Argonia wip

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:53 am

Dunmer raiding from the north and forcing Argonians in the slave market. Blackwood Company actively seeking to kidnap a Hist tree. Argonian leaders secretly selling out on residents. Imperial attempts at commercialization all to waste. Swamps so poisionous, they kill you just to be there. Quicksand, mud rivers, and marshes. Creatures lurking in the tall grass. Ancient ruins of the Kothringi, Ayleids, Orma and Marsh Elves. Naga roadraiders intercepting trade goods. If this interests you, then welcome to Argonia. A mod that plans to bring the Tamriel province to life.

The first area scheduled for release is known as the Greenway Coast. Beginning in the north, from the southern tip of where Cyrodiil and Argonia connect, to the southern border of the Black Marsh, the Greenway Coast encompasses the dark, theif and pirate ridden city of Soulrest. Most its residents float on boat homes that are used for fishing, Soulrests main legal source of income. As with nearly all Argonia settlements, the economic scale is far from balanced, with an extreme few being rich, and an extrmely large, destitute. These conditions have made the citizens bitter with jealousy, quick to make a coward a corpse, and their possesions their keep. Trading here? Enjoy bartering, the only merchants with any septims worth mentioning are those who work for the local Imperials, people who would rather wait til you try to trade, see your goods, refuse service, and rob you in our sleep. To the north, twisted deserted Kothringi Ruins and the gorgeous twin Lighthouses of Ogadi. A small fishing village lets you see firsthand the way tribal Argonians live. The land...feels more like a sea, with clumps of dirt thrown into it. A few trees, tall thin, and wide at the tops dot the landscape, with ferns and grasses sprouting near everywhere. A certain plant makes the Greenway Coast home, a certain hungry plant...

Good luck with this dude, I always thought the Black Marsh would be an awsome map expansion, but it seemed too ambitious for modders to create the entire region. However, even the just the northern areas would be worth downloading/playing.

Man, a completed Argonia in combination with a completed TR would immortalize Morrowind in modding and gaming history. Hopefully you get the support/resources you need to make it possible.

will you be basing any of this on the black marsh books? sorry i cant remember their names, but its main character is Scotty D... somthing. like in the book it mentions the fastest way of travel is (was kinda confusing to me so i might be wrong) dropping into a hole, that has some kinda of creature that you basicly, get swallowed by, then when you have reached close to your location, you jump out at the next hole. that'd be awsome

I like the textures and landscaping!

I hope you don't mind me giving a bit of advice - try to focus on a small part on the map. As the modding community has become smaller, it is very difficult for new projects to attract the numbers of people necessary for the completion of large, intricately detailed landmasses.

Best of luck with this project! :-)

The Argonian Account is the title i believe, and yes that is where most of the information comes from. However, pretending that Tamriel is a real place, if you were there and picked up this book it would seem like it was written for the purposes of entertaining the reader, not for the purpose of informing. Therefore, not everything will be constricted to whats in that book.

Traveling that way will be in the game, but it will be a lot like using the silt strider in that you dont see yourself physically traveling. There will also be no way to use this means of travel to head north, as you can only swim with the "current".

Argonia is being done piece by piece, one of the screenshot shows the map and you'll see its just a small portion (About 1/10 of the maps size, and #1 of 23 different sections.

Thanks for the support!

yeah, the argonian account, thats right! awsome! even if its not animated N stuff, still awsome, cause then eventualy, after the release of this, sombody could animate it and make basicly a little movie out of it. if you give them your permission that is.

Well, I'd suggest you make some if not all plants to have ingredients with poison as first effect. It'd go with the Lore of Argonians becoming immune to poison due to adaptation. And there should also be loads of water for Argonians to practice their Water breath in.

I have a suggestion. If you are going to make Argonian houses, you should collaborate with the TR team for the southern part of map 6, that way, we might have some cool Argonian houses in the south of Morrowind (though I doubt house Dres would be very happy about it). Also, if TR ever does get around to making Dres houses, you might be able to use those, though, for the time being (and the foreseeable future) they are just using Velothi architecture. This would mean that Morrowind and Argonia would have a kind of disputed border, but I think it would add to the realism.

Anyways, this sounds pretty neat, and I can't wait to see what kind of progress you will make in the next couple of months. I hope you can get some additional people working on this, so perhaps Mr. Swiveller's advice should be heeded. Make a small area, and be very thorough, and use it as a kind of showcase to attract more modders (slaves).

