nope, I swear, there's a texture in SI (maniamoss01) that look EXTREMELY similar to yours, it is a well known fact to me though that there are frequent re-uses of the same stocks everywhere, in the professional industry, in retextures, everywhere, browse though CG textures a bit and you can find stocks that were used in Connary's retextures, or even in OB.

It's why I always modify my uses of stocks a lot to achieve uniquety, of course, that texture of yours is still great, but you can see why it's not unique, it looks so much like that SI texture.

I see, what you are really trying to say is that Bethesda should hire me for texture work then, eh?
If its not unique compared to a oblivion texture Im not too worried about it, two different games and all.

Sure, they should also hire me, Connary, Aliasiagae, Darknut, Plangkye, and everyone else who does great texturing work over here :D . Of course, that ain't gonna happen anytime soon, sad thing that, since our textures are better than theirs, like all the time. :P

=-) This is the base model for the Kothringi Ruins. Its color scheme matches that of the region and will change somewhat with whatever region they are in. Being just the base model, this will have windows, doors, altars, statues, different sizes, shapes, and forms, walls, towers, temples, etc, so this really is an simplified version...but here ya go..

...

Pretty cool shots there zackg, the ruins are coming along well then, glad to help with your exporting problem BTW, when I started modeling I had the same problem myself a long time and found it really frustrating, so I'm glad to rid others of the same issue.

Those trees look pretty good too, did you manage to get the leaf textures to look good, or are they from something else? Because I remember having quite the trouble getting leaf textures to look right.

EDIT: By the way, when searching to find out what these Kogorithi ruins were, I found some cool pages on the Silgrad Tower> Black Marsh forum that may aid you in your travels.

the stock textures aren't bad at all, they can obviously make excellent high quality textures, i mean they are proffesionals, but they have to make something that wont lag the crap out of peoples computers at the time when they create them, and that suits the ideas put forward for the game, if you were working for them you would have been forced to create similar textures

plus their texturers (or character artists as i believe they are called) can also model to a fine degree, and most can even animate too, which is pretty awesome IMO

very nice ruin zackg, are there any architectural styles you took inspiration from when creating this?
maybe you should have a go at making some khajiit relatives from starwarsguy's link, or the argonians from TR's concept art section, as lizards should definately be the focus of argonia

Mhmm the inspiration was slghtly mayan/aztec type stuff, but I dont want to copy them. And after a night of sleeping on it, quite honestly, I want a different base piece...something more unique...

Well, yeah, the lizard/reptilian-type will be the focus of the mod, but even in Morrowind you had the Dwemer, which is kinda what the Kothringi are to Argonia. One of the few human races to have lived and thrived in the Black Marsh but who were wiped out within some 50 year period due to a plague that may or may not have been created by the hist.

a different base piece, you mean a different architectural style to work from? i really can't think of anything you could work from that is amazingly unique, maybe you should choose an architctural style then build from it, and make it unique, the twisting thing on the ruin was cool, maybe you could apply that twisting style to the rest of the architecture

some of the extinct or long gone creatures you could possibly have as a series of undead creatures, you could make ghost and skeleton variations, such as warrior versions, robed versions etc. which the player can catch plagues from
i was actually working on an argonian skeleton which i guess i could finish for this if you want, then make variations on it for the Kothringi race (or you could make the Kotringi version yourself)

I could try to draw a few concepts for architecture if you'd like  , Diablo 2: Act 3 is also a great inspiration.
