Arming settlers in Fallout 4

Ok. I already know HOW to arm them--through dialogue--but when giving them new weapons do I give them ammo as wel, if so how much? I think I heard, or read somewhere you can give them a single bullet and theyd have infinite ammo?

Yes that is correct for most weapons, give a settler one bullet and they will have infinite ammo for it.



There are a few weapons (missile launchers and fatman I think) which do use up ammo but then it's porbably not wise to arm settlers with them in the first place.

Or you could give them all Super Sledges and Ballistic weave... turns any settlement attack into a huge cluster f * * * around the attacker... mine took down a couple deathclaws the other day while I was building and I didn't even realize until after lol

Danse tried to share his life story with me while 4 muties attacked, 1 was a suicider and 1 had a launcher. My settlers fought them off fine and our conversation was never interrupted.


My guard captain with a minigun if very effective.

Actually I`ve tried almost all weapons available...



and I would say best weapon to give settlers is High Speed Shredding minigun.



When they use this weapon... they don`t bother going into cover but only become high DPS non-killable zombie...



Ammo? 2-3 no more. lol



I believe they use everything unlimited except for mini-nuke and missile.

I find giving one or two miniguns is usually enough. The rest I just give the best weapon I happen to have on me, although my high level characters have a box at each settlement that I fill with guns and armor everytime I pass through. I don't like them all being the same, seems to organized.

i sometimes try out new weapon mods from nexus...



take the gatling rifle from there, mod it to 12G and add explosive legendary.


give it to a settler, spawn an attack and BACK OFF!



then reload your save, uninstall the mod and laugh at the nice experiance ;)


or keep the mod and get used to repairing the whole place afterwards *g*

Though they have a uniform so I can tell farmers from scavengers, weapons I give them a mix just for variety.

Im at the moment updating all the settlers with the best upgraded plasma rifles, laser rifles, combat rifles and assault rifles.

I gave all my settlers top of the line combat rifles wit .308 ammo and polymer combat armor. No ballisti weave for me, Im playing XOne version. lol Although using console commands sounds really fun but my computer cant handle the game.



Anyone ever try arming all their settlers with the Fatman? lol I think itd be funny to sit back and watch them scurry about only to blow themselves up. hahaha

they don't run out of stimpacks or grenades.


Armed settlers loot a lot of stuff from attackers too. Be sure to check on them. You'll be surprised.

They do run out of stimpacks I believe. And they loot only weapons which are better then one they are using. There must be ammo for looted weapon on the body or in their inventory as well, otherwise they won't touch it. It seems in terms of value of the weapon, AI considers damage per second as a decisive attribute.

Its nice they do loot but beware they don't loot by default they have to have had their default weapon changed as every time I have armed a settler (even one that has been default for some time) they onyl have pipe weapons.

I wish they would just arm themselves by default. In the beginning I threw a pile of gear and weapons on the street hoping they would just pick up improvements. but they didn't. It would be soooooo much easier than arming and clothing each one individually.

I don't give any settler grenades, because their aim not good. Miniguns and gatling lasers + 1 ammo each sounds perfect. Thanks for info.

Yes, I can confirm. I give some of my settlers a minigun and one 5mm bullet.



They always dominate the kills when there's an attack. lol
