[WIPz] Argonian Only Armor

Post » Sat Aug 07, 2010 12:24 pm

Ah sorry, I dont know why I assumed you were using blender, I guess I should really get some sleep . Anyways the psychodog studios tutorial I was refering to is here:
http://www.psychodogstudios.com/betterbodies/downloads.php
>> get the tutorial called "Tutorial for making a pair of shoes" (the page is all messed up in opera for me, but works fine with firefox). It explains how to physique a pair of BB shoes, but the workflow is just the same with chest meshes, and still applies for non BB meshes.
Another tutorial you may find interesting (although I did not learn from it myself):
http://mantodea.tygirwulf.com/tutorials/physique.html
I think there's also an other tutorial written by Phyntoswap (sp?), but I dont know where to find it. Probably on his website.

As for your warhammer cuirass, it is strange, is it a simple mesh you created and exported? If so then the difference is that here you are trying to combine your work with a rigged mesh, which I'm guessing you didn't do with your warhammer armor (although i have no idea, i dont know what it looks like).

edit: if you dont have 3dsmax 3, 4 or 5, you wont be able to export physiqued meshes since only the official exporter exports the physique modifier, you'll want to use the skin modifier instead, which the niftools plugin can export.

That's excellent mate, i will have a good read of those tutorials and see what i can come up with.

And im currently using 3dsmax 2009, and as far as i know it is the official niftools plugin.

Quick update, ive given up on the cuirass for now, until im in a better state of mind. I think ive got a bit of the old modellers block or something. Everything i do is just rubbish.

But anyway, http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/mm449/DDevilMonkey_666/pauldronrender001.jpg what ive spent the last half hour making. Just the general idea for the arm piece, only using place holder texture, will properly texture it when im happy with the model. (which I am not in the slightest)

Wow man, this looks great. I love the fact that you make the armour so, so, old? So "Hand-made"? I don't really know the words. I just like how it looks like it was chiseled by the hands of an Argonian. I also love how the armour fits the style of the Argonian. I can just see this armour on hundreds of Argonians as they go into war. Keep up the tremendously great work. I will definitely download.

Well im surprised, i didnt think anyone was interested

And that screen i just posted is nowhere near as detailed as it will be when its finnished. Ive just not been able to get any thing modelled that i like. And the cuirass has annoyed me quite alot so that's put a bit of a downer on things

Yeah they're probably just saying it looks good cause... well... it really does look good. And if it's current state looks good (and it does), and you have something better that you're grinding your teeth to make, then I can't wait to see it.

Don't stress so much. You have a lot of support for this project and interest. It's been two and a half days and you're already on page 5. You even got the legendary Westly into it back on page 2!

Whatever the problem turns out to be for the chest, you'll figure it out. Then one day on another project you'll run into the same thing and look back to say:
"Gee, this is familiar, oh yeah! Dadadadadadada.... Boom! Nailed it! I rule you"

And don't worrie, when i get the armor to look how i want it i think people will be pretty impressed.

None of these fancy colours and all that jazz. Its gonna look rugged :)

Well, I say it looks great because it looks pretty damned good now, but I can see how amazing it could look, which evens out to great I guess. *chuckle*

This is shapping up really nice, I love the almost gladiator look to the pieces; it looks like realistic functional armor for a race that probably might conduct much of its fighting underwater. If I might suggest something how about having the cuirass protect the neck region with some sort of gourge? I say this becasue if you watch lizards fighting underwater like iguanas they ram each other down with their chests and then they go for the neck...might be also the way the argonians fight?

A while back I had the same problem you're having, and if I remember correctly, I was able to fix it using NifSkope. If you'd like, I can take a look at your mesh and try to get it fixed.

Also, looking at that picture you posted earlier, it would seem the pivot was off. Make sure it's position is at 0,0,0 and rotation is 0,0,0 or else it will be screwed up in-game.

yes. well not so much a retexture but an entirely new race. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=556. Also alternate colours: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2820. And finally better tails: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8013

To SGMonkey: Great idea, grea project, great concept, great work. Argonians are my favorite vannilla race. The only problem i had with them is that there was not alot to do with them and there wasnt alot of mods either. The fact they cant wear boots or helms was also a shame. Then the firstguard armor came along and i was happy for a while. But since then nothing else has been done *sniff*

just to say - you've made my day :)

love the shield and bracer btw

Ditto, of my favorite races. The one that Bahamut did has changed my outlook of Argonians. Look in his prior screenshots ;) . It is one I need to get a hold of..

The armor is looking fantastic, SGMonkey. Looking forward to complete set.

Well, when you're done with the Armor, how is it going to be put in game? Traders? Loot-lists? On a Special NPC?

Slight update on the shield, just made it a bit more finished looking. Higher poly, but hopefully not too high poly, i may make the edges of the leather straps look a bit tethered. Depends what people think :)
