I was just looking at UESP to read up on TES lore when I searched for Argonian I read this...

"Argonian change gender; the time spent as either a male or female is known as a life-phase."

Wait... what!

Is this true?

Well there are species of Amphibians and retiles that can change gender (that's how Jurassic Park went to hell :hubbahubba: ) so I guess it makes sense :shrug:

Yes. Argonians have many fish-like characteristics...there are some fish, such as the Clownfish, that can change their gender...I guess this is where Bethesda got the idea for Argonians.

You can ask in the lore forum but frankly since it's a conclusion drawn from the wording of the race description in the Morrowind user manual I think it's [censored], especially when we've seen Argonians with gender-specific names before and it has never been mentioned in any in-game lore or alluded to by any NPCs, including Argonian ones.

UESP is not really all that reliable for lore.

Lots of the lore changes around over time. This idea comes from the in-game description for Morrowind, which said "The female life-phase is highly intelligent, and gifted in the magical arts. The more aggressive male phase has the traits of the hunter: stealth, speed, and agility." That is about the extent of the concept I think.

Im pretty sure that it has something to do with how much hist sap they lick, according to lore. Argonians are actually also a little bit of a plant.

Like some of you said, anyone can edit a Wiki so it may just be a missunderstanding from a text.
