Arkham, Dunwich, King's Port, Innsmouth...

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:08 pm

Ok, I seem to recall some scenic spots around New England that it would be... interesting to visit, although one might have to wait for mods.

Or maybe not. It's not too far a leap from Mirelurks to Deep Ones, so I would be surprised if Innsmouth or something close to it was NOT in the game.

a few people have mentioned Salem isn't far from Boston (not good with the geography myself), and there's usually a nod to Lovecraft in their games, so it wouldn't surprise me if there was some reference to the dark arts as a location or quest.

Imagine a Mirelurk Emperor...you sail out to sea and freaking Cthulhu pops out of the water.

Concerning Dunwich, in Lovecrafts story there were 2 of those books seen in FO3 so may see another one.

innsmouth is a curious town where the people wear gold and are quite hard to drown

maybe i just read too far into any creepy elements but lovecraft is everywhere in games, and i really love that! i really hope there is some good subtle references, things that really freak you out about 10 minutes later when you are looking through the fridge for a snack

I would love for Bethesda to tap some more obscure piece of Lovecraft fiction. Give me a quest based around Pickman's model, Rats in the walls, or The case of Charles Dexter Ward anytime. Really, I would even be happy with Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and his Familly

Given the Institute and the existence of Synths...The Case of Charles Dexter Ward is a very real possibility.

The beauty is that since they are all fictional towns, they can be stuck wherever. Maybe I am getting wildly optimistic about the area covered by the map, but the sort of agreed location for Arkham, Kingsport, and Innsmouth is in the area north of Salem, towards the New Hampshire border. Dunwich is placed way out in the NW corner of the state. So unless the map area is truly gargantuan (the area from the south end-ish of the greater Boston area, to around the NH border, and including Rockport to the east and Lowell to the west is around 50,000 sq km), I don't see their traditional locations making it into the game. But since they are fictional, some licence might surely be allowed...

Considering Mr Lovecrafts home is a short distance south of BoSton I would love to see a Lovecraftian themed DLC set in Providence.

I'm pretty sure theirs going to be a Lovecraft reference or two since they do love putting one or a couple of them in their games. Especially with Boston Massachusetts being so close to Lovecraft's hometown of Providence Rhode Island.

I hope we have some outlandish DLC set in at least one of these locations. Lovecraft was no stranger to FO3, either.
