Argonians being "called back"

Post » Mon Feb 07, 2011 5:25 pm

Just another curiosity I had,

In Oblivion you can hear citizens talking about Argonians being called back to the black marsh, what's that all about?

I remember something about a hyst tree? (I probably spelled it wrong)

Any information would be great.

There isn't much information on it that I know of.

The Hist want their children back home, and the foreigners are leaving the place. It's never explained why, though.

The Hist are a "race" of (presumably) sapient trees that the Argonians "worship". Its sap is used in naming ceremonies, and most likely some other rituals in their culture.

(And before you say "but the Hist are drug trees that [censored] hallucinogens", the sick, perverted Hist tree in the Fighters' Guild questline is not a good indication of what the Hist in general are. Modreyn Oreyn even says that particular tree might have been tainted by the relocation into Cyrodiil, if you've done the questline as an Argonian).

It refers to the Hist's response to the Crisis, and is one of Kurt's coolest ideas of the last year or so.

I added the "Giant Feathered Flu Tyrants" bit, which, like *of course*... but you'll see.
Daedra -2, Argonians +278. [censored] off, Dagon, don't ever mess with the Trees.

Gasp! Are you implying there was some kind of conflict with the Daedra in which the Hist did something cool?
Maybe you write some kind of story, maybe i read it?

Maybe someone explains the "Giant Feathered Flu Tyrant" bit?

Nothing makes giggle delightfully like uncivilized indigenous species completely dishing the hordes of evil. I call it an Ewok Altercation.

Awesome.

Sounds interesting. Could they be giving us these teasers saying TES5 may take place in the Black Marsh?

Or are they just making things more immersive?

Heh, well it could be said what happened in BM wasn't just the hist and argonians. Remeber, disease a plenty, flesh eating flies up the butt, and all other sorts of untamed goodies :D

I remember I wrote a little joke conversation of Mythic Dawn members in Black Marsh during the crisis.
