Do Argonians lay eggs?

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:44 pm

If they did, they could have a quest in Skyrim where some crazy hunter or something has stolen some Argonian's eggs and you have to go and get them back (or keep them for yourself and sell them later on - multiple quest paths are sweet  ).

In one of the screenshots it looks as though there is a dragon egg. By the time I look it up, I'm sure someone will post a link so we'll just wait...

Please explain that word, as I am too lazy to ask the internet.

Ovoviviparity is a mode of reproduction in animals in which embryos develop inside eggs that are retained within the mother's body until they are ready to hatch. Ovoviviparous animals are similar to viviparous species in that there is internal fertilization and the young are born live, but differ in that there is no placental connection and the unborn young are nourished by egg yolk; the mother's body does provide gas exchange (respiration), but that is largely necessary for oviparous animals as well.

Its where the animal lays eggs, but they are contained within the mother's body until they hatch. So, the they come out of the mother alive.

I do not believe that they do, but don't quote me on that....

This is a fantasy game afterall, so Argonians do as they please. They don't want to adhere to our earthly ways.

Argonians are lizard-people with a symbiotic connection to alien trees from another dimension.

They really aren't easy to fit into our biological conventions.

well it could go eather way realy. there are a number of reptilian species that give birth to live young. mostly snake species though. but i think i read somewere that baby Argonians feed on the sap from the Hist (sentient trees from Black-Marsh.) maybe the nurse as well, though its hard to tell since without mods there is no way to tell if argonians have nipbles.

could be an intresting thing to try and find out. maybe we will in Skyrim since there is marrage and maybe the ability to have children.

Interesting since Argonian children were referred to as hatchlings before...which would suggest they come from eggs. Who knows though, except Bethesda who writes it.

Argonians are ovoviviparous. They do have eggs, they just do not 'lay' them. Argonian eggs stay internal, and hatch on the inside of the mother.

Confermed by important people that are related to TES.

There is still an egg, it just does not hatch outside the body. That term still holds true.

However, it is confirmed:

Argonians are ovoviviparous. [Wow. I was SURE I'd never have to use that word again.] They don't lay eggs like reptiles.

Interesting, ok then that's a fair compromise then. Does that mean no human/Argonian cross-breeding lol, I hope to see at least one Argonian child though it would be cool to see.
