Hm? I really meant what I said; I think it looks fantastic, especially considering that this is still a WIP. For that reason, I'm not posting any criticism as well, mainly because I don't know how I could suggest anything better, and also because, again, of how early in production this is.

One thing is bugging me though, and it's the steel like texture of the armor: I think something wooden or leathery would better fit the Argonians nature, but it's up to you ;)

Slight update on the shield, just made it a bit more finished looking. Higher poly, but hopefully not too high poly, i may make the edges of the leather straps look a bit tethered. Depends what people think :)

Any good?

that is amazing! the detail is absolutly awesome. :goodjob:

Couple of suggestions--

First, I agree with Krovosos that the metallic texture looks a bit out of place-- I like the idea of wooden armor, perhaps with a dark, shiny look like it's coated in Hist resin or something :D

Second, for the cuirass, instead of making it use the vanilla body model, which will look out of place for the almost everyone who use a better beasts mod, perhaps instead you could use one of Nioliv's BB clothing meshes (or assorted others) and texture on the details, like how Plangkye made her http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7387 The other advantage of this is that it would allow you to put on more miscellaneous details-- feathers, chains, whatever you wanted to add, without making it ridiculously high-poly. Just a thought :P

I know what you mean about the texture, but i think it fits quite nicely. I personally don't think a wooden material would go well with the shape and style of the armor im modelling.

However, i am making a wooden more primitive version of the shield.

And i am planning on either making a better body version of the armor. Or make the cuirass use a different slot so that no matter what better argonian mod you are using, it should still work quite well.

And i will be making the chest straps entirely 3d, i dont like the idea of simply making a texture to look like the straps.

It may be higher poly but i really doubt it will cause any problems compared to what mods people are already using :)

hi,

i googled lizardmen armor and i cam http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj158/kageoman/LizardWarrior.jpg. Its similar to how your concept is and to be honest it looks kick ass. If your armor is based off this picture then :goodjob: its exactly how i would imagine argonian armor.

Also if your up for doing another set, i fhttp://images.mmosite.com/2moons/images/mob/lizardman_knight.jpg picture. So once one armor is done would you do another?

anyway, as to a wood version, i am thinking more of a leather version?

Keep up the good work :D

Yeah that would be cool to do something similar. To save some Q and A ill post what im planning on making

Argonian Medium Armor, which will include:
Right bracer
Right pauldron
Foot Pad type thingy
Greaves with just a thigh pad on both the left and right
A metal tower shield, and a wooden round shield
Cuirass body strap

Argonian Heavy armor, which will include:
Left right pauldron
Left and right bracer
Cuirass
Greaves
Foot pads
The same tower shield
And I was thinking of making a wooden skull like helmet

I will be making a few weapons too
A spear
A metal staff
A wooden staff
Bow and arrow with a quill that you can wear

And I also plan to make an assortment of robes, but not the typical style ones that reach the floor. A little like http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-01/art/s3-dupa.jpg. And more than likely a few head band type things. I may even make some sandals.

But for now I think ill just try and get the first armor set working :swear:

I probably wont be showing any updates for a while now so.......... Until the next time

I like the detail, that shield would be an excellent basher.

Yeah your right actually, i don't think that would work atall :P

I like the detail, that shield would be an excellent basher.

I'm thinking of making a variation of that shield with a blade on it :)
But i can't see getting it to work as a left handed weapon and a shield to be too easy :P

All the pictures ive posted have bump mapping, so you have to remember they wont look identical in game. I have been tryng to find a way of making them look as similar in game as i can, weither using special material techniques or more contrasting textures, or something else entirely. We shall see

I know I said I wouldnt be posting any updates on this, but i quite like the shape of http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/mm449/DDevilMonkey_666/Staffrender002.jpg Still looks kinda morrowindy if you know what i mean

Obviously, still needs alot of fine tuning and fancy materials adding.

Speaking of which, has anyone made any tutorials on the special mapping techniques used?

And if not, would anyone care to explain to me how they work? Or is it still all hush hush?

I like it too, and think it works for Morrowind. Kinda looks like something that one would hook an opponent's weapon with and then open their defenses for a devastating thrust attack.

I wish I could answer your question better, but I'm neither a modder nor a designer by any means.
You have to admit that it's kind of funny. Everyone was more than willing to assist you over the chest issues you were having but the moment you mention "mapping" everybody runs away.

Well, have you tried asking Westly, Alasisage (I know I spelled it wrong, sorry), or Saint-Jiub? I've been following they're work and belive that they might help you with mapping techniques.

He needs a max modeller really to explain UV mapping, as that's what he uses, only Westly has 3ds max, and I'm not sure how good he is at mapping.
For bump mapping, those 3 don't use bump mapping IIRC.

SGMonkey, over at the Skyrim forums I've started a modelling thread, I've posted up how to bump and UV map in max there, but I need to check some of it first, it's been a while since I use bump mapping.
If you need help with anything else feel free to send me a pm, or post at the modelling thread down there. :)

Um... im actually pretty experienced at bump mapping. I've been modelling for a while. I was actually talking about making morrowind meshes use similar techniques, because as everyone knows morrowind doesn't use bump maps

EDIT: Ahh i see there's a tutorial in the last post of the modelling thread, nice one Drinae, i will check it out :)

Haha, I know you're an experienced modeller, it's obvious from the screenshots (you're much better at modelling armor than me, I really svck at it. :/).
However the responses above got me a little confused, I wasn't sure if you meant UV mapping or how to get bump mapping into Morrowind, I've written a little about both down there.

Sorry bout that.
That's what i meant when I said I needed to check about bump mapping, it's been a while since I used it in Morrowind, and so I needed to check the method of getting it in game (making and applying bump maps themselves in max is very easy).

Looking forward to seeing this finished, it's looking very good. :goodjob:

Well im not too concerned with that at the minute, but i was gonna go for light, but the arm peices and the shield would more than likely be medium armor.

Will decide that when its all working how i want it (this is my first set of armor for morrowind :))

You could split the different pieces into different categories. I know it is slightly unorthodox but a few vanilla set did it (I think imperial chain mail.) It also provides incentive for those of us who specialize in multiple armor skills.

Well in that case it would probably be something like this
Right Pauldron - Medium
Right Bracer - Medium
Cuirass - Light
Greaves - Medium
Metal Shield -Medium
Wooden Shield - Light

Not put alot of thought into this part yet, but that's the easy part anyway so not fussed at this point

Imperial Chain Pauldrons being heavy is actually an error on Beth's part. They're supposed to be Md. Armor. :P

But that's not to say there's anything wrong with splitting it. I think Argies get bonuses to Medium naturally, so that'd be the most logical choice, but some light bits would be good, too. Besides, if someone wants a piece in a different armor class bad enough, it's a quick tweak with the CS. Just do what you feel is right, SGM. :)
