Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:08 pm

iv been hearing that only 556 armor points or something like that are the only ones that work, anything after that (like my daedric doing over 800) is useless..

My armor rating is near 1600 and I CAN tell the difference in my tanking abilities. Who ever told you that info is full of it.

Yes, 567 = 80% damage reduction = max. Any more armor is useless.

I will state though that I base this on the UESP which I've found is accurate most of the time.

even upgrading the armor i discribed to legendary, at 100 smithing with smithing boosting potions and apparel,, would only output maybe.. 200 - 300 armor points, without shield, vs daedric (wich i have) thats outputting 800 points..

but only 556 or so points actually matter. after that it doesnt have any effect.

Here you can read about it. This site has the formula for armor and discusses the armor cap.

Never once (played oblivion over 300 hours) had UESP lie. I agree :D

:P Well it's not a complete waste. Consider this, if you want to you could do the same with lower ranked armor. Perhaps you don't like dragon armor that much and would rather use Ebony or even Orcish armor ? Heck perhaps 567 can even be reached with Dwemer armor.

If you can boost your smithing so much you can choose nearly any armor based simply on aesthetics but not stats yet have the full armor cap :D

Well looking at E3 footage of them playing their little "Dovahkiin" it seems like it's just iron armor really. I could be wrong though but I don't think so.

is there anything that reduces armor or can bypass a percentage of the armor? if there is, that would be a reason to surpass the cap, if not, shrug

It's a good thing if you think about it. The 80% damage reduction cap was in Oblivion too, it's not unreasonable. Bethesda just decided you can't be Superman. (Unless you have 0 magicka restoration and cast heal none stop.)

The main benefit is that for the first time, you have genuine choice in what armour you want. With max Smithing and the right Alchemy perks, you can walk around in Steel armour and still hit 80%. You can seriously shop around and decide what looks good on you, rather than what is the most powerful gear. I find Ebony kick ass myself.

hmm.. you'de think since the armor is showcased on all the wallpapers and trailers, there would be some acknowledgment or significance to that armor. could be some quest reated armor and be called armor of dragonborn or something... either way, it would have increased my immersion to the game ten fold!

Are you talking about the background of the forum? It's just Iron armor, we've seen it since forever. There is enchanted versions of it, but I have yet to see some exclusive awesome pieces of it.

Also, the armor cap is there to stop you from being 100% immune to all melee. It's more of a balance thing. Sure the balance is kind of unneeded if you are already doing well enough to have full daedric but as a counter point if you are doing that well then the little they still hurt you shouldn't matter.

Bethesda reduced the amount of spells in the game by quite a lot in Skyrim not to mention armor can no longer break in combat. So no, you armor is pretty much immortal and you don't have to worry if you have 567 armor. However blocking does reduce damage but by different means than armor, it doesn't add a flat % to the damage reduced by armor in the same sense I think.

Its simple math, you think math is full of it? Is what what you tell your teachers in school that their full of it?

I haven't had an armor rating under 1000 in weeks and my health level has gone up dramatically since. That's plenty to form a sort of imaginary belief that you are taking more damage.

Calm your [censored], kiddo. :meh:
