Argonian and Kahjitts

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 4:56 pm

In Morrowind Argonians and Khajitts looked like beast folk. Their body's were shaped differently and they couldn't fit in Helmets or boots, they seemed more lizard-like and cat-like. In Oblivion they became more humanoid. I personally didn't like the change. I want them to change back to being more cat-like or lizard-like.

Any thoughts?

We haven't seen any pictures of the beast races yet so we can only hope...

I also like the morrowind style just for the individuality of the races and I would like to see them go back to that as long as they don't walk like they did in morrowind :P

Well if they will not have bent legs they can still have more beastial features like paws thats show if footwear removed, claws, whiskers, spikes and ridges, some animation tweaks for hand-to-hand or swimming, better animated tails.

I know what you mean, Oblivion seemed to have removed a lot of the big cosmetic differences between the races

Morrowind is actually the odd game out.

In Arena, Daggerfall, and Oblivion, they were human-like.

Morrowind was the only game where they were beast-like.

I think in Arena and daggerfall they were the ohmes or ohmes-raht variety that were basically just elves in morrowind we see the suthay-raht.

Any thoughts?

This thread has been made 10000 times.

We haven't seen anything solid yet for Skyrim, but it seems like most of want more beast-like Args/Khaj again. Not necessarily like MW, but more unique than OB.

What won't be a good idea is make them unable to wear footwear and helmets.

Based on how the beast races look in the previous games, they are going to look totally different in Skyrim.

Those races wouldn't just do without gloves shoes and helmets, and I don't see full assets for each race even tho it would be nice. So i Vote No on bare feet in icy skyrim. Humanoid models with different face hands feet and leg sculpt with armour that just morphs slightly to fit will probably be what we get. A little bit of me still holds out of unique beast armour but it would kinda make it harder as most gear wouldn't fit...so likely a 'no' alround.

I'd like for them to be more unique, like in Morrowind, but as artatm pointed out, it's just a lot easier as a developer to make them more humanoid. I can dream, though! :)

Well, I can understand why developers wouldn't want to make the beast-races more beastial. The animations would have to be changed specifically for those races, due to the unique bone structure of the lower leg (there's a word for it, but I don't remember)(edit: looked it up, digitigrade). In Oblivion, people tried to mod these bones/animations in, but largely failed because the engine has nearly everything "structural" hardwired. Only now, several years afters after Oblivion's release, are modders getting somewhere with bestial beast races.

Looks good, doesn't it? That race has been in progress for years, literally. I remember there being other mods that added digitigrade legs like werewolves mod and what-not, but I can't find them right now. Bestial beast races just weren't compatible with Oblivion's set-up, I guess -- I never play Khajiit or Argonians, but I'd still like cool-looking beasts. I'd replace Obivion's Argonians with that dragon race in a heartbeat.

I say they should look exactly like people in animal suits, just to spite each and every one of you.

I hope they look more like beasts, have customized animations but can still wear boots and helmets.

Very true.
I'm also hoping beth realised this and did something with it.
Diversity is always a good road to follow, for any game.

They said in the GI films that races will be different, that you'll know who is who (from a distance, I guess) so there is hope for race-specific animations.

I just hope Argonians match their http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/misc/artofskyrim_argonian.png.

The more bestial, the better, as long as they don't just look like the animals they're derived from. And a thicker-bodied, more powerful design would be a great improvement over previous models; Khajiit ought to be sleek, compact and powerful, not merely skinny; the Argonians would be much better with more of a classic lizardman look.

"Where's that slave? Here not long ago...."

No, but seriously, they could be more beast-like. And I'd like to see some slaves that I could release, I loved it in Morrowind. :)
