It's about time that the Argonians get some love. I don't like playing them too much in Morrowind simply because they don't have that many mods to make them better.

Yes, I believe It's still alive, but SGMonkey has involved himself in a lot of projects, first of all the questmod Amanita, where it will be used. So I think he is focusing too much on this right now.

The mod itself is ... gargantuan. That's understating it.
If the armor's attached to the big mod Amanita, and not by itself, it's gonna be awhile.
More than a couple days, anyways.

How come a simple set of armor get so much attention, while his very large and ambitious landmass/quetmod Amanita attract no interest at all

I haven't heard much about the landmass mod, but I've been waiting for this armour set for a while! My argonian is slowly leveling up and I'm looking forward to all the argonian based mods to be released.

I think its because 99% of people here mod morrowind instead of playing it :P

And to everyone watching this WIP, you might want to keep your eye on the Amanita WIP. This armor will only be released with that mod. And ive actually taken it in a slightly different direction. There will be normal argonian armor, and then the higher spec sorta armor, which the umm.... "elders" (for lack of a better word) will wear. It will be a smilar style, less scratches and have more robes on it.

But lately ive not been doing a great deal of modelling cos i just aint feelin it :)

The modding instead of playing comment is sooo true!

I actually have a dislike for continent style mods because, unlike armor mods and such, they are often of lower quality than the original continents or are incompatable/out-of-place with other mods i'm using. Tamriel Rebuilt and (eventually) the Skyrim Project are exceptions becuase of their exceptional quality! :goodjob:

The fact that Amantia is made by SGMonkey gives my confidence that it will also be very high quality and relatively Lore friendly. :foodndrink:

I think you should create two versions of the armor: One that has a wooden appearance, which would make it light Armor

Light depends on how light it is.
Wood tends to burn when you're hit by a fireball, or when you get too close to your campfire.
And then it rots, and gets ridden with worms.
Yeah, I can see why wood kicks ass. Why not go for a wooden sword?

and a stronger, rarer version made of metal (Like in the screen-shots) which would be either medium or heavy.

Why rarer? It doesn't have to be rare. Where's the logic behind this one.
The whole concept behind an argonian's armor (I think) is to frame it around a being who is often jumping & swimming. So there needs to be plenty of room to move in it, therefore there isn't much to the overall design. Few pieces and straps, a shield. Not much to amount to being all that heavy.

Though I wouldn't mind swinging a warhammer made of paper.

This armor is finished, the first set is anyway, and when i say finished i mean its finished as far as the modelling is concerned. But its not been exported to morrowind, cos i can't find any tutorials on how to rig [censored] for morrowind, and no-one will explain to me how to either.

Oh and this armor will only be released with Amanita

In case you use Blender here is how it goes...

Take a better bodies mesh, delete the inner neck part, join all left over parts too one single mesh, delete double vertices. Next place your armor on the body and copy the armors boneweights to your armor parts. Know that if you only partly replace a bodypart or make a seethrough armor, the bodypart has to be contained with the piece of armor, except you use left body slots, which were made to carry armor parts without replacing anything (there is a more excact description of this on Psycho Dog Studios homepage).

Once the armor is weighted and all armor parts properly named, delete the better bodies mesh. Mark single armor parts that belong together and import a better bodies skeleton only, with import options "import skeleton only, parent to selected". Check in posemode if weights were applied correct and eventually tweak weights manually. Export armor plus skeleton to .nif and check set up in nifskope.

And in case you're still using 3dsmax...

I posted links to tutorials http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1075299-wipz-argonian-only-armor/page__view__findpost__p__15650554, and they are still available online. Just remember to use the skin (and not the physique) modifier if you are not using 3dsmax 3, 4 or 5. I am using the physique modifier with 3dsmax5 but gave the skin modifier a try at one point and found it pretty easy to understand, after reading these Morrowind tutorials on the physique modifier+the official max tuts on the skin modifier.

I'm pretty sure simple skinning isn't the problem SGMonkey is talking about, he knows how to use Skin Wrap, which is great and easy for that sort of thing.

The thing he was having problems with is skinning it more complexely so only the parts that are supposed to bend, bend (so the metal rings don't while the leather still does).
Copy weights or envelopes wont work for this, so you have to fine tune the weights on the vertices using the weight tool.