Good luck!

Wait, are you going to work with anyone else? Cause I'd be delighted to help such a project! I'd join TR, but it's rather big... and busy. If you get me.

As of right now, no Im not looking for anybody to help (outside of modellers).

I want to further establish the feeling Im trying to capture in what Ive done so far, so that when I do ask for help, people can see what I am aiming for.

So, later on, in a month or two, Im sure Ill need the help and you will be more than welcome to assist.

Hmm, you wouldn't be needing any texture work done though would you? I could do that...

As of now I'd only be interested in ground textures, re-textured rocks, swamps, and that sort of thing. But if you want to begin retexturing tapestries, furn, and that sort of thing with an argonia-type- fashion, then send em to me you can. But I wouldnt use those for a while.

That last shot is SURREAL! I'm gonna have to beg someone for a computer upgrade, I want to play that! ^^

The best apart is the trees being all crooked, it looks a little insane and very jungly, which is the sense I always got of Argonia.

I can provide tiling ground textures: tell me what you need, I'll see what I can make. I can also make wood/bark textures for the trees but I'll need you to find some photos for me to go off of.

Might need a new tree mesh as the base of the tree would start out at an angle, but it will shortly straighten to be as vertical as possible.

The last screen is awesome. I can already tell this mod will have some to do die for landscaping in it. Looking forward to watching the progress of this.

I created some lore references for a now dead Argonia project from a while back-of the majority of important lore information I was able to locate and gather together. There are 3 I managed to finish. One about Argonia's history, one about its inhabitants, and another about its geography. The 4th that I haven't finished is about Argonia's economy.

Again if your interested I can post a link up to download them from. They were intended to make it easier for the modders, so they wouldn't have to go on a mad search for lore material to draw inspiration from.

Id really appreciate that actually. Right now, as I'm doing alot of planning, I could use all the lore information I can get my hands on. Thanks in advance.

Ill get back to you on this later when I find some pictures. I cant really go outside and take pictures, seeing as in Wisconsin we have plenty of Oak and Pine, but not a single tropical-type texture. Thanks much.

Alright. ^^ Do you also wanna have the Hist, possibly playable? I've got an idea involving Better Bodies and Spriggans. >> I even know how to make the long ridiculous fingers work! Get back to me on that too. ^^

Im sorry but I am completely against having the Hist as a playable race. I once read a report on Stephen King as he talked about how to make a monster. He said that the longer the reader (in our case, the player) had to wait to see them, the more scary the monster was. For us, our monster is actually a fairly passive tree creature, The Hist, and arent intended to seem scary, but sacred and secretive. If the player starts their game in Seyda Neen as a Hist then the luster is gone, curiousity left unsatisified, and the mod itself suffers. Instead, I had an idea that I believe would completely keep the mystique feel of the Hist, smach the viewers thought of who and what the Hist is, and stays completely in with lore. It also has, in my opinion, a very deep double meaning. Heck, Im kinda impressed with myself hehe. I dont want to say it here as that would be the equivalent of telling you Alamexia killed Sotha Sil before you open Tribunal, so I'll just say that my stance on the Hist is built upon the belief of one saying:

Perception is reality. ;)

I decided to include the 4th paper about the economy as well. The only reason I never finished it was because I couldn't find enough information for it to be worth it, but some of what I did manage to find is actually quite interesting. There's also no info about the Empire in the paper...I figured their economy should be rather obvious by now.

http://rapidshare.com/files/156693344/Black_Marsh_Lore.zip.html- All 4 papers are contained within the download. You'll need a word program to see them-if you don't have a version of it I can make them notepad doc's tomorrow and then post a link to download them in that form.

The Hist would be HORRIFYING indeed if they were monsters then. I also think of them more as sacred and secretive though, not monstrous.

Oops, was copying a slightly updated version of the History paper over the old one and it didn't copy over what was there-instead adding it above it. I updated the link above with a download that has it without the history paper repeating itself after a certain point, so its a lot shorter now. Its not a big problem, just felt it was worth mentioning that's why it was so big.

It will be a complete repeat once you see Merethic Era a 2nd time, so you can just delete everything down from there if you don't feel like d/ling the new pack.

This is very helpful, thank you!!!

Sure, no problem. Personally, I'm just glad to finally see these getting some use instead of growing dust on my hard drive.
