I would say BGS are damned if they do and damned if they don't
If they do make them more like Morrowind Argonians with beast legs, there'll still be people crying foul about how it puts their race at a disadvantage against other races.
Personally, I prefer the humanoid Argonians.
That would only happen if they actually suffered a disadvantage compared to other races. The main problem with them in Morrowind was that they couldn't wear boots and full helms, and modders were able to create special boots they could wear, there's no reason Bethesda can't do that as well, and the helmet issue was rendered irrelevant in Oblivion by letting them wear the few full helmets the game had, even though the heads were pretty close to Morrowind, with it being the feet that changed in the game. Of course, I'm sure some people would still complain about the design, and that's fine, no matter what Bethesda does, there's probably going to be someone, somewhere, who feels they should have done differently, and you certainly don't need to approve of Bethesda's first choice. I just wanted to put out that if one's complaints with Morrowind's approach is about the boots and helmets, there's a way to fix it, without going down Oblivion's humans in animal costumes approach.
Upon further inspection, I dont like the Morrowind beasts lol. Those legs are like... just... exaggerated? And that walking animation... :cryvaultboy: Its like they crapped themselves. I love that argonian picture tho, i really hope that makes it into the final game.
The problem here is that the animations for them in Morrowind weren't very well done, really, none of the character animations were good in Morrowind, but for some players, the Argonian and Khajiit animations seemed to stand out, perhaps because them being distinctly different from normal human movement called attention to them. The animations used by other races were stiff, but were less memorable in their badness.
Though actually, looking at the picture, I get the impression of a figure somewhere in between Morrowind and Oblivion in terms of the humanness of Argonians, the Argonian strikes me as a little more animal-like than Oblivion's Argonians, but still more human-looking than Morrowind's, and it does look like they would be able to wear boots from the image, so hopefully, this means that, while their posture will still be human like, they're models won't just be retextured human models with different heads and tails attached. But of course, since this is only concept art the actual game might be different, and that's a little worrysome since usually, the way one expects it to go is that the concept art shows something really interesting, but it gets toned down a bit in the game because designing it like the concept art shows is too difficult, that's how I'd usually expect it to go, still, it's only concept art, I won't make a final judgment on the matter until I actually see how they look in the game.
Granted, I could live with how they were in Oblivion, they were certainly better than those hideous abominations in Arena. But I'd still prefer giving them a unique animation, at the very least, though, they need to have claws. It's specifically noted in the description of Khajiit that many of them forego weapons in favor of their own claws, you can't make a race known to do that and then not give them claws at all, and expect no one to mind.
I remember reading something about this in the past and someone explained at length why twisted feline-like legs would actually be very much a detriment to a bipedal creature because they aren't made for walking on with two legs. It's like walking on your tip toes which is bad enough in high heels and is probably much worse without them. Cats are essentially walking on their tip toes with their hind legs. It isn't a backwards knee part way up the leg but instead it's their heel.
I know how real cat legs are structured, and you know what? I don't care if such a structure would be practical for a bipedal lifeform or not. I don't want a realistic simulation of what cat men or lizard men might look like in real life, if they actually existed in real life. What I want is a fantasy race that is interesting and is distinct from the other races in the setting, and I happen to feel that Morrowind's approach to Khajiit and Argonians is better for that. I hardly think that giving a fictional race a leg structure that would be impractical, in real life, is too unrealistic for a game where I can play a dual wielding lizard man who kills dragons by shouting at them.
but i never play as a beast race so i dont really care how the leg turn out.
That logic makes absolutely no sense, whether you play as them or not, you're still going to be looking at them, so you should still be concerned with whether they look like. By this seem logic, I could see I don't care if Bethesda turns Bosmer into pink polka-dotted elephants, because I never play as them.
