armor pieces

Post » Sat Apr 03, 2010 10:43 pm

I'm unsure if this has already been addressed but here we go
I like to assume Bethesda has learned from their experience making fallout 3 and so the one thing that I find worrying me the most is the armor.

as most of you probably remember; in oblivion, you had boots, leggings, torso piece, gloves and helmet. That's 5 in total

Fallout 3 took a different direction and simplifying it to only 2 pieces, helmet, and suit.

now what worries me is the idea that skyrim will only have 2 pieces, or maybe even just one

so, I was wondering which you'd prefer, 2 pieces or 5 pieces , maybe more? possibly less? D=

Fallout 3 had this system because Fallout 1 and 2 had the same system.

They are both different games, TES will never have 1 single piece of armor and Fallout 3 will never have pieces like separate boots, and gloves, shirts and pants.

It can't have less than Oblivion had, hopefully it will use the same system in Morrowind which was really awesome and allowed us to make some pretty neat sets of armor.

With the fear of having the "you just want Morrowind 2.0 :(" crowd on my tail; I'd like to how it was in morrowind, with seperate shoulder and glove slots for each side and really. I'm however more or less expecting it to be oblivion'ish. I wouldn't worry bout the fallout thing though, falliut games never had a lot of armor slots as far as I remember.

I want meh Pauldrons!

Seriously I want it like Morrowind, maybe a bit more so.

3 layers - Clothes, Armor, Robes.
Clothes Sections - Left Glove, Right Glove, Shirt, Pants, Mask/Bandana
Armor sections - Left/Right Gauntlet, Left/Right Boot, Left/Right Pauldron, Chest Piece, Greaves, Helm
Robes - Robes, Hat/Hood (Only if you don't have a Helm equipped.

How enchanting would work: Either significantly lower how much enchanting items give you in bonuses (total of up to 15 items on at once), or make so you can't enchant armor so you can't have like 100% chameleon, 100 Absorb Magicka, and 100 Reflect Damage.

Fallout 3's armour system is remeniscent of the original fallout armour system, which used only one piece of armour per set, its just the way fallout is, i doubt they will do the same for skyrim.
I hope they re-implement Morrowinds armour system for skyrim, that offered much more customisability then the oblivion system.

Would you mind explaining this system? :) Haven't played daggerfall enough to know how this system works.

that seems like a bit much, then again I'm the kind of person that thought morrowind wasn't that great and never understood why it's so loved

Yes Morrowinds style was the best, being almost fully armored every time you wore a cuirass wasn't too great for beast races or thieves, I liked it when thieves mostly wore just boots and Netch Leather. They should also make robes/capes wearable on top, since conserving heat should be a priority in Skyrim.

which is?

1 helmet slot
1 boot/shoe slot
1 shield slot
2 pauldron slots (left and right)
1 glove/gaunlet slot
1 shirt slots
1 cuirass slot
1 greaves slot
1 pants slot
2 cloak slots (I'd prefer just one, though)
2 weapon slots (can have a weapon in your left hand, your right hand, or both)
2 amulet slots
2 bracelet slots
2 ring slots
2 bracer slots
2 mark slots
2 crystal slots

You can also change how certain items of clothing are worn. For example, you can wear a cloak with the hood up or down as well as with it slanted behind one shoulder, both, or just covering both shoulders.

It's too bad clipping issues would likely make it seem sloppy, especially so if sheathed weapons, arrow holsters, rings, and amulets appeared on a character as in Oblivion.

I think the more slots the better, and more customizable and unique your character is, also if an RPG like this has 1 or 2 slots it would greatly lower it's actual RPG value.

The idea of adding more items to actually equip/wear such as cloaks, and trinkets would make it a lot better.
The cloak idea is actually really nice, having a long flowing cape with a hood up over metal armour and a full face helmet would be completely amazing, or, light armour with a hooded cloak for a character sneaking through the shadows. I personally disliked how when I wore hoods with my metal armour there was no cape. Just a hood. How do you get a hood with no cape?

actually, adding a cape/ cloak slot would make a lot of sense
I seem to remember that no one was without a cloak in the lord of the rings, they seem to be an adventurer's best friend

With that blacksmith, "The Missing Pauldron" in Shivering Isles, I've got a feeling Beth knows we want our pauldrons back.

The more armour the better... though maybe smaller items like gloves/pauldrons etc shouldn't be able to be enchanted as effectively as a cuirass. I mean, keeping enchantments equal is a sure-fire way to break the game.

I dunno, I think I'd go for a system somewhat between Morrowind and Oblivion. Helmet, Cuirass, Boots, Greaves, 2 Pauldrons, Gauntlets/Bracers as one slot, Shirt, Pants or Skirt but not both, 2 rings, Amulet, and cloak or cape, but no robe. Then I'd say if your cloak has a hood you can wear it over your helmet, but if you have a hood separately it takes the place of the helmet, but can be worn with a mask of some sort. But really, I'd settle for Oblivion's system if they bring back medium armor and unarmored, especially unarmored.

I liked Morrowind system but I would take it to the extreme. so you had left and right everything but you still only had one pair of boots and same with greaves. I would like to see Skyrim have as much as Morrowind but with duplicate boots and greaves. Also, bring back pauldrons, I always liked pauldrons the most cause I would wear two different kinds to make me look more barbaric. :celebration:

I WANT MORROWIND'S STYLE BACK!!! :flame:

i hated oblivion's armor and clothing styles so much that i didnt even bother customizing my characters mostly... i just left them in their starting clothes, unless i joined a faction that threw clothes/armor at you to wear.

fallout's was fine because that was fallout, not the elder scrolls, fallout wasnt known for great customization, was it? not like TES, anyway...

we're supposed to be able to play ANY character we can imagine... well i imagine my character wearing one pauldron, one gauntlet, several pieces of clothing picked from different outfits that make him look really badass, and maybe even a robe thrown over that with a hood if im travelling in the rain or something!

but no... i couldnt do that in oblivion, i had to wear hard, cold steel over my BARE FLESH, or throw on a robe and be completely naked underneath... it was stupid! :banghead:

i really hope they'll go back to morrowind's way of armor and clothes... maybe even take it a step further and SEPERATE THE BOOTS!

that would be really TRULY awesome, to have a character with a different piece of armor on each limb...

helmet: elven
cuirass: steel
right pauldron: ebony
right gauntlet: daedric
left pauldron: imperial
left gauntlet: iron
greaves: orcish
left boot: mithril
right boot: glass

come on, you have to admit it'd be cool to have tons of different materials for weapons and armor [full sets] and mix and match them however we want again...

thats one of the biggest parts of TES... customizing our characters!

when it came to oblivion, only the PC users could customize them... console users had absolutely nothing to play with...

i'd love to be playing on the PC, but... well, unless someone has a computer laying around with 50GB RAM and 100GHz processor and godlike everything else, that they dont mind giving to me... im not gonna be able to play these games on a computer.

Edit:
I liked Morrowind system but I would take it to the extreme. so you had left and right everything but you still only had one pair of boots and same with greaves.

um... how would that be taking morrowind's way to the extreme? thats EXACTLY what morrowind had... left and right of everything, but greaves and boots were single items...
