Armor?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:05 am

Is it going to be like Oblivion's armor settings where you can only pick body, boots, legs, helmet, and hands? Or is it going to be like morrowind's where you can pick the shoulders, body, legs, helmet, boots, and hands?

Or is it going to be totally different?

Also, Is the rating going to be the same as Oblivion's or Morrowind's?

It's probably going to be more like oblivion's except they may add shoulder armor as well.

I hope they add shoulder armor. Never knew why they took it out and made it with body.

well, I'm guessing they're gonna go with oblivion's style (though it burns my insides) and they [game informer] never said anything about skills yet.

I'm hoping for a cross between oblivion and morrowind at the very least. With a huge variety of armor to make the character you see in your mind.

They took it out because it was an enchanting exploit and if they had left it in and just said you couldn't enchant them well you can just imagine the sht storm from that so they are damned either way. Might as well go the route that equals less development time.

That's a silly idea too. I don't mind if they keep the same number of pieces as Oblivion, as long as you can wear clothes under/over them.

well then you'd have the same problem with enchanting exploitation. I say add layered clothing and pauldrons and let gamers play their own way. If they wanna cheat the game, let them.

Anyways, I hope for the same number of options as Morrowind, I want my bare-chested kilt-wearing nord with an armored sword-arm and an unarmored spell-arm.

I think they will do it like morrowind (not the actual armor slots) but the texture packs and the addons for the armor

No. NO. NO!

People who want a long lasting balanced game get the short end of the stick. The game MUST be balanced. Period.

How do they get the short end of the stick? If you get a game with a difficulty of 9/10 and player "A" introduces concepts that lower it to a 5, then what's keeping player "B" from playing the game the way it was originally intended?

Because when they removed the extra armor slots that were in Morrowind, they were fixing the broken enchanting on them. It was a quick fix to an enchanting imbalance. Chances are they added individual pauldrons back into the game but I'm not sure if they will add back in the other slots. If they do and they aren't enchantable, I'll be fine with it but if the extra layers are enchantable, it would be better if they just weren't added back in.

Because purposely making a game that is imbalanced is bad game development and BGS isn't going to ruin their reputation just to let the minority be op because they don't want to play the game it is meant to be played.

After looking at some screenshots, it appears to me that it'll work like in Oblivion and Fallout 3, Body armor including boots, gloves, shoulders etc. and helmets, so two types. One armor set for your body, and optional helmets (because why would I hide the face I spent an hours making under a tin can? :P ). I'm hoping I'm wrong and it works like it did in Morrowind, but I doubt it.

I could not possibly disagree more. This is a single player game, how the hell does imbalance matter in any way? Don't want to be overpowered? Then don't enchant all your armor, it's as simple as that. Show some reastraint and the problem goes away, while people who like being overpowered can be, everybody wins.

Bring back left/right pauldrons and gloves.

All they have to do is limit the amount of enchantments a particular item can hold.

Things like helmets and cuirasses can hold a lot. Pauldrons and gloves, very little.

Everyone is happy and balance is saved.

You’re welcome.

What does it matter if it's balanced or not? There's no multiplayer that can be affected, why not let everyone be happy and let the people who crave balance excersise some self control? It'll be good for them, that's the only way everybody actually wins.

And how is the "full chameleon armor" a fix of morrowind's problem? getting enough sigil stones in oblivion to enchant a set of armor to chameleon me >100% was the simplest way to beat the game?

Doesn’t matter too me, but people complain about it so…BAM!

Problem solved.

People complain about everything, that's an unsolvable problem. You can't please everyone, but the approach I suggested is the closest you can get, the people who can't restrain themselves and still cry at their self-caused imbalance will need to be ignored, which isn't really difficult.

We have no official word on how it will work. However, I would like to point out that the Dunmer on page 50 of the Game Informer article is only wearing one pauldron. The Nord with the claymore on his back on page 52 (bottom left) is also only wearing one pauldron. So, I'd say it's "confirmed" that pauldons are separate from your cuirass.

I hope it's set up like morrowind. It's really funny and a bit weird that if there is some sort of exploit, people who think it's a negative use it. I can imagine them sitting there, enchanting all their gear, shaking their heads and complaining as they enchant. It's bizarre. You don't have to use it. Enchant with something other than health regeneration. Lots of options. If not, throw in with the guy who posted about weaker enchanting on items other than weapons, head pieces, and chest.
