Is Arkane studios taking little part (if any) on Skyrim comb

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:50 pm

Hello everyone! First of all, i gotta say that my english is not the best in the world. However, i'll do my best to explain my ideas.

Like everyone i couldn't be more exited about Skyrim, and all the new stuff. Like combat and finishing moves. Thinking about that, i remembered that Zenimax bought (i think) Arkane Studios a few months ago.
If you don't know, those guys are the ones from Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, amazing first ARPG i might add.

Anyway. When i played Dark messiah, i was always thinking "If only Oblivion had this combat system...". But know Bethedsa owns Arkane so....

Do you think Skyrim combat system will be influenced by Dark Messiah?
Do you think Arkane is helping Bethedsa with the combat system?
Do you think Todd Howard should be king, and Skyrim should be released tomorrow? n_n

Regards!

This has already been suggested, and no I don't think so. Bethesda wouldn't let anyone else get their grubby little hand's on their brainchild.

I recall hearing from their twitter account that they had their own project to work on. This doesn't mean that they aren't lending suggestions. The combat is fairly well influenced by DM, as shown by the Ice-troll screeny, look at the spell hand.

I remember in January, there was a dude fully convinced that Arkane was doing all the combat, when we proved him wrong, he blamed it on us saying we were stupid for believing Arkane was doing the combat...

Anywho. I think BGS and Arkane may share ideas and use Arkane as inspiration for combat but I don't think Arkane is actually part of the development team.

I am pretty sure that Bethesda is doing most of the game themselves. If I remember right, in Todd's podcast with game informer he told us that Bethesda was going to work on it mostly because the elder scrolls is near and dear to them, or something like that. Don't take my word for it, but I think that might be right.

Edit" took they out before the second Bethesda... Stupid mistake...

Arkane may not be (officially) working on Skyrim, but that does not mean that Bethesda isn't using some of Arkane's resources. I'm sure the latter didn't buy the former just so they could put them in a back room for safe keeping. Whether it be actual game data or former Arkane employees, they have things that Bethesda can use. And, if the collective opinions of those who have played Dark Messiah are to be believed, Bethesda would be daft to not take even the slightest cue from a group that's produced quality combat gameplay.

Im sure they took some influence from them, I couldn't count the number of suggestions that they get some inspiration from Dark Messiah.
As for actually working on it, doubt it. Zenimax might own the companies, but I don't think its for collaboration, its for funding, security, and publishing.

Maybe they are slowly buying out the competition and forming a monopoly?

THEY ARE USING BIOSHOCK FOR THE MAGIC, AND I KNOW ONE THING, now the hack and slash thing is going to be ALOOOT slower than ever, see the trailer guys, the last hit the warrior almost gave to the dragon, after he flyed away(to die) that last hit was probaly the in-game hit, and more, that shield bashing the dragon did in dovahkin, PROBALY is in-game as well, remenber that the animations in skyrim are going to be amazing, so i have no doubt they can do that, thasts the new kick back animation, like the one in oblivion, but the animations are realistic instead, thats all....

Pete was asked this on twitter and he said Arkane has been working full time on their own project and has had no involvement with Skyrim at all.

You know, Arkane Studios is an amazing developer. They've done more than Dark Messiah.

Like ARX FATALIS! (brilliant game)

Well you will be able to see that when they announce the game they're working on.

As I recall Zenimax said that Arkane is going to be making a game that is similar to their past ones.

The melee combat, from what I've heard, seems to be more based on Assassin's Creed or Arkham Asylum than DM.

It really seems like Bethesda's got a clear handle on everything that's been wrong with every previous TES game and is effectively fixing it all. This game is gonna be awesome, am i rite? :liplick:
